'death' waiver for children"
And if they refuse to send their kids, the parents get
locked up for allowing truancy.
This is going to get VERY ugly. Can you say "entrapment"?
I'm pretty sure people in Missouri can home-school if they want to.
This would seem to give them a very strong incentive to do so.
Which is something other factions of the Left desperately want to avoid.
A resurgence of home-schooling-- where parents teach their kids instead
of letting leftists indoctrinate them-- will undo years of careful
preparation and maneuvering in the war they're waging for control of the
American culture.
This June, pandemic conditions permitting, Harvard University
will host a conference-- not open to the public-- to discuss the
purported dangers of homeschooling and strategies for legal
reform. The co-organizer, Harvard law professor Elizabeth
Bartholet, believes that homeschooling should be banned, as it
is "a realm of near-absolute parental power, inconsistent with
a proper understanding of the human rights of children."
Bartholet laments how the Constitution "with its negative
rights structure is an anomaly, outdated and inadequate by the
standards of the rest of the world."
The conference has caused a stir, owing to a profile of
Bartholet in Harvard magazine, accompanied by a cartoon of a
forlorn-looking girl behind the barred windows of a house made
out of books titled, "Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Bible".

schooling
You're obviously meant to take from that cartoon that 'bible' is a bad
thing for kids to be learning in school, but the conference organizers
aren't too keen on the 'reading, writing, arithmetic' part, either.
They'd much prefer your kids be learning in school how to socially
organize and smash the prevailing system, the charms of collectivism,
and how to question their birth gender. Teaching them things like how to
read or do a quadratic equation is a waste of time better spent on
learning the basic rules for radicals.
Harvard claims, based on a Bartholet law review article, that
as many as 90% of homeschoolers are "driven by conservative
Christian beliefs, and seek to remove their children from
mainstream culture."
Yes, heaven forfend people be allowed to raise their kids according to
their own beliefs. No, they have to be subsumed into the 'mainstream
culture', defined as the culture leftist teachers and professors wish to
impose upon their captive audiences in state-run schools.
These people believe the state owns your children from the moment of
birth and the only reason you get to keep them is because they
magnanimously grant you permission to; keeping and raising your own kids
is a privilege that can be revoked at any time:
James Dwyer, co-organizer of the event, has declared that "the
reason parent-child relationships exist is that the state
confers legal parenthood. It's the state that's empowering
parents to do anything with children. To take them home, to
have custody, to make any kind of decision about that."
