A mere 14,886 BPS here; 61% of folks have purer souls that I.

It's actually a marketing ploy for some UK band I've never heard of, but
it's cool anyway.

Actually, don't you all know that E-Bay has determined that humans don't
have souls? Yes, one of the great philosophical questions of all time has
been answered!

Apparently some schlob put his soul up on EBay, and EBay cancelled the
auction as they had, "reasonable grounds to believe the seller could not
produce the item in question"... :)

Yes, All Hail Ebay, Masters of the Mysteries.

People here score a lot higher than on another group I read. But I
still haven't seen anyone who beat my score:

Your soul is worth ?111564. For your peace of mind, 3% of people have a

Last time only 2% had purer souls. So some purer souled people have done

£18752. 51% have a purer soul than I do. I wonder what scored me down?
My Sony products (I own two)? My M$ products (two again!)? Being anti

I dunno...I'm beginning to feel inordinately pure...which
implies to me that either the site has a very different
idea of debauchery than I do, it gives a LOT of plus
points for honesty, or the results are entirely random

Well, we all *know* you're debauched!

BTW mine is worth £17,075 and 55% of people are purer than me. My Sony
products are records which I bought for who recorded them so I don't know
how that can affect things. The M$ products... well most people have
something from them because so many computers come ready loaded. Even if,
like me, you mainly use Linux.

BTW, there is a question asking if you have ever engaged in sex before
marriage. As I am single and have never been married I don't know because
it is possible that I will get married or that I will stay single, in
which case there is no marriage for anything to be before. Bit of a woolly
question that one.

Also, if you regularly visit Starbucks but only drink the coffee (I don't,
BTW), you can say that you don't eat on a regular basis there. But then I
suppose someone who regularly drinks Starbucks coffee will stoop as low as
McDonalds so the pedantry may be redundant!

Are you currently on a diet? Unless you are on a hunger strike the answer
has to be yes, even if you are consciously following something like the
Atkins wotsit. BTW, if this means "Are you consciously avoiding certain
types of foods?" that would include all vegetarians, people who avoid
certain meats for religious reasons, etc.

As for the question about being baptised, what if you had no choice in the
matter? I believe QE1 was baptised at 3 days old. While I know most
churches don't really like doing it that early these days, it was the age
of confirmation which they increased to the point where the applicant
could actually read his/her lines (even if they don't understand them),
not baptism.

Have you ever owned a vehicle ... 2 litres or more? -- Does this mean that
a XXX 2.0 would count? If so, don't forget most European cars which are
2.0 are actually about 1995-1998 cc (mainly because of an old tax loophole
in the UK where company cars used to be more prevalent than in the rest of
Europe) and are therefore under 2 litre.

I actually said "no" to "Have you ever tried to contact the dead?" but I'm
not a vegetarian. The dead I tried to contact today was beef at lunchtime
and chicken this evening.

<rant>
What really pees me off with this sort of junk (and I know I shouldn't let
it get to me) is that if I lie and say I am a practising christian a
much smaller percentage of people are supposedly purer than I am. As
someone who finds organised religion extremely offensive and impure, and
who was unfortunate enough to suffer what would have been seven of the
worst years of my life in a CofE school if I hadn't spent the better part
of the last two down the pub, this sort of shite really gets up my nose.
</rant>

I apologise if that upsets any practising christians here but atheists are
allowed our point of view as well and every now and then I publicise mine.
Personally, I'd be an iconoclast but it's too much like hard work.

You lose points for being on a diet. For every question they ask, your
answer affects your score. So they are asking a question which people in
the same position will answer differently depending on how they read the
meaning. It's all semantics at the end if the day. If you eat you are on a
diet. Even if you aren't consciously changing what you eat from what you
would rather eat. Most people think of being on a diet as meaning you are
trying to lose weight, but also some people go on a specific diet to put
weight on, to build muscle, etc. and eating to stay alive is still being
on a diet.

ecologically friendly than I have. What I was getting at was that a car
described as "2 litre" might be near enough for ad-speak purposes but less
than that for the purpose of the question.

Unfortunately I seem to come across far more "holier than thou" christians
than believers in other religions, whether organised or not. Even more
unfortunately I have got stuck working with one who doesn't seem to take
the hint when you tell him to shut up about it, to the point that I now
just take the piss and he still doesn't take the hint. The upside is that
we are actually based in different buildings several miles apart so I can
avoid him for quite long periods.

And of course, I never spent seven years of my life being preached at in
an educational establishment run by non-christian theists.

The weight I've lost has been due to breastfeeding.

In Mandrake 9.1 I got the wheel on a Microsoft Trackerball thingy to
scroll by telling the OS that it was a standard wheel mouse or there was
also a Logitech one. Anyway, the Microsoft mouse wasn't very good in Linux
or WIN98 so I took it back and swapped it for a Logitech one that isn't as
well built as the one it replaced (also Logitech) but also worked no probs
under Linux Mandrake 9.1 and still does now under Mandrake 9.2

Oh, c'mon. The whole idea of souls and selling is a riff on Christian
theology, so of course it matters if you're Christian, and of course it
matters whether you've been baptized. Because it matters in Christian
theology. The rules of the game are based on the rules of the religion,
and it's just silly to complain about the *game* being unfair...

(True, lots of varieties of Christianity agree with you about the
baptism thing, but they're the varieties less likely to talk about silly
things like soul sales as well.)

So why am I, as an atheist, not allowed to have my opinions? Or, to put it
another way, why is it that atheists appear not to be allowed to voice
their opinions? But if an atheist complains about a religious person
voicing their opinions, the atheist is slagged off for not being
"diverse", or is told that they should not be attacking someone else's
firmly held belief (even though nobody seems to mind about attacking mine)?

well yeah - that's the whole point of confirmation, that you do it
once you can answer for yourself. The CofE Infant Baptism service is
quite upfront: "Children who are too young to profess the Christian
faith are brought to be baptised ..... [into the faith] in which they
will live and grow."

I don't think most churches have a problem with infant baptism. [2]
Many might be doing a "welcoming ceremony" for children whose parents
don't attend regularly, but that's a different thing.

Mini-rant: at the last christening I attended the whole congregation
joined in with the affirmation by parents and godparents. This seems
to me to be a quite ridiculous pandering to people's sensibilities [1]
quite apart from spoiling the whole effect of joining in at the end
with "This is *our* faith". I don't know whether that's my local
church's decision or a change in Common Worship, but I Don't Like It.

What is your problem with the congregation joining in? To the best of my
recollection it has been like that for baptisms in the C of I for ever. The
point is not to spare embarassed/lukewarm parents and godparents but to make
it clear to everyone that the child is joining in a community. And that to
some extent everyone there has an investment in this new member.

But you see we did this at the *end*:

Parents and godparents answer the three questions with "I believe and
trust in him"

Priest turns to congregation and says "this is the faith of the
church"

Congregation replies "This is our faith. We believe and trust in one
god; Father, Son and Holy Spirit"

which (especially if congregation gets the stress right) I find
powerful and moving. Having everyone answer the original questions
detracted from it.

Sorry if I didn't make this clear.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but ...

A hairy hand? This is a problem why, precisely, in masturbating?

Assuming you mean the palm, not the back - since I *really* can't see why
the *back* of your hand being hairy can be a problem - and assuming the hair
isn't too coarse (in which case, darlings, condition!), I really can't see
the problem.

Well, except that you're mad, of course.

What do they do with the soul? Does it affect the previous owner, and
what happens to people who no longer have one?

Obviously, one similar to those used for coins. Once the album is
full, you've completed the set. The last soul that needs to be added
is that of your beloved child, of course. The first one is your own,
otherwise you're disqualified from collecting souls.

Now add your newly aquired...

'Thomas'

...by sticking his soul into the 63% spot. This of course raises the
question if souls are self-adhesive.

Yes, even I was impressed; I had never tried any illegal drugs , or same-sex
intimacy. I had apparently tried just about everything else they could think
of. Add a dachshund to the scenario above and I bet I could get my score
down to zero.[1] Oh, and one of the nuns must be dead. So it's not *quite*
as bad as I first indicated. I think it came to 17%, but I was hampered by
the "if you have to ask for clarification, it's a yes" rule. I'm very
literal and ask many questions.

Someone beat you to the "it can be arranged" quip.

They've got lots of cool tests on the Armory:

I'm 70.0% pure in the vampire domain (experience level: Goth[1]), with

I'm 52.2% trauma pure.

- Niceness (very easy to score low):

I'm 55.0% pure in the niceness domain.
"You are average. That is nothing to worry about, really. Just, eh,

- Geekness

So anyone want to corrupt me?
Ken
That sounds like a Purity Test challenge[1].
I seem to remember afp doing the Purity Test thing back in 1995 or so.
Maybe we should pull up DejaNews and see which test we used. I wonder
how my score has changed.... :)
Of course, I am crazy/sad [1] enough to do this search:

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22Purity+test%22+group:alt.fan.pratchett&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&c2coff=1&scoring=d&as_drrb=b&as_mind=12&as_minm=5&as_miny=1991&as_maxd=30&as_maxm=1&as_maxy=1997&start=60&sa=N

One of the test-pages found is this one:

http://www.nmt.edu/~kscott/purity/

which still works.

The others are:
http://www.armory.com/tests/sex1500.html
and:
http://www.armory.com/tests/500.html

For pure horrifing humour value how about the Dr Suess Purity Test
(http://www.armory.com/tests/seuss.html)
94% pure, 30% weird. That's after considering that 'it' might mean
more than 'with a partner'. Otherwise I was 100% pure, 34% weird.

What the hell is 'VD'? [2]

Now let's use this new pass-time [3].

Thomas

[1] Choose appropriate.
[2] Do I want to know?
[3] I'm talking about the tests...

Venereal Disease. We use the term Sexually Transmitted Disease, STD, now.

Jenny - nurse's daughter, OK?

Sometimes. I remember being startled by an American magazine article in
which a woman was light-heartedly joking about her toddler daughter
having VD. I was half way through the article with my hair starting to
stand on end when I realised that she meant Verbal Diarrhoea - or simply
that the child was a chatterbox.

Apparently mine is worth 50884 UK Pounds and only 13% of the people have
a purer soul than me (a few days old too so the prices may have changed...).
So anyone want to corrupt me?
Bugger, why didn't I think to ask that? ;-)

Perhaps because it's usually the other way 'round?

I'm worth £35033, apparently. What about you?
£16664, I am a bit worried on two counts, one that it isn't more ( and 54% of
people are purer than me) the other worry is that 666 thang......

But look at soul trading in a more general sense, I am sure some
afpeconomist could work out, for instance, if Mephistopheles or Faust
got the better of the deal. Nowadays, at values in the posts above not
many afpers are going to get a good deal out of the devil. And what
about the futures market, option trading? How is it going to work? And
if you can't sell it then it isn't worth anything.
