Poor people already get ripped off by gambling, regardless of the

If you bet on Lottoland, you create a few jobs in Darwin. The rest goes
to scumbags in a tax haven.
At least with state-sanctioned Lotto, some money dribbles to charities.

I didn't know that but I was only thinking before it'd at least be
something if some did go to charities. Anyone know what % does go to
charity?

These scammers know before ticket is drawn what numbers are needed to
lose or win.
You suggest "they" are honest?

Some time ago a old retired Campbelltown guy bought a ticket in Lotto
to find he had won 2 million dollars. When he went to Macarthur Square
newsagent to confirm the ticket. He was told with a smile, "sorry this
ticket was cancelled"

to do some fancy bets and the odds increase massively.
Nothing is for free and the house always wins
lotteries are good because you don't need to know anything. it all
depends on luck, so you have as much chance as anyone of winning a
prize. even if you don't win, just by being in it allows you to dream,
and you have the possibility of winning- until they tell you you haven't
won anything of course :)

You should do yourself a favour and think about what you posted. I
strongly doubt if any other poster is as gullible as you.
FWIW, giving someone else monet to dream is suppossedly the oldest
profession.

Now 34.25 cents a game?
I couldn't give a flying fuck what they do to the cost of gambling.
You don't care about poor people getting ripped off by the lotteries?
lotteries aren't a rip off. for a small cost they give you the chance to
become rich.
Better odds of getting a return on horse or dog races.
yeah but you need to  know form, tracks, history, etc.,

It doesn't say that anyhthing of the cost of the ticket goes to kids with
cancer. It says if you make a DIRECT donation, then it goes to kids, but
buying the ticket will gomto the mob running the lottery, with a bit to
the fouindation for their admin expenses, anda bit to prizes, which I
guess are mostly donated to the promoters.

To be fair there are a lot of small family charities around. I'm
director of one and the regulations involved are strict. For instance
you need an appointed "responsible person" approved by whichever Dept.
covers these things and we actually run our ours under Australian
Philanthropic. To be fair our expenses are simple and Directors don't
get anything.

However a lot of charities are very suss in the amount of money that
never sees the intended people IMHO eg RFSA

I didn't mean to suggest all charities are scams, but I would say a
very significant percentage (maybe more than half) are simply there to
create self-employment via admin/managerial duties. That's IMO anyway.

I agree I was just pointing out one reason for the large numbers of
charities in Australia. To take it further, lots of RFS brigades, Surf
lifesaving clubs, SES units etc are/can be set up as charities to
receive tax-deductible gifts. My Brigade couldn't be bothered as it is
to much hassle

Being cynical/sceptical is a healthy and rational approach.

And of course - absolutely nothing forthcoming from you to disprove my
contention. So, you genuinely believe that most charities are truly
legit?

Correct. All gambling is a mugs game, but 1000 to 1 odds on the horses
has to be batter than 1000000000000 to 1 odds with lotto.

lotteries aren't a rip off. for a small cost they give you the chance to
become rich.
You are chasing a fallacy. Whilst the maximum return might be large, the
chance of that return is miniscule. There are better rates of return.

Investing wisely.

99% or more of the millionaires of the world didn't get to be
millionaires by buying lottery tickets. They made their own luck.

I only personally know only one person who had a big win on the lottery
- $1.2 million back when a million dollars was actually worth something
- but he is no longer a millionaire.

Easy come, easy go - as the saying goes.

would be none. bitcoin maybe, but that boat has sailed. you're just

How many you know who even know someone, who knows someone, who knows

Yells me it's a scam, supposedly 4 draws a week makes 208 winners each

Times were different then.
Had a Croatian mate who was buying a syndicate ticket with some other
Croatians after years they were one of a number winners. He then went
to continue the syndicate but none of the others would, so he
continued alone and won again.
The other Croatians now have a death contract on him for not sharing
in prize?

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot
survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable,
for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves
amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling
through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar
to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he
appeals to the basenessthat lies deep in the hearts of all men. He
rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night
to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so
that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

Islamists behave the same way wherever they are allowed to infest.
They share tips and tricks on how to cheat the infidel. One of these
tips is that infidels never want to believe the extent and cynicism of
the islamist hatred toward them and to the west and its people. If the
infidel is given a choice between fighting for the truth with an
islamist, or paying him compensation as "piss off" money, they will
always take the latter. Another is that their religion sanctions any
illegal activity.

return.
like what? what else can potentially turn $5 into $5 million
Compound interest has a higher definite return.
hmmm.. wonder how long it would take to reach $5 million? you're talking
nonsense
Nope. compare that $20 ahead to how much you'll spend and be behind after
$5/week for 20 years.
Hint, what are your chance is winning this $5M? About 1 in 1,00o billion?
1 : 18,385,876 to win the Jackpot in the NSW $2 jackpot
1 : 9,483,167 for the $5 one
and plenty of lotteries with much better odds. no one needs to win
$50 million to set themselves up for life. just a few mill will do
I thought for cash lotteries these were the best odds of winning
big. Certainly better than lotto, powerball etc
these? what, the 'NSW jackpot'?
As I was obviously referring to that YES
I thought there may have been more

I have no idea. I'm not in NSW, and

mostly I don't go in for big odds lotteries. just the odd flutter now

just a few points sir, for your consideration..

1. you won't be alive in 50 years to spend your $20!

2. the odds depend on what lottery you 'invest' in

3. and the clincher.. you're assuming there will be no winnings.

I could be dining in luxury on the French Riveria while you're still
waiting for your $5 to grow to $20 so you can afford to lash out in
Maccas :)

oh sorry, you wont be able to do that. you'll be dead!

just poor value. Monster cables are one of those. According to felix,

audio and video cables do affect A/V performance. it's a fact. I have a
lot of experience with cables in domestic A/V setups, and it's not
necessarily 'better' or more expensive cables that produce better results

audio and video cables do affect A/V performance. it's a fact. I have a

lotteries aren't a rip off. for a small cost they give you the
chance to become rich.
You are chasing a fallacy. Whilst the maximum return might be large,
the chance of that return is miniscule. There are better rates of
return.
like what? what else can potentially turn $5 into $5 million
About 1 in 1,00o billion?
just a few points sir, for your consideration..
1. you won't be alive in 50 years to spend your $20!
2. the odds depend on what lottery you 'invest' in
3. and the clincher.. you're assuming there will be no winnings.
I could be dining in luxury on the French Riveria while you're still
waiting for your $5 to grow to $20 so you can afford to lash out in
Maccas :)
oh sorry, you wont be able to do that. you'll be dead!

Get out of here felix. Someone who knows what they are talking about
understands that you can't see different colours, clarity or saturation
depending on what brand of HDMI cable or DVD media you buy.

Digital signals do not work that way.

Monster cable simply is *not* industry standard and as far as speaker
cable goes, what might make a measurable difference does not equate to
an audible difference that humans can perceive.

In a double blind trial I bet most audiophools wouldn't be able to pick
fencing wire from monster speaker cable and you wouldn't be able to pick
a $3 HDMI cable from a Monster HDMI cable meeting the same spec.

That is another few reasons why I have money and you are forced to
frequent maccas and lottery offices. also why I'll continue to do so
after the highly unlikely event you ever win.

well 70 years then, or 100. the point is that your argument is
ridiculous. there are no investments that can do anything with $5 to
create wealth other than a lottery

No lottery/gambling is a form of investment.
which is why I put it in inverted commas, because it's not a normal
investment, but it is an investment in the sense that you invest in the
possibility of winning. or maybe this is all too hard for you to understand?

like what? what else can potentially turn $5 into $5 million
Compound interest has a higher definite return.
:-)) I was in the local news agency one day when someone spent over $30
on one of those ball games Lotto? Powerball? or whatever they are
called. After the person left, I made the observation that I thought
$30 was a lot of money to shell out on that sort of thing and the
response I got was that the person spent that amount regularly and a
somewhat disapproving look from the agency owner.

We both knew the person and they are as poor as a church mouse. Now I
can understand felix' comment about spending on gambling being a form of
dreaming about making it big and ending up rich (a silly dream IMO) but
$30 put away each week/fortnight for a few weeks then used to start some
form of investment or even to pay down debt would be a much smarter
option for this poor person.

No wonder the poor stay poor if they are prepared to in effect just
throw away $30 on a dream. Getting rich takes effort and discipline.

Australian newsagents celebrate as government acts to outlaw “dodgy”

28th March 2018

Until further notice, entries into Draw 1144 (Thu,19 Apr 2018) and
beyond will not be available for purchase. To allow big prizes and
more winners in every draw, the price of playing Powerball will also
increase by 25 cents per game (plus commission) from Friday 13 April*.
6 GAMES $5.55  6 Game  Standard Entry 9.25 cents a game
Now 34.25 cents a game?
I couldn't give a flying fuck what they do to the cost of gambling.
You don't care about poor people getting ripped off by the lotteries?
No, they are probably poor because they gamble,(self inflicted)

The Australian goverment has always been very worried about losing the
money from lotteries not surprising as many overseas lotteries give the
punter better value.

Having said this no lottery is a good investment,
