Although, let's face it, around this way it's very unlikely anyone
would be *that* sure of the father of their child.

Most of them are a few miles from Abergavenny, with the last batch
around Tenby and from there to St David's and the coast along that sort
of way.

What gets me is that I was wearing a stonking pair of boots and they

And I've not seen that either.

But I have seen 'Dune'- at the cinema, even. It was the giveaway DVD in
this week's Sindy and I looked at it again and, by god, it's bad. Bad,
bad, baddidy BAD. So bad it's not even good- it comes out the other side
and reenters badness. I mean there are a couple or three nice sequences
but they are short and lost in a trackless desert of badness. Full of
bad worms. And bloody awful acting, with creaky lines. And dreadful hair
cuts. All the way through I was cringing for the poor buggers who had to
finish it after what was, clearly, a horrendous first cut. Ooooooo.
Lynch must have been longing for a worm to rise up and swallow him.

I had a flatmate who tried to watch it, every time he tried, week after
week, always after a night in the pub, he fell asleep. I ran into him
in a pub many years later and one of the first things he said was that
he had finally got all the way through 'Dune'. I don't recall him being
very impressed with it either.

A useful rule of thumb is that if a film has such low standards that
Sting has been given a role in it then it should be avoided at all
costs. (The same rule aplies for David Bowie and a number of other
"celebs" with zero acting ability).

makes Sting, Bowie et al look as if they deserve Oscars by comparison ?

I read that for some re release Lynch had the film recredited to

I have been sent a Lynch DVD about meditation, not risked putting

The first cut was 5 hours long [1] but they wouldn't let them release
it. They should have released it as a series the way they do now.

It's crying out for a full release on DVD.

Ian
[1] As outlined by Frank Herbert in forward to his short story
collection "Eye". It also lists what was cut. It's a long list and most
of it is vital for the story.

There's a new version of the movie on DVD, though I'm not sure what's
different about it.

I still prefer the film in many ways to the recent TV series.

The list in Eye is only a partial one:

---
The confrontation between Stilgar and Leto

Development of the relationship between Shadout Mapes and Jessiva

Love story between Paul and Chani

The fight between Paul and Jamis and the "giving water to the dead"

Development of Kynes

Relationship between Paul and Duncan/Haway/Gurney/Yueh

Death of Hawat

The relationship between Paul and Harah

Scenes with Jessica and the RM Mohiam

'Dune' is typically a film I use to demonstrate the principle that
anything with Patrick Stewart in can't be _all_ bad, with the notable
exception of Star Trek.

It was quite refreshing to hear him say 'Bollocks...absolute bollocks!'
in 11th Hour. I can't tell you how many times I've watched those sodding
skin care adverts and thought exactly the same thing.

(STANDS UP AND SHOUTS AT THE ROMANS) _I_'ve seen "Spartacus"!

Were you aware she is a bigamist?

PS I've not seen Spartacus, have I missed anything?

Kingston seems to be finding an alternative to handing out ASBOs.
http://www.sarlet.com/spartacus.jpg
Sorry - the jpeg is so low res that I can't get the joke?????
I don't get it either - it's just a blurry pic with some illegible signs
? Too subtle for me...
It's not that blurry! It shows a line of crosses along the edge of the
road, ready for the execution of the chavs, much as those Stanley
Kubrick depicted for the death of Spartacus et al on the Appian Way.

How old fashioned. Use "No More Nails" instead.

If they're anything like the ones they've put up round here, they have
special fittings on the cross bars. 'Christian Ready'.

Perhaps you mean 'Roman Ready'. It was the Christians that got nailed
up, if you recall (amongst others).

...apart from two people who were posthumously charged with 'bleeding on

But chaos at the courts as 10,000 people confess to the same crime.
