Post by CAHighway99I'm not sure if you realize this, but aaroads.com is considered to be
the hallmark of roadgeeking websites. Think of aaroads.com as
basically the top of the tree, while every website afterwards can have
its roots traced to aaroads.com in some way, shape or form.
Beg to differ.
I can only speak to cahighways.org, but my site has been around since the early
1990s, and goes back even earlier to posts on ca.driving back in the late 1980s.
It has always been completely independent from other websites.
As for aaroads, it showed up in the late 1990s, as a combination of the efforts
of Alex (on the east coast) and Andy. Now, I was less familiar with Alex's work,
but Andy had a parallel site to cahighways.org that focused on a specific subset
of California roads. Excellent work. Anyway, he and Alex merged their sites to
form the original aaroads content.
So, while I applaud the work of Alex and Andy as a group, we should also
acknowledge the excellent predecessor sites that went into it, their developers,
and the fact that there are a number of sites that are completely independent
efforts.
