"For the next Grands Prix". So like Attorneys General and Surgeons General
the pluralisation of the first word is important.

Gasly will do Sepang and Suzuka with Kvyat back for COTA, when Gasly has a
Super Formula race. After that? Who knows?

If Gasly puts up a decent performance I would expect to see him and Kvyat
at STR next year after Sainz goes to Renault.

How many minutes into the coverage will it take before that joke's rolled
out? First 20 minutes, I reckon.

I saw him race in every race of last years GP2 season. He's quite a good
driver but not a person whom I admire. He's petulant, entitled and arrogant.
In fact he reminds me of a young Vettel in that way. Maybe it's a RBR thing?

Well then, it says a lot about their opinion of Kvyat if they're giving this guy an audition. The Russian better circulate his resume. I don't know about his contract situation, but...

I don't think the team has a lot of options. If they were retaining Sainz, then the threat to Kvyat's drive would be a lot stronger, but they don't have and Honda don't have anybody else looking likely to get a super license in time for next season. Do they want to take on an outsider, so to speak?

It seems odd, or drastic, in the context of the WCC. They can still catch Williams, still be caught by Renault and maybe by Haas. That's why they're going to keep Sainz in the car, even though he's leaving them: He's more likely to get the vital points. But are they saying that a rookie is more likely than Kvyat to help the cause? It seems that way.

But see my first paragraph - I think Kvyat is safe for another year.

The strength of Palmer's contract at Renault may have something to do
with Sainz staying at TR for the rest of 2017.

It might mean that Renault can't put Sainz in the car. It won't prevent TR from dropping Sainz for Gasly.

ESPN are reporting that Palmer was offered a not insubstantial payoff to walk away and let Sainz into the car for the rest of the season. He turned it down.
