Lots of photos were taken, of people and dogs, mainly by Nick & Penny,
so I'm sure they'll appear on a website near you soon.

It was a lovely day and a great pleasure to meet Nick & Penny again and
Liliana for the first time. Nick & Liliana met me at the station and we
walked round to the coffee shop where Penny joined us shortly after. We
lingered over our drinks until the heat got the better of us and we
meandered down the road looking for somewhere cool, dog-friendly and not
horrendously expensive for lunch.

Ended up somewhere I've forgotten the name of, by the river and had a
very pleasant and leisurely lunch. The conversation even turned to TA
at one point!

The others then set off to visit the Market Hall, but as that is no-go
for the dogs and it was conveniently close to the time I could catch a
train, we parted company at that point, affirming an intention to do it
again.

You were missed, Sally.

Thanks for the synopsis Jenny. On the upside the ballet was fantastic. I am
a huge fan of Matthew Bourne's work and this didn't disappoint, with little
nods to the original fairy story as well as the film. Home now with feet
up, windows open, a cold drink to hand and TA to catch up on:-)

You can see what some of us used to look like here
<http://www.leverton.org/blosxom/Usenet/Umra/>
I can't recall who took the Jenny, Fenny, Penny pic but it plainly wasn't
Nick Leverton, or Jane Vernon
<http://www.clothandclay.co.uk/umra/index.htm>

Aha! A quick google suggests I have the pic somewhere
<https://goo.gl/6FFDWj> I may put them back online at some point, given
the appropriate tuit.

I came across a lot of downloaded images of umra BBQs on my back-up drive
today, including some from that event (which predates my own time on umra).
Just wondering where to put them all since I didn't take them (obviously)
and am not sure I can identify and separate out the photographers for the
pics which aren't 'mine'.

I've just had another look and don't believe those I have are McToodles' -
the folder is called ceolss00 and all have M$ Wordart style captions -
could they be yours (despite the fact you appear in some of them)?

As a post-BBQ member of umra, I have always thought the photos all looked
very jolly and what a shame they stopped. I understand that people get
older and I think I read that the McToodles no longer have parking
facilities, but couldn't they be resurrected somewhere?

And how did they start?

I suppose life moves on for folk. I managed to get to the first couple but
after that the date always overlapped with our annual trip to the
Highlands. Iirc they began through some link to the LSS; and then took on
a life of their own.

The McToodles suggested and started the Umrabbq's, but as you say, parking
in the road become almost impossible; I think vehicle possession in the
road must be approx 2.5 cars per household with parking for far less than
this; many drivers seem reluctant to park off-road even when there is
space.

With SODAM and others in Scotland meeting in a pub. Glasgow I think, BTMS?
SODAM and Steohen Turner. Can't remember who else.

I think I tracked them down yesterday Chris, on your Flickr account.
Goodness knows where I found these other Carol Boyd pics though.
ITYM Lynda Snell!
Indeed. Carole Boyd was never at any umra event.
She even brought Hicks as her driver.
ITYM Higgs.

I probably did get it wrong (I had some doubt as I typed it). But, of
course, it could be that Jack Woolley (sp?) always got it wrong, and
Hicks/Higgs, being a silent character, could never correct him ...

Higgs was very chatty at the bbq iirc.

You need the additional quality offered by VHF FM tuners when linked to an
adequate hi-fi system set up in a quiet environment; you can't hear the
silent character's backchat on DAB due to the much restricted bandwidth. 😉

Does anyrat kno where the pic of the first bbq can be aeen. The one at
which Mrs Snell's friend pitched up. And where SODAM turned up as EllyMay
Give me a few days to locate a tuit as this is better done from the IMac
and you can have a whole lot of urls,
I think I tracked them down yesterday Chris, on your Flickr account.
Goodness knows where I found these other Carol Boyd pics though.
Not sure. TNMF did have a flickr account and then he suddenly couldn't get
into it, but I don't remember him putting them up later on. I can't
remember who else might have put put Carol Boyd photos up.

Hmm.....not sure who took them but this event took place in my garden
following a local TA event.
The non umra couple are my nephew and his wife. Cant think what they ere
doing there but Nick pitched up at a Snell book event.......her mate lived
near me, as did Sodam. The non appearing person who was there is Mr Btms
so he probably took them. Suspect I uploaded them.

AIAOU in find it rather amusing that someone in the Computer Science

The Flickr problem was that the software refused to admit he existed, then
wouldn't let him change his password he told me. Impasse.

He couldn't find a software package he could work with satisfactorily and

who are the umrats (and umdogs) in the
piccies?
You can see what some of us used to look like here
<http://www.leverton.org/blosxom/Usenet/Umra/>
I can't recall who took the Jenny, Fenny, Penny pic but it plainly wasn't
Nick Leverton, or Jane Vernon
<http://www.clothandclay.co.uk/umra/index.htm>
It might have been TNMF.

Someone remember to take photos! Especially of the dogs:-)
But only the dogs looked like themselves. I guess the rest of you were
actors? On second thoughts the dog that looked like a peke but wan't must
have been an actor too.

Thanks for sharing and it looks like a relaxed time for all.

Heat?? Well, umra is generally lucky with heat.
It was hot and muggy - not pleasant. Nice bit of shade at the pub we
finally ended up at - having been dismissed from the Wetherspoon which
won't even tolerate dogs outside and then been put off by £10 sandwiches at
the next two. A breeze off the river was good too.

What was less good was a chef who apparently thought hard, cream-coloured
avocado was edible - I wouldn't let them 're-make' my salad, the rest of it
was fine. I did accept some sliced apple as a poor substitute and an
assurance the chef would be advised that avocado should be soft and green
(I did wonder later if he'd discarded the fruit and sliced up the stone).

I think we'd finished eating by the time a blackbird decided to bombard us
with grot from the gutter...

I found it hard to understand. I haven't put my hearing aids in tyet.
But it showed some Joyce Grenfell ones on the page and I love this

Not heard it before. Quite clear to hear too!
I hadn't heard it before either, so thank you. I was a great fan of Joyce
Grenfell.

I think we'd finished eating by the time a blackbird decided to bombard us
with grot from the gutter...
Oh dear sounds awful. ?
It really wasn't :)
The blackbird activity was funny but came as a surprise - compost was
raining on my head.
Shrewd move on the Blackbird's part.
Chuck stuff down.
Punters abandon food.
Blackbird moves in, dons a serviette and tucks in.
Good man! It's *far* too long since we had a decent Rubbish Limerick.
<Wanders off, singing
"Compost was raining on my head,
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turning red...">[1]
I bet they were rather tyred of that gutta-percha. Did they rub 'er up
the wrong way perhaps ?

Someone remember to take photos! Especially of the dogs:-)
I think that might have been my fault. Profuse apologies everybody

The others then set off to visit the Market Hall, but as that is no-go
for the dogs and it was conveniently close to the time I could catch a
train, we parted company at that point, affirming an intention to do it
again.
You were missed, Sally.
We split up again and Liliana and I did a bit more sightseeing before
taking the train back to Huddersfield. We both had a lovely day and
enjoyed our time out and about with Penny and Jenny.

Some of our pictures are here.... (hope they download okay and the
titles are still intact)

Sorry too that it's taken so long to break radio silence: we got back on
Wednesday evening to find the broadband was down and we've been rather
busy since then and until now.

Once again, a lovely day spent in super company: thanks!

Oh dear. Links don't seem to be working. I'll try and have another go
when I get a little time.

Excellent. I only tried to use file.io because tinypic wasn't working
for me but that may have been connected to my internet-down problem
because it worked easily enough when I uploaded those pics today.
