I am working on the descendants of the Dadyán family of Hungary,
themselves descended from Levanti IV Dadiani-Vardanidze of Mingrelia.
The father of Countess Aline Dobržensky von Dobrženicz is mentioned
as above.

He seems to have been an American millionaire who purchased
Loughlinstown House in Co. Dublin and was prominent in racing circles
during the late 1960s and 1970s. Alas, I have not been able to find our
anything more about him.

Can anyone shed any light on the background of this gentlemen or the
title?

Good question. Nothing in my 1960 Whitakers, or my 1962 Who's Who.
Nothing in the 2002 Who's Who. There is an American businessman, born
1905, named John Michael Galvin (of Buffalo, a Knight of Malta) in my
1976 Statesmen's Handbook, but no apparent connection to Ireland or the
UK.

According to this site, Miss Galvin married in Dublin in 1975:

This names her father as Sir J A G and her mother as Eileen Anslow
[?Onslow?].

There is another website that refers to a Sir John Galvin, born in
Australia, and states he was a Knight of Malta and "spent the most of
his life overseas"; I cannot work that link at present however, so
shan't cite it here. I have no idea whether this is the same Sir John
Galvin - I can find no reference to anyone of that name in my 1947
Australian Who's Who or my 1984 Debrett's Handbook of Australians.

According to the online records of the Irish Parliament, Sir John
Galvin (sic) was a trustee of the National Library of Ireland as
recently as 1985:

The crucial period seems to be about 1969 to the 1970s.

Indeed, all the records I have looked at also draw a blank. I have even
been through the online London Gazette and the Roll of Knights
Bachelor.

At any rate the "of Loughlinstown" seems to be a case of over egging
the pudding. He only seems to have owned Loughlinstown House for a
relatively short period of time.

Hi there, I noticed an Irish Times article in 2016 which mentions that No. 64 Fitzwilliam Square was owned by Sir John Galvin and was sold by him about 20 years ago - hope this helps!

I think he may have been the Sir John Galvin who partly financed the building of St Vincent's Hospital's modern premises at Elm Park, Dublin. the hospital may be able to help you further.
