LOL - The Sun goes into full eloquent tub-thumping mode with the following.

THE SUN SAYS: Two men stand in the way of a Brexit deal benefiting
millions… a cognac-soaked clown and a puffed-up dandy

For months British voters and politicians have been mocked, belittled
and abused by EU head Jean-Claude Juncker and chief negotiator Michel
Barnier - it has to end

The Sun had assumed Brussels would engage professionals to handle the
most vital negotiation in decades. Instead these posturing buffoons are
in charge.

What do they hope to achieve with their daily barbs, poisonous
briefings, pig-headed intransigence and exorbitant demands? If it’s to
show other electorates how hard it is to leave the EU, they’re rather
labouring the point.

If it’s to intimidate Britain into rethinking Brexit, they are in la-la
land.

That ship sailed long ago. Hearts have hardened. With every sneering
insult, Brits grow more certain we made the right choice and that the
EU, not our Government, will be to blame if talks fail.

Compared with Barnier, Brexit Secretary David Davis is a model of
affable flexibility, tact and professionalism.

A harmonious deal looks increasingly unlikely as the clock ticks and
Barnier and Juncker keep up their destructive double-act. We must
prepare to leave without one. But that need not happen.

It is time for the grown-ups, Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron, to
seize negotiators by the throat and tell them to stop wasting time with
point-scoring one-upmanship. Big firms on the Continent — Volkswagen,
BMW, Mercedes, Siemens, Renault — should demand it.

A “no deal” Brexit will cost them dear.

Their profits and the vast number of jobs depending on them cannot be at
the mercy of blockheads in Brussels.

I love it! The "blockheads in Brussels" apparently read (and take far
too much to heart) what British newspapers say. And while the British
Government has to remain tactful the press can call out the EU's
narrow-minded stupidity for what it is - a few arrogant people standing
"in the way of a Brexit deal benefiting millions" of normal citizens.

Yes, we all know your 'reliable' news sources are the Sun, Mail, and Donald tweets.

Given the way things are with the EU and Eastern Europe, I'd put a quid

It'll be good for business. moron. The EU has made itself into a
repressive totalitarian state. Which of course explains why a
Stalinist moron like you would favour it. Pity so many member
states are foundering, ay.

Moslems and Islam are of course synonymous with terror!
It was and is a CRIME to allow Moslems in. Every politician is obligated to know the history of foreign people they bring in. If they had done even a little bit of study they would have found a bloodthirsty people, full of hate and terrorism.?

James, you probably know as well as I do that our government is a shocking shambles, and they are going to damage Brexit immensely.
I am in two minds about how well or badly the government is handling
Brexit. We don't know their internal conversations or strategies. All we
can do is go on what they say, and they have an extremely difficult
balancing act in whatever they say publicly.

One thing I am sure of is that the present Labour party would be inept
at arranging Brexit. So the Tories really are the only current option.

The Present Labour party does not have a policy of Brexit. They say in their recent election manifesto that they respect the referendum result and support departure from both the Single market and the customs union. Then they invent an irrelevancy in the so called Henry VIII clause conveniently forgetting the fact that much of the EU legislation in question got onto our statute book in the first place by judicious use of the Royal Prerogative without a murmur of dissent in either of the houses.

The truth is that the opposition has but one objective in mind. They want to embarrass the government and ultimately replace it.

Nothing else matters to them.

Can you quote that part of the Labour manifesto? I couldn't find it to
say exactly what you said. But the leaders (Corbyn, McDonnell etc) did
verbally say in the run-up to the general election that we would leave
the SM and CU.

Agreed - part of this is opportunistic. They may, however, tarnish
their reputation among their supporters. And that's to be welcomed!

I am more concerned that if this bill gets scant support in the Commons
then the Lords may feel emboldened to add what will effectively be
wrecking amendments.
