OT: water carbonators

Although I drink tap water, my OH likes the bottled fizzy variety and in an
attempt to stop using “one-use” plastic bottles I’ve been looking at the
modern versions of the soda syphon.

I’ve earmarked two: the Levivo

Carbon Dioxide dissolves better in cold water. With two bottles, you
can have one in use while the other is in the fridge filled with tap water.

Indeed. We have also remembered that when we had some water outage we were
left multiple bottles of still water from our water company which are in
the garage and will be deployed for the purpose in due time.

I have a feeling they "retire" models after a period of time to force
you to upgrade!

There are souces of bottles, I just need to find the most cost
effective. As we've recently had a new set of employee offers at work
which includes money off at Argos, that may be the option I end up
going with.

bottled. Someone else pointed out that the plastic bottle reacts with
the water to produce a not particularly wholesome solution.

Another benefit of the Sodastream route: you make tap water fizzy when you want it,
so it only spends a short time in the bottle, rather than the days or weeks of

I think it's also that the water in the rocks (or wherever it has spent
the millions of years) is away from sunlight (or other light), whereas
in bottles, things can grow.

and certainly not for flushing). I'd like to give them back (since I

I have one houseplant, an amaryllis/hippeastrum which puts out its
ridiculous (but very pleasing) Tannoy-like flowers every year around
March/April; that lives by my sink when not flowering, and gets waste
water daily anyway. The garden - the marigold field seems to thrive
regardless, the buddleia and lavender likewise; the only plant that
needs watering, in hot weather, is the hydrangea, and that needs a
dishbowl of water a day or more when it's really hot and dry in summer
to stop its flowerheads going brown, so three bottles wouldn't go far.
(I don't have a bath here, and am not sure how I'd use them in the
shower.)

Really, it just seemed to me a waste (of water-rate-payers' money) to
automatically and instantly dish out this bottled water. (We were only
off for part of a day.)

It could be that it's just that my neighbours were too efficient in the
distribution (I didn't have to go to the distribution point; soon after
the pallet or whatever of bottles appeared here, someone had brought me
my allocation). Maybe if those who didn't need it urgently had _not_
collected theirs (and not had them delivered), those remaining
uncollected would have been reclaimed by the water company. Though I
somehow rather doubt it.

Plants won't mind it at all. You could empty it into your rainwater
butt to go on the garden later.

If you are worried about insects, moss and plants etc that might be
inside your water bottle, you might have a point but sunlight is an
age-old treatment for purification of water since it kills off microbes.
