Oh, dear Lord! I am so sorry, Bottoms. Truly. That's awful news and I
for one am honoured that you have felt you can tell us. I hope that
it's treatable and that the coming time isn't as burdensome as you
probably fear.

It is at times like this that you realise how much you can care about
someone you've never actually met in the flesh. You'll be in my
thoughts and I will be grateful for any updates you feel you can give us.

Fingers crossed that you get good care to keep you comfortable and
that the consultant has some good news of possible treatment. Things
do change. Advice I was given was go for any trial treatment they
offer. It's good the family are being a support.

Understand. But need to be realistic. Clinical intervention in likely to
make huge difference and risk of brain damage high risk. Will stay with
best management option and go with the flow. Sorry I I know this sort of

It sounds as if you had no symptoms and they caught it by chance. It
must be good that it was spotted before it causes problems and
hopefully early enough for treatment to go well. I'll be thinking of

So sorry to hear this. I took a bad fall before Easter which triggered a
brain haemorrhage, made worse by being on post heart attack blood thinning
aspirin. Two operations later I'm fine, but I won't pretend that it isn't
confronting to be faced with surgery that carries significant risks.

Anyway I hope things work out. I - and all my friends - were amazed by the
fact I had no post surgery pain or other side effects nothwithstanding my
head having been opened up. Hopefully this will be your experience too.

My brother had a fall last year and struck his head. For a couple of days
after his first operation, he was on the danger list. He had three
subsequent operations for bleeding on the brain but now is as good as he
ever was. He drives, lives alone (doing his own housework) and looks after
his pigeon loft and allotment (a combined enterprise). I was amazed that
after his third operation he was so lucid and mobile. I told him that you
would never know that a couple of days previously someone had been
rummaging about in his brain. He is 78.

My admiration for the NHS, surgeons, nursing staff and modern surgical
techniques is limitless.

Many years ago a cycling friend was diagnosed with a brain tumour after
she started falling off her bike more often than could be considered
normal. She made a full recovery after surgery but complained of one side
effect - her hair was now growing in a different direction. Her surgeon
responded "I'm a doctor, not a hairdresser".

Praying this will be one of the benign ones. A close friend of my wife
was diagnosed with a brain tumour which she has probably had for just
about all her life. Apparently it's just been sitting there doing
nothing nasty and not growing for nearly sixty years. If it's not,
praying for successful treatment/ full healing.

About twenty years ago the secretary of my allotment association was
diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent surgery. Six years ago we
ran into him at an Artweeks event where he was exhibiting some wonderful
drawings. Two months ago I met him as he was happily carrying home a
bucketful of fantastic redcurrants. Words may be great therapy, but so
is the medical care available these days. Take both.

Oh gosh I this is a new view of things to me but good to hear we are in the
hands ofthe docs and I have to say guys at the moment I feel fine bu I had
breastcancer nine years ago and I am told that this drama is absolutely
nothing to do with th at notoconnected at all but we have to wait for more
information and see where we go oh I’ve just learnt how to do dictated
messages at least I think I have it might be better than my typing keep
praying or whatever you do. Words are great therapy. Umra is amazing.

Take both.

Yup. Will do. Just appreciate folk oftenn keep quiet for finding the

May I add in the midst of this umratic outpouring of well-intentioned
and much deserved sympathy that we do seem to have forgotten the need
for similar (though perhaps reduced) sympathy for Mr Bottoms, who will
probably be suffering from the uncertainty as much as you are. And the
rest of the family as it all ripples out.

I'm glad you told us about the dictation - presumably something
involving speech recognition, like the old Dragon Dictate - because I'd
been worried, though didn't want to say anything, about the interesting
spacing in your posts: I'd been worried it might be something to do with
the new news. Glad it's the dictation software (which is presumably
something you'd been going to do for some time, nothing to do with the
new news).

(What dictation software/hardware _are_ you using? Otherrats might like
to know.)

Sending thoughts and support your way too dear Leader, as you said in
another posting the words are sometimes hard to find, but I'm glad you
seem to be getting good care from the NHS. I'm sure the 'dictatorial'
typing will quickly become wholly natural ...
