It has nothing to do with what we want. It just how it is. Our atoms remain, but our memories are gone. That scares the hell out of you, not me.

Poor Otis dead and gone
Left us to sing his song...
Poor Jud is dead,
a candle at his head.

Eleanor Rigby, died in the church
And was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt
From his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved

"There'll be one child born in this world to carry on"

Recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary, Ms Nyro, and the smash hit
version by Blood, Sweat & Tears.

[I won't SWEAR they're ain't no heaven, but I find it to be ludicrously

An episode of the Britcom "Mulberry". The hero is the son (and
apprentice) of thw Grim Reaper, who tries to help an old lady instead
of collecting her so he gets a job as her manservant....

Thanks for that. I watched one episode and will go back to watch more.
The guy who plays Mulberry looks enough like Michael Keating to be his twin brother, He even sounds like him (Vila on "Blakes 7") I wonder if Terry Prachett ever watched this show.

You have yet to provide evidence that your particular god (whether material
or not) ever existed. Without your god, there is no heaven, no hell, no Jesus,
no miracles, no devil, no imps, no demons, no angels, etc. You aren't scaring
anyone, failure.

That's what I said. Our dead body turns to dust. A soul, which is an
animation, is reconfigured with a glorified body. Does your diseased body
going to hell get reconfigured to suffer, I really can't answer that.

Interesting sidelight: Did you know that the most severe class of burns are not typically painful?
...correct, because the underlying nerve structures have been
destroyed. But this is strictly a biological thing. A soul wouldn't
have the neuro-receptors needed to feel pain and would feel
nothing as well. These theists have modeled their bizarre supernatural
crap on human physiology...a jealous, angry god and the pain of
hellfire torture. That's a big flaw..and. demonstrates, quite
obviously, that their god is humanly fabricated and totally imaginary.

have the neuro-receptors needed to feel pain and would feel
nothing as well. These theists have modeled their bizarre supernatural
crap on human physiology...a jealous, angry god and the pain of
hellfire torture. That's a big flaw..and. demonstrates, quite
obviously, that their god is humanly fabricated and totally imaginary.
AFAIKS the early Christians didn't have the concept of a discarnate soul. I once searched a searchable on-line Bible for the context of the word "soul" and in every case I looked at it meant what we'd call "the emotional self".

The idea of a soul leaving the body would never have occurred to them.

No you can't.
Those dogs love life so much they wish they could live another 2000 years on this earth. Yet they want to end everything here. How inconsistent they could be?
It has nothing to do with what we want. It just how it is. Our atoms remain, but our memories are gone. That scares the hell out of you, not me.
You mean your atoms turned to dust remain. God reanimates your soul just as he

That is quite correct. It's a pagan idea. The Bible definition of a soul is the flesh. The body. In fact, according to the Bible, every living being is a soul and you can kill a soul. So, you have it right.

If every being is just a soul which can be killed, then there is no soul for afterlife, donkey head.

regenerating a "body" in an afterlife realm. What ? You say they

Christers like you don't believe the Bible. Ask any JW what the Bible
teaches about death. Immortality of the soul is a pagan doctrine. And it's
also Satan's first lie to mankind.

We can imagine it. We can't remember it. That's the difference. The
Universe existed before we were born, but we didn't, except for atoms

Yep, four times in surgery, they give you the drugs and bam! time ends,
nothing at all there. You remember getting the drug, fade out ...

... fade in. Nothing in the middle, you didn’t exist. Each case I was
non-existent for three to four hours. Biggest shock was when I was put into
my room (with windows), I knew where the sun was when I was wheeled into
surgery, and now only a few minutes later the sun had moved forty five to
sixty degrees across the sky. Time Travel!

According to Diane when I first came out of surgery in the two cases where
she was there, I responded (with nonsense) when she tried to talk to me right
after I was wheeled into recovery, I don’t remember that, all I do know is
that I can remember existing again, my brain was sort of working again, but
“I” was not the one there but whatever it was was related to me in some
manner. Nothing in reality other than time passing existed. Within a few
minutes I came back and existed again as a person.

My “view”: drug started, count down from one hundred to one “one
hundred, ninety nine, ninety eight, ninetyyyyy....

Oh, hi, Diane, is it over yet.

“Yes, Harry, just like the last three times you asked that."

Same as when I was electrocuted as a teen, one moment working, loud
bang/everything went white to black.

Found myself on the floor hurting all over wondering what happened.

It was close to ten minutes later, I never lived those minutes. Again, Time
Travel!

If anything had gone wrong I never would have woken up and I would never have
noticed anything. Which is why death does not scare me, nothing there, no
time, no space, no wants, no pain, no nothing.

Now dying can be very bad, but dead? No big deal.

Yep, but it's still not something you can imagine. It's just fast-forwarding your consciousness to the end of the gap.

You fall asleep and, subjectively, you immediately wake up.

Sure. It's like being asleep and not dreaming. It's like being unplugged.
Only, you don't wake up. And you have no evidence of anything else after
brain death.

But, your atoms still exist and will eventually become part of something else.
Anything else is scattered all over. So, part of you will still exist, but won't
remember the last life you left. It won't be you mentally. But it will still
be bits of you. Anyone who wants more than that is an egotistical dweeb.

yourself. You literally don’t/never existed. You certainly don’t have a
point of view.

But, your atoms still exist and will eventually become part of something else.
Anything else is scattered all over. So, part of you will still exist, but won't
remember the last life you left. It won't be you mentally. But it will still
be bits of you. Anyone who wants more than that is an egotistical dweeb.
And of course you have no view point on any of this, you are exactly like a
burned out lightbulb, the bulb may still exist, but the light it produced is
“poof” gone.

You step into your time machine and leap into the future...

and the time machine immediately blows up.

Your mangled remains pop into existence a trillion years in the future in
bits and pieces.

But you, the you that you thought of as you, has not existed for a trillion
years, and won’t exist ever again.

And of you there is nothing to care at all.

Some folks just hate it that the universe might go on after them and not give
one single damn.

Too bad.

Can you imagine not existing?
No you can't.
Sure. It's like being asleep and not dreaming. It's like being unplugged.
Only, you don't wake up. And you have no evidence of anything else after
brain death.

Well, you did exist once, but there's no you to ever again remember that.
That drives the religers crazy.

Can you imagine not existing?
Why?
Your body, your organs, you brain, your cells...they are all dead and disintegrated.

Just because you can't imagine it, (and how could you?) Doesn't mean it isn't going to happen.

Why does Mr. Earnest ask questions and then get passed when people answer.

Just because HE can't imagine something doesn't mean it's impossible for others to do so.

I believe he's so dense that light bends around him.

He's dense enough to bend gamma rays.

Can you imagine not existing?
No you can't.
What is this?

Some kind of appeal to ignorance? o_O

"CAN A DOG CONCEPTUALIZE HUMAN-CENTRIC CONCEPTS SUCH AS A
VACATION?"

No!

"ARE VACATIONS REAL, OR, ARE THEY SIMPLY A FIGMENT OF THE
HUMAN IMAGINATION?"

They are real. Although. They can be both. Many people
imagine going on a vacation, but due to life constraints,
never get the opportunity. Nevertheless, vacations are
indeed _real_.

"THEREFORE, CAN WE SAFELY CONCLUDE THAT A LACK OF CONCEPTION
IN ONE MIND, DOES NOT PRECLUDE PROPOSED CONCEPT FROM OCCURING
IN REALITY?"

Why, yes. Yes we can.

Just because we cannot imagine "not- existing", does not
mean that we all go to heaven or hell, just because heaven or
hell are much easier to imagine.

Stop being intellectually lazy!

Get off your "mental bum" and start exercising that brain of
yours -- lest it become bored, and start entertaining
irrational fears and magical thoughts.

"Underdeveloped minds are the play things of mental hobgoblins!"
