Post by Michael OConnorPost by anim8rfskPost by Michael OConnorHere's one that always got me, in the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie,
at the end he turned back time, just far enough to save Lois Lane, but not
far enough to give him enough time to stop the second nuclear missile from
hitting the San Andreas Fault and preventing the earthquake and saving all
the people who died and preventing all the damage that ensued.
Well, that sequence makes no sense, but apparently he *did* go back far
enough to stop the second missile (the original idea was that he tosses
it up and it frees the Phantom Zone prisoners, which became the
beginning of Superman 2). The earthquake *didn't* happen (note that
Lois' car isn't buried any more) although for some reason Jimmy
*remembers* it.
Lois also remembered the earthquake when Superman flew back to her after
turning back time, she mentioned the gas station blowing up and telephone
poles falling around her.
And this brought up another issue I had with the first Superman movie - is
there a limit to how fast Superman can fly? He was obviously faster than the
two missiles because they had a head start on him and he caught the first one
and just missed the second one. Those missiles seemed to be traveling at a
speed much less than the speed of sound, yet he could fly around the world
several times a second when he was turning back time, which I'm guessing was
meant to show that he had to travel at the speed of light in order to turn
back time.
On the other hand, in Superman II, when Lois was in Paris and there were
terrorists who had a nuclear device at the Eiffel Tower, are we to believe
that Superman spent 5-6 hours flying across the Atlantic Ocean to get from
Metropolis to Paris? Or that it takes him hours to fly from Metropolis to
his Fortress of Solitude?
time of day everywhere.
