Wild-eyed cult leader Charles Manson has been hospitalized in California with a bleak prognosis, according to a report Wednesday.

The 83-year-old was brought to a Bakersfield hospital recently, TMZ.com said.

The notorious mass murderer serving seven life sentences in Corcoran State Prison in California has been suffering from health issues for some time.

In January he had to be hospitalized for severe intestinal bleeding. He also needed surgery to repair a lesion but doctors said he was too weak and sent him back to prison.

Since arriving at the Bakersfield facility, Manson’s been getting various treatments around the hospital — always guarded by five cops, TMZ said.

A source familiar with Manson’s condition told the web site “it’s not going to get any better for him.”

The source also added, “it’s just a matter of time,” TMZ said.

Ben Gurecki, who regularly posts prison calls with Manson on his YouTube channel, said Manson admitted he has heart failure.

"I don't believe he will leave the hospital," Gurecki told the Daily News on Wednesday.

"(It's) heart failure," he said. "(His) body is shutting down."

Gurecki said Manson was rushed to Mercy Heart Hospital in last 24 hours -- and before that, he was still in prison.

"He has been saying over and over the past few weeks that he is tired. Over and over, it's very sad," Gurecki said.

"He is going to leave us this time. He is very, very sick," he said. "This is time for prayer."

Manson shocked the world on Aug. 9, 1969, when he directed his protégé Charles Watson to take three female members of his cult — known as the Manson Family — to a posh house above Sunset Blvd. and slaughter everyone there.

The Manson Family members brutally butchered movie director Roman Polanski's heavily pregnant wife Sharon Tate along with celebrity hairstylist Jay Sebring, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, writer Wojciech Frykowski, and visiting teen Steven Parent.

The next night, Manson joined the same four followers along with two more as they broke into the Los Feliz home of supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary.

Manson wanted to show the group the correct way to execute and ordered the LaBiancas bound with lamp cords and their heads covered by pillowcases before the savage stabbing started.

The vicious Manson killings stunned Los Angeles and caused a worldwide sensation.

Manson was tried for the horrific murders and sentenced to death along with several members of his psychopathic gypsy cult. The sentences were commuted to life when the death penalty was briefly outlawed in 1972. Prosecutors said Manson and his followers were trying to incite a race war he believed was suggested in the Beatles’ song “Helter Skelter.”

Found guilty in 1971, Manson has been denied parole a dozen times. His next hearing is scheduled for 2027.

I'm curious what are going to happen to his remains. I remember a year or two back when that woman was wanting to marry him, and IIRC the state Board of Corrections stopped her to denied her any further access (writing, I guess) to Manson because they figured out the only reason she wanted to marry him was so she could have access to his remains once he was dead. There is no telling what she had in mind with his remains.

They certainly can't bury Manson in a marked grave in a public cemetery, as he is such a notorious figure who also has a weird cult following that his grave site would attract a lot of weird people. I don't know what his wishes are, but they don't have much choice other than an unmarked grave or cremation. After all, what happened to Jeffrey Dahmer's body or Richard Speck's body or John Wayne Gacy's bodies when they died? They can't be buried in a public cemetery.

back, his wish was to be cremated and his ashes scattered up on the

Not sure, Okiku - how old are you and where are you from? You could be like the arsonist who returns to the scene of the fire. Maybe some of those guys you mention (and I have heard of them all), are really one guy. Imagine how incredible a champion mass murderer one would have to be to be sought by the law under 3, 4, or even more monickers? How about the unsolved murders committed by mass murderers who are dedicated to privacy, not looking for stardom? Not risking getting caught. Just every week another stranger in another strange town - skidrow material mostly, people nobody cares about. It's the mass murderers who seek fame that get caught, those whose main purpose is to taunt authorities and call attention to themselves. But the copy cat killer, or the super anonymous not-looking-for-fame type, those kinds of guys can go on uncaught for a long time. I know. I know for a fact.

I'd like to see at least one more interview with the one-time demonic now grandfatherly leader of loonies. I find him entertaining. Why pile up on the guy? He's been in jail for years. He's going to die. It's over. Man, seems there are an awful lot of bitter and hateful people around. As for a public or unmarked grave, it doesn't really matter, does it? I don't care what they do with my body when I go. My best friend is buried in a pauper's field with just a tin post with his name over where his body is, or is claimed to be. He didn't care and neither do I. Graveyards are wonderful attractions, some of them, shady and lush, especially the ones with rolling hills. But other than that, who needs them? Grind up the dead bodies and feed it to pets. Ok, not pets, maybe just zoo animals or livestock. Or use as fertilizer. The idea of being planted in a box in the ground all dressed up their Sunday finest with nowhere to go, man, that has always been funny to me.

He didn't care and neither do I. Graveyards are wonderful attractions, some of them, shady and lush, especially the ones with rolling hills. But other than that, who needs them? Grind up the dead bodies and feed it to pets. Ok, not pets, maybe just zoo animals or livestock. Or use as fertilizer. The idea of being planted in a box in the ground all dressed up their Sunday finest with nowhere to go, man, that has always been funny to me.

Oh yeah, hah hah, I am sure of that. Not being able to breathe is probably my biggest fear. But even if they give you a pipe hole for air and blood lines for nutrition it's still going to be hell, especially if the space is so confined that turning over or even sideways is not possible. Saw an Alfred Hitchcock presents show when I was a kid that I always remembered. I saw it again a few weeks ago for the first time since. Maybe had I been older when I had seen it the first time I'd have seen it coming. Maybe not.

A guy in prison is owed a favor by a old trustee who works in the coffin shop and also has a key to the outside graveyard. So he tells the old trustee what he wants: "The next time I get word of someone dying in this joint I'm going to come down here and get into the coffin with him, then you and your boys can nail the lid on and I'm home free. I figure I can live 45 minutes down there, that should give you plenty of time."

The old guy doesn't want to go along with it, but he does owe a favor, so he agrees. Then one day shortly after an inmate dies and the hopeful escapee gets word of it, goes down and crawls into the coffin with the inmate. As they carry the box through the gates to the grave, we see it only from the inside, pitch black, and from outside we hear, "Boy, this guy is heavy." You know, 'cause there's two of them.

Then they shovel the dirt on and leave. He's down there waiting. The camera is on him. He's starting to sweat. He lights a match and looks at his watch. Still plenty of time. Then more time goes by and he lights another match, then another. When he strikes his final match the shroud falls off the guy next to him and it's the old guy who was supposed to dig him up. Imagine how that guy felt down there. What are the chances anyone would piece it together - and even if they did, would it be in time? Well, maybe dying of ultra slow suffocation isn't so bad - like getting really tired maybe - not like being choked out with a rope or a set of really strong hands, kicking and twisting, struggling all the way to the end. No, maybe dying ultra slow from lack of air is a good way to go as you get so tired and weak and sleep that you just sort of slide into it instead of trying vainly to kick your way out.

Wild-eyed cult leader Charles Manson has been hospitalized in
California with a bleak prognosis, according to a report Wednesday.

The 83-year-old was brought to a Bakersfield hospital recently,
TMZ.com said.

The notorious mass murderer serving seven life sentences in Corcoran
State Prison in California has been suffering from health issues for
some time.

In January he had to be hospitalized for severe intestinal bleeding.
He also needed surgery to repair a lesion but doctors said he was too
weak and sent him back to prison.

Since arriving at the Bakersfield facility, Manson’s been getting
various treatments around the hospital — always guarded by five cops,
TMZ said.

A source familiar with Manson’s condition told the web site “it’s not
going to get any better for him.”

The source also added, “it’s just a matter of time,” TMZ said.

Ben Gurecki, who regularly posts prison calls with Manson on his
YouTube channel, said Manson admitted he has heart failure.

"I don't believe he will leave the hospital," Gurecki told the Daily
News on Wednesday.

"(It's) heart failure," he said. "(His) body is shutting down."

Gurecki said Manson was rushed to Mercy Heart Hospital in last 24
hours -- and before that, he was still in prison.

"He has been saying over and over the past few weeks that he is tired.
Over and over, it's very sad," Gurecki said.

"He is going to leave us this time. He is very, very sick," he said.
"This is time for prayer."

Manson shocked the world on Aug. 9, 1969, when he directed his protégé
Charles Watson to take three female members of his cult — known as the
Manson Family — to a posh house above Sunset Blvd. and slaughter
everyone there.

The Manson Family members brutally butchered movie director Roman
Polanski's heavily pregnant wife Sharon Tate along with celebrity
hairstylist Jay Sebring, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, writer
Wojciech Frykowski, and visiting teen Steven Parent.

The next night, Manson joined the same four followers along with two
more as they broke into the Los Feliz home of supermarket executive
Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary.

Manson wanted to show the group the correct way to execute and ordered
the LaBiancas bound with lamp cords and their heads covered by
pillowcases before the savage stabbing started.

The vicious Manson killings stunned Los Angeles and caused a worldwide
sensation.

Manson was tried for the horrific murders and sentenced to death along
with several members of his psychopathic gypsy cult. The sentences
were commuted to life when the death penalty was briefly outlawed in
1972. Prosecutors said Manson and his followers were trying to incite
a race war he believed was suggested in the Beatles’ song “Helter
Skelter.”

Found guilty in 1971, Manson has been denied parole a dozen times. His
next hearing is scheduled for 2027.

Thank you again. I saw that the original post, by That Derek, had
straight quotes ("dumb quotes"?) about half the time, most of them in

If you're serious, your comment reminds me of a true story that happened in Southern California and involved two elderly brothers who lived together in a big house and one of them died and the other one never knew it till a sometimes acquaintance of the dead guy called the cops out of concern. The first thing I thought when I read the report was, "Man, what a great room mate that guy had to be." I mean when he was alive. If you're living with someone and they die and you don't even know it, you know you just lost a great room mate. Quiet and out of the way even while alive.

J.D., I have two Character Settings offered in my reader: US ASCII and
UTF-8. Should I be using one or the other? I think it's important (to me)
to have the right settings though I don't even pretend to have a clue.
But unless I ask, I won't ever know.

I'm not saying that people posting in UTF-8 are "wrong," or at least
not egregiously so. I'm also not saying this is some kind of
important issue. Myself, I just quietly tolerate the UTF-8 coding
though it makes the post a little more difficult to read. If I want
to post a response and quote some of it, I have to take a minute to
Emacs-macro away the UTF-8 encoding. I jumped in only because it was
already being discussed.

It comes down to this: people using traditional, text-based
newsreaders see messed-up text when you post in UTF-8. People using
"modern" GUI or browser-based newsreaders see ASCII stuff just fine.
UTF-8 breaks a lot of stuff where ASCII plays nice. The obvious
response is, "Well, why don't those dinosaurs just upgrade?" ... but
GUI newsreaders are a serious downgrade in functionality, and Google
Groups is a downgrade compared to *anything* (including smoke signals
and cuneiform hacked into clay tablets).

The only real plus you get from UTF-8 is an extended character set
where the " and ' marks are curvy instead of straight. Wooo-ooo-
ooo-oooh! If you're posting in a non-English newsgroup where they
use a non-Latin character set, it's quite a different story. But
this isn't one of those groups.

I will add that if you're typing your own text using only characters that
appear on a regular US keyboard - i.e. not quoting upthread posts,
copy-n-pasting, or using keyboard tricks to create "special" characters -
it makes no difference to anyone else if your newsreader is set to UTF-8,
because all you're giving it is 7-bit ASCII anyway, and in UTF-8, 7-bit
ASCII is "encoded" as 7-bit ASCII. Setting it to UTF-8 may make other
people's posts read more cleanly.

Wordwrap doesn't work on stuff coming from Googlegroups. Google
introduced that about 3 years ago and haven't fixed it. If I want to
read the post the easiesd way to do so is to repost it, which I will
do until Google fix their brioken editor.
