Discussion:
Filth on aus.rail

Furthering on from my previous comments about the need for moderation
in Railpage, I'm appalled at the racist, sexist and biggoted filth
that is appearing here in aus.rail.

What sort of individual posts this filth?

I suspect that this individual has been banned from Railpage (and
rightly so), and is now hell bent on destroying a useful communication
tool between railfans.

Is there no way we can stop this individual? I hope so, maybe getting
aus.rail shut down is an option?

I believe most meaningful discussion has been moved to Railpage.

In my mind this individual has broken Federal laws and should be
reported to the Federal Police.

Go ahead, make our day. I read perhaps one message in ten on here, the
rest are from known garbage sources.

You're welcome to do so. However, I think you'll find that (a) it will
be difficult to contact anyone in the Federal Police who understands the
technology, and (b) that if and when you do contact such a person, they
will tell you that there is no practical way of determining who the
poster is, given that he's posting through an anonymising service
running in Holland. He would have to do something bad enough to get the
Dutch authorities to lean on the service provider, to make them start
tracking accesses, which they don't currently do, or so they claim. Mere
abuse, obscenity and racial insults won't cut it.

I have already done so to ACMA. ACMA is the regulator for internet usenet
news groups. They did something in the short term, but these unknown skum
who post offensive stuff here just change there computer and ID and it makes
it impossible to find I suspect it is someone who is from Railpage who
cannot get away with this driible there so they come to usenet to cause
havoc!

I think we know all of his alliases that he uses.
You just have to follow the pattern of the posts.
The other day I was just checking out the Google version of Aus.rail and
checked a number of profiles this person uses.
Each indicated the account was banned.
But that showed he only had to create a new profile and could also post
through other means such my self.
At least he has been identified as posting through some kind of Dutch based
service which narrows the search down a little.

If this person was arrested, I'd say that several charges for various
offences could be thrown at this person.
I think a good way to stop such a person is first to try and track down
their IP address.
Then use government controlled service to attach some kind of electronic
banned tag with the IP address and post it world wide to ISPs, Web Server
administrators, Search Engines and what ever.
Oh I should point out that I don't think this person just abuses aus.rail.
They do post to other news groups.

It would be interesting to learn what the general public who don't have any
interest in news groups and blogs would actually think of such a person.
I'd say that most would probably say that this person should get a life.
Common some of us would go for days with out posting, not some rubbish just
about every day or against every post that we send.

I would rather not feed the troll, but I reckon rather than get a
life, he should be seeking medical attention, and hopefully get
better. He's clearly not well...

It would be interesting to learn what the general public who don't have any interest in trains would actually think of train spotters who post crap in the internet. I'd say that most would probably say that these people should get a life. Train spotters are the only flith on aus.rail.
