Quite a while, I believe you can still buy a VCR new. I've seen Beta
machines listed for a lot less than $500 lately as well.

I have an unopened beta porn tape that my father bought in Canberra for
someone else in the days when that is where you bought them.

Bought a nice Panasonic VHS HiFi machine last year at Vinnies rather
than repair my old one to transfer a few tapes.
Not a bad buy for $10 :-)
Must get around to transferring a couple more tapes though before it's
belts decay as well.

You'd be pretty desperate and stupid to pay $500 for *ANY* VCR though IMO!

How do you transfer VHS to a what you are transferring to?
For some reason I could never do it, the VHS picture is faulty through
the computer.
I suspect Sony VHS players work differently to others, that stabilising
feature that I can't remember what it is.

If you're using the composite output, perhaps try the RF output
if you have a suitable capture card. Or vise versa if you're using
the RF output already.

As I (vaguely) remember it, a timebase corrector should help fix
such problems rather than cause them. In any case, borrowing
another machine would be much easier than trying to find an
external timebase corrector to use.

Have you Adobe Premier Pro? Dump all into this and start re
mastering. Very tedious though.

I have a VHS/DVD combo machine and so I just play the tape and record to
DVD, then put the DVD into the PC and load into editing software from
that. I also use one of these
