Looking for opinions on the track drive yardman snowblower thats offered
for $1599 seems like a good snowblower heated grips, track drive, 10hp
and warranty for 4 years! anyone pick one up? hows the track drive
system working out?

Not speaking from experience, but my friend just bought a track drive
snowblower, and claims its awesome.
The fact it has a 4 year warranty is awesome.
Hence, while I would not really buy a yardsworks, I do think this is a
reasonable buy considering warranty and track system.

I bought one 3 weeks ago....I love it! The track system is great, in
fact if you don't have the auger engaged the machine will climb the
snowbank! I only had a few minor adjustments to make when I got it
home, the "coupling cable" (I think thats what it is called....) was
very loose on mine and therefor the drive system wouldn't engage as it
should. Also I had a bit of trouble with the power steering in
reverse ( only one track would spin) however that turned out to be
just a quick cable adjustment also... All in all it's a great
machine...Heated grips and headlight are nice touches....

I wouldn't buy any track driven snowblower unless it was a Honda... keep in
mind these things..

You have extra traction, definitely

1. With extra traction means extra strain on the drive train/engine
2. More traction means extra strain on the augers and impellers due to the
fact that you can push harder into the drifts.

I own a 10.5HP/30" Yardworks, with the normal SnowHog wheels... nice
snowblower but it isn't built like a Honda or even a snowblower from "back
in the day". The body is made from lightweight metal and feels very
"flimsy" to me...I wouldn't want tracks on mine, I would prefer the wheels
to spin when the going gets really than to have it "dig in"...I take my time
with my snowblower and ease into the drifts, by doing this my snowblower
will last a lot longer. These Yardworks don't have the power to really
throw the snow clear when the going gets tough

Honda's can have tracks on them because, well has anyone seen a Honda
snowblower throw snow? You can bury these things and the still throw snow
like nothing else..

Just my two cents... take it for what its worth... If you really want to go
with a Yardworks then keep your extra $400 and buy the wheeled version. If
you have the $1599 to spend on a snowblower then don't buy a Yardworks, go
get an Ariens (sp?) of the same HP and cut...

You get used to the track drive after a while. I got a Honda - the
smallest one I could buy and it chews through snow twice its height no
problem. People told me the tracks would tend to climb the snow but I
haven't really had that problem. Just a little pressure forward if it
looks like it wants to and it digs in and it's fine.

If you expect to be blowing snow for the next 20 years, I'd buy the
Honda over a Yardman. Worth the extra few bucks now.

I have one of these that I got back in 1993, paid around $800.00 for it new, only had to replace the drive belts. a little tip, to move it when it is not running you have hold left and right triggers down to move it, works grate with grate with very little efford
