Discussion:
Windows 7 No Boot after KB4093118
(too old to reply)

I've been unable to install the April security rollup for Windows 7
SP1 32-bit (KB4093118). The update appears to install normally, but
the PC fails to boot upon restart. System recovery launches, but
startup repair is unable to fix whatever has gone wrong. The only way
I've been able to recover from this successfully is to run system
restore from the recovery environment. This issue is repeatable; I've
attempted to install the update three times now, trying to eliminate
potential causes.

AV is disabled during the update process. Running SFC from Windows
command prompt reveals no errors.

Anyone ever run into this snag?

Thanks!

Was that the original KB4093118 from around 12 April or its replacement
from 23 April?

First you say you do, and then you don't.
And then you say you will, but then won't.
You're undecided now, so what're you goin' to do?

That should be Donald Trump's theme song. He obviously
does not understand "commitment", whether it is about
policy or marriage.

Thanks for the reply. I don't recall what the date was the first time
I attempted to install it, but the second time was during the latter
part of the month of April. The third time was on May 3rd. Same
result on each attempt.

P.S.

I already tried deleting the update files from
%windir%\SoftwareDistribuition\Download, so I should be dealing with
fresh files released after 23 April.

My Win 7 (64-bit) PC boots fine after KB4093118 but then a minute or so
later it blue-screen and spontaneously reboots. I've added this update to my
list of updates which are hidden and so not offered except as optional. I
had to revert to a saved System Restore point (thank goodness I hadn't
deleted it).

I thought it was just my PC but it looks like the problem is more
widespread.

I didn't know that MS released different updates (eg original and bug-fixed)
with the same KB number - makes it difficult to know which one you are going
to get.
