I find bizarre and awful - to say the least - that Steyn makes no mention of how mental illness could easily have been the PRIMARY reason for what Paddock did.

1) Only if we took the entirely reasonable stand that anyone who wants to
buy a guy is nuts and should be denied eligibility simply on that account.
An entirely reasonable position, but not one that will ever happen in the USA.
