Hey there looks like the news group has surrendered to the Forums.
But in Mageia 5RC I happened to read the package list and found
an Angband listing. I love to play but am rotten at something that
fills character graveyards.
This version of the game is unlike the last I played in that
the stores will not buy anything from the character

The game presently permits very simple minded resurrection by
simply quitting the game when a character dies then when you restart
the last saved version of the character is brought back on stage.
Saruman of Many Colors and a nasty little balisk have cooked my turkey
twice on the same level. I did lose Taratol the fine mace because i
failed to save it after attainment.

That change is one of my instigation. You can thank or curse me for that.

Do you miss lugging useless stuff back to town just to sell it?

That is very sad. Playing on after death is a good way to practice,
but a terrible way to play. It really ought to mark you as a cheater
for the duration of the game.

Saruman is out of your league. You should be detecting, and immediately
leaving any level where you detect him. Recall to town and back if
stairs and/or trapdoors are not convenient. Heck, any unique 20+ levels
out of depth is a reason to reset the level if you aren't sure you know
better.

Bought from a store.
d) a Ring of Protection [+10]
Bought from a store.
Did these protect you from Saruman or the Basilisk?

Rings of protection were mostly useless in 3.0, and were made even more
useless in 3.2 or 3.3. Any protection lower than +50 is probably less
useful than a +1 stat ring or anything that gives melee bonuses.

I'm a bit sad about it, because it softens the blow of finding something
awesome that's unusable for @, because at least you could sell it for
$$$.

But I think it's probably an improvement on balance.
