Post by Per JessenPost by PeterPost by Per JessenPost by PeterPost by Per JessenPost by PeterPost by Per JessenI know I have asked this before, sorry - how do I
install/activate tooltips for openoffice documents, including
thumbnail, document
author and last changed date? We're migrating some desktops to 13.1
and people are missing this feature.
Download the kde-odf-thumbnail package from the KDE:Extra repo.
Then check it in the Dolphin / Konqueror prefs -> General ->
Previews.
Thanks, much appreciated. I can't help wondering why this package
isn't part of the standard install.
Second question - in the tooltip itself, how do I go about altering
the contents? We would like to get rid of "Generator", but
have "Author" and "Last changed" added. BTW, if anyone is
listening, this is exactly the kind of tiny seemingly innocent
changes that really annoy people and make them resist migration.

Post by PeterIn this case, there are two things you can configure. Either you can
simply right-click on the Information panel in Dolphin (go to
Control... Panels and tick Information, or press F11 if it isn't
showing by default. Then click Configure... You'll find 'Author' is
replaced by 'Creator' and 'Last changed' equates to 'Modified'. I
believe there used to be separate configurability for the
Information panel and the tooltips but it seems that's now unified
into one, so what you affect for the panel is reflected in the
tooltip.
You can also right-click on a relevant ODF file, go to Properties,
then click the Information tab and Configure... from where there are
some options, although on my machine I don't see Creator in the list
for an ODT file.
Peter, many thanks, you've been really helpful. I don't quite have
the options you're mentioning though - I have "Modified", but no
"Author"
nor "Creator". Instead I see Generator (seems useless) and number of
pages and number of words, the latter I would like to remove.
Is this after clicking 'Configure...' on the right-click menu on the
Information panel? There, I have options such as 'Creator', 'Page
Count' and 'Words' in the list of checkboxes, so I'm able to select
the former and unselect the other two if desired.

Post by PeterI'm on KDE 4.11.x from the standard OSS repo, I don't know if there
would be any difference using 4.14 or whatever else. In addition I
have Postscript/PDF, Text Files and others selected under Dolphin's
preview options. Not sure if that has any effect.
I don't have text files enabled, otherwise plain vanilla opensuse 13.1.
Right, just to get this straight. I don't mean to sound like I'm
treating you like an idiot, but I've realised what I typed could still
be misleading. In your posted image, the options in the highlighted
'Configure Shown Data' dialog equate roughly to what I get when I click
the green Configure... text in the Information tab of the file
properties dialog, as shown darkened to the left in your image. *But*,
if I right-click on the pane at the far-right of the Dolphin window,
i.e. the beige area underneath your thumbnail of a black hand (and
whilst having selected an ODF file), then click the Configure option
from the resulting context menu, I get more options in the 'Configure
Shown Data' dialog.
If you cannot get the 'Creator' checkbox from either of those places
then I'm afraid I don't know what's up. Maybe try selecting all of the
available options, OK the dialog and go back to it, maybe after
restarting Dolphin, perhaps it would present more, like pitying someone
who's licked their plate clean in a Chinese restaurant. Highly unlikely
but I'm stumped for another answer.
I'm trying to figure out how you come to have gaps in your grid of file
icons. I assume you've edited the image to hide something confidential,
else that's really weird.
My only other thought is that it could be something missing from some
language pack. I have en-GB installed. I wonder if the extra options
could have been mistakenly omitted from default or US English, if that's
what you have?
