Has anyone read Taylor Varga ?

https://excessverbosity.wordpress.com/fiction-2/fanfiction-list/tv-intro/

Is this worth reading at 1.7 million words ? Kinda sounds like a female
super hero story.

Apparently the answer is "yes" -- see

Warning: the sub-thread may contain spoilers for "Taylor Varga" and
the Web serial "Worm", which "TV" is based on. As we discovered during
the last discussion, "TV" assumes basic familiarity with "Worm".

Thanks, that is where I saw the reference. I forgot to hat tip that.

Yes, I have read it. It is pretty much played for laughs, though I
consider it to be very readable. I recommend anyone to try the first
three to five chapters. If you don't like it, drop it, though the
writing does improve.

I am about 75% through. Apart from some clunky "said-ism", it's nearly
delightful.

I'm not sure anyone who hasn't read Worm would be quite so amused by
it, though.

I think a view was taken that you actually don't need
to, whatever is "assumed", although setting details
from _Worm_ will be easier to appreciate if familiar.

But it seemed to be more the opposite - if you've read
_Worm_ then you ought to read _Taylor Varga_ to get
over it. Although you do have a taste for apocalypse
survival tales. _Worm_ seems to be more non-survival...

I haven't read Worm, and I enjoyed Taylor Varga. OTOH I have read a
lot of Worm fanfic, so the setting wasn't strange to me.

I am reading it based on the mention here. It is nice when someone
saves all our favourite protagonists, but my WSOD is being
destroyed by the fact that people in story are actually laughing at
_these_ jokes.

In terms of necro threads over 30+ years old, this thread is just a

And your point is?

But perhaps you are like one of my brothers, who regards any software
program not updated in the last six months as "outdated" and would
regard one not updated for five years as "abandonware", if not
"obsolete".

Note that none of those judgements have anything to do with how well
the program works.

People reanimating old threads are frequently unaware that
they are doing so. I think its helpful to point out what they've done,
since many or most of the original participants are long gone, and
won't read or respond.

There was a different Taylor Varga thread recently... here, just at the end of last year. One wonders the mechanism the reviving poster used to choose between them. Is this another thing that will disappear when replying to found usenet discussions is no longer an option on the web?

Perhsps software that automatically presents
that information would be a good thing.
Of course, the dates are shown, but that is
easily overlooked.

If commenting, it could be polite to say
something more about the discussion topic,
while writing. But I have not, although
I think I made one or more good points
in 2018. Please see, :-)

I actually like that. The story does not take itself seriously in the
slightest. I am casually reading Taylor Varga a second time, having
bounced off Worm for now.
