I've never had one of those. I get chances to meet with hot Russian
females, or to enlarge parts of my anatomy which I don't have, but I get
very little spam anyway.

Is there any chance you (Mike) might have signed up for such a testing
programme? Does Chris get them too? Do these offers have an opt-out
clause near the end - usually the advice is not to click on those, but
you could research the firm concerned (if they're all from the same
company!), to see if it _is_ something you could have signed up for.
(Some of the companies that tout for this sort of business can be, let's
say, somewhat deceptive.)

No, never signed up for nothing, not no how, not never - and have never
provided them with the satisfaction of knowing they have been received at a
legit address by 'opting out' either!. Mrs. McToodles doesn't get them at

Years and years ago I managed to set up an ntlworld spam filter, which by
some means still works, but virgin doesn't care a monkeys. I get very
little junk still whereas he!/ deluged with supermarket shopping type ones.

Certainly not signed up to anything, and some supermarkets we don't even
use more than once in a less than blue moon.

I find gmail very good at blocking spam. Also very easy to attach all other
email accounts to it and suck all down to gmail via their spam net to gmail

I never see purchase related spam in my gmail account. But when I've

I do. If it's unsolicited, and you didn't opt in to receiving it, then
it's spam.

That, as others have said, is due to cookies and other tracking

How do you buy things with your gmail account (genuine question) ?

I receive notifications for purchases from e.g. Amazon on my gmail
account but I don't recall ever seeing spam relating to such purchases.

I have a gmail account that I can access on my tablet and phone and
therefore use when travelling. It just mirrors my proper account and I
never see spam on it - I do get an awful lot of email from companies
I've bought from in the past, but Gmail kindly sticks it in a folder
called 'promotions' which I periodically clear out, ditto with the
'social' folder which is mostly notifications of birthdays from Facebook.

The folders come with the latest version of Gmail. I've just set up a

One of the kinds of emails I get is from any charity I've donated to.
They email at once asking for more and then at intervals too. I give
what I can when i feel I want to and get annoyed by repeated requests.
I don't think fb is the source of any spam I get, which is almost
none. It's just emails from organisations I have supported with money
or sharing their posts.

I use gmail and agent and not much gets through those.

+1 (or more)!

However, some companies/organisations use FB as a significant part of
their internet existence - even some BBC local radio stations: "visit
our facebook page". Yes, you can view Facebook pages without being a
member, but they're irritating.

attend.

Given my status I did not consider it unreasonable to use the
unsubscribe feature at the bottom of the marketing communication.

And today they sent me another one, so I have unsubscribed again.

What odds am I offered on being mailed next month?

Talking of which I am a member of a professional institution but now pay
the "retired" members rate. They kept sending me reminders about the
need to enhance my professional knowledge with details of courses to
attend.

I have let my IET membership lapse, but am still interested in
talks and visits, so happily registered for their updates. What
is irritating is that, although you can select from a number of
different sectors of interest, it is not possible to say "don't
send me anything about paid events".

I keep an eye on their web site, and also those of the IMechE and
ICE for matters of interest, and have recently visited:

Hope Cement Works
Glastonbury Festival site
Laing O'Rourke Concrete Products at Explore Industrial Park
Wymeswold Solar Farm
Bardon Hill Quarry

Linked in puts up a fight. Ten years on. Folk are still asking to link
with me. Grrrr
I have either lost or forgotten my login so cannot remove myself.
Don't the emails contain something you can click on that includes your
login identity (i. e. if clicked will try to log you in as you), and you
can then use the "forgotten password" link?

Or does that involve receiving an email at an address you no longer
have?

Pretty sure I tried that, but I am aware that I exist twice on their
database for some strange reason and nothing seemed to solve it.

Probably time to try again as they are so persistent.

I do get an awful lot of email from companies I've bought from in the past,
IME, the worst "offender" in this respect is Thompson & Morgan. Not a
day goes by without an e-mail from them.
But if you mark them as spam on gmail, they will go into your spam filter
which you can empty at your convenience, or elsewhere.
I could tell TB to divert them to Spam or I could even tell T & M to
stop sending them! ... but then I might miss an offer I DID want to know
about.

Their paper catalogues are just garden porn.

Is there an unsubscribe from the list button at the end of the email?

Wofe informs me that "Unsubscribe" is effective with T&M.

I have several email accounts. All my spam comes in to my gmail account,
and much of it relates to things I have bought using that account, which
makes me very suspicious of gmail.
How do you buy things with your gmail account (genuine question) ?
I think Sally meant she'd _used_ her gmail address when purchasing - not
using it to pay or anything, just giving it as the address to e. g. send
confirmation, dispatch, and tracking emails to. (Most - all, I think -
online selling companies won't let you buy without giving an email
address of some sort.)

I find gmail very good at blocking spam. Also very easy to attach all other
email accounts to it and suck all down to gmail via their spam net to gmail
inbox.

I receive an inordinate number of emails I consign to the Junk folder that
offer me the chance to 'test then keep' all manner of appliances (domestic
ones Brrittski!) and I wonder if otherats get these and has anyrat followed
them up please?
I've never had one of those. I get chances to meet with hot Russian
females, or to enlarge parts of my anatomy which I don't have, but I get
very little spam anyway.
I haven't had any of those for a long time. These days it's mainly
things I've won in UK supermarket chains (chirality not specified).
