4.0. really fun, if a bit silly.

Great casting on Christie - the words "unconventially beautiful" were
invented for that woman. *

* PV something like badgers--something like lizards--and something
like corkscrews.

Oh, but doesn't that describe the series pretty well over the
years? I have to give it a 4.75 for the same reasons. Being a great
Christie fan myself doesn't hurt 8-)

Isn't the only reason anyone would ever dust their remote is because
they had something to hide? Look for the person with a freshly dusted

Ooooh, good thinking.

I mean... what would we be dusting my remote for anyway? My fingerprints?

And I say "yay for Brit tv!". She was so convincing as
Agatha Christie. And not classicly beautiful and yet, so
beautiful in her own right! I looked the actress up in
IMDB, and noticed that she has played Chrisie in other
shows. Does anyone know if she actually resembles the real
Agatha?

C

(ps, she reminds me of Penelope Keith, brit actress from
"To the Manor Born" and I think many other brit comedies.
Does anyone know if she might be related???)

I wondered the same thing! Fenella Woolgar very much reminded
me of Penelope Keith, but I haven't been able to find anything
about her family. I assume the British fans would know if she
were related to Keith, and would have said something by now.

There's a picture here:

I don't see much of a resemblance. Their face shapes are quite
different.

That sucks, they could at least air the full episode late in the night
or something, do they air the full episodes on BBC America when they
finally get their chance to show it? I notice that Doctor WHo is never
made available on demand like Torchwood, that's the only why I watch
it otherwise 10 or 15 minutes is missing.

Given the title and the fact that a giant wasp appeared early in the
episode, I expected to see an actual horse with a horn sticking out of
the center of its forehead. Why did the BBC waste the name "Unicorn" on
a human jewel thief when it could have used it on a horse with a horn
(perhaps an alien hostile to the wasp), which it could have used to kill
that wasp?

quagmire - without any help at all from the liberals and the left - so why
don;t you just bog off out of it?!!!

Given the title and the fact that a giant wasp appeared early in the
episode, I expected to see an actual horse with a horn sticking out of
the center of its forehead. Why did the BBC waste the name "Unicorn" on
a human jewel thief when it could have used it on a horse with a horn
(perhaps an alien hostile to the wasp), which it could have used to kill
that wasp?
It struck me as a stupid name for a cat burgler.
She was a jewel thief, not a cat thief.
Pussy Galore was a gem in the James Bond series.

In anyone else the merging of "in" and "to" to make "into" would be
judged Freudian slippage.

In Yads it's just par for the course.

I'm always surprised that women want men. I'm amazed we don't lose them
the minute they find out about sex.

The more I think about it, the more heterosexual women seem to be a mystery.

Well, gender and orientation differences are something we can't
completely fathom. Regardless of being men and women we can understand
what so many common bodily sensations are like, but differences in how
we feel sexually are perhaps permanently unfathomable unless someone
builds an artificial mind meld machine.

Did you ever see the old movie "Brainstorm" with Christopher Walken and
Natalie Wood in her last screen role? It's from around 25 years ago. The
plot is they are husband and wife and work on a project to build such a
mind reading/recording device. At one point Walken's character uses it
to record himself remembering all the happiest times of their marriage
so he can tell her how much he loves her because their marriage is
coming apart over their project. Predictably after she puts the headset
on, replays his memories she tosses it off and they fall onto the bed,
presumably for some make-up sex. I always thought if such a device
existed it would be more interesting for a couple to record their
lovemaking and then afterwards switch and hit playback. I wonder what
would happen if ever have such a device. I wonder if we will all flip
out if we find out if it's radically different for men vs women. And not
just sex, what if men were to playback a tape of what menstrual cramps
feel like? Or women learn how bad it hurts to get kicked in the balls?
Will new fathers get asked to experience the pain for childbirth
vicariously? Talk about a cultural earthquake thanks to technology!

Honestly, I can't get my mind around the fact that your gender (or
some percentage of my own, for that matter) would even consider having
sex with men while there were women around.

I'm even kinda gay.
Kinda gay? Does that mean you are bi, or that you are gay but like the
one eyed snake once in a while?
Mostly bi.
I prefer men, but I can't for the life of me see how anyone can not
like women. Want women. That makes no sense to me.
Honestly, I can't get my mind around the fact that your gender (or
some percentage of my own, for that matter) would even consider having
sex with men while there were women around.
Not that I'm ungrateful.

Given the title and the fact that a giant wasp appeared early in the
episode, I expected to see an actual horse with a horn sticking
out
of
the center of its forehead. Why did the BBC waste the name
"Unicorn"
on
a human jewel thief when it could have used it on a horse with a horn
(perhaps an alien hostile to the wasp), which it could have used
to
kill
that wasp?
It struck me as a stupid name for a cat burgler.
She was a jewel thief, not a cat thief.
Pussy Galore was a gem in the James Bond series.

The jewel thief called himself the Unicorn. He never pretended that he was
actually a unicorn. The word was not wasted and no "actual unicorn" was
either necessary or required for the story.

Among the many groups this is crossposted to, I don't see a .uk
group. The title may have some reference understandable by them.
It reminds me of the "Lion and the Unicorn" rhyme used in Lewis
Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass. That book did have an
unpublished chapter with a wasp, but it's not well known... The
L and U are heraldic symbols, supporting the crest of Great
Britain, hence the nursery rhyme I don't know any wasps used
heraldically, and a quick web search doesn't turn up anything.

It could be, as George implies, one of those picture-signs put on
boards outside taverns that allow the illiterati of times past to
discuss where they would dine in the evening.

For some reason, Fable just popped into my mind. A quick web
search doesn't turn one up, but I've thought of the outline of
one with an ease that makes me think I've read it before:
It ends with the Unicorn saying he would not be so brave if he
knew he would lose his horn with the first attack, and the Wasp
replies, "I might not have been so brave, either."

So Agatha Christie did indeed write a novel featuring a giant wasp! Although the death of the giant wasp's fire gem gave her amnesia, something did bleed through.
