For some reason put me into the helmet gloves and bike and I'll risk
anything to make progress recently. Stupid stuff which I won't write as
it looks boastfull and hope that others have experienced this weird
almost suicidal YKWIM risk taking. I had a death in the family
recently but the motorcycle seems to be both a huge release from stress
but also a massive head fuck in risk taking.

Anyone else experienced how long this lasts or if it's even normal.

Which probably isn't the best place to be acting the cunt, especially

A self-destructive episode is very common under stress, especially if
someone close to you has died and what you thought was your
(relatively) rock steady psychological state gets knocked off kilter as
it readjusts. Being conscious of the phenomenon it is your
responsiblity to exercise greater control of your impulses until
normality is resumed.

I just made all that up. If it doesn't work for you just carry on and
normality will be resumed anyway at some point under Darwin's Law.

I've noticed recently that my commuting has become more "assertive";
more revs, more noise, closer "squeezing", putting air between my front
tyre and the ground after every junction.

Is this healthy Dr porl? Or is it a result of the mass-decentralisation
as a consequence of fitting a top-box [1]?

[1] I have a theory that the current work on mass-centralisation of
motorcycles can only lead to black holes, so it is imperative on a
number of us to decentralise the mass of our motorcycles to maintain
galactic equilibrium

What, "almost suicidal risk taking"?
I would want to know how motorcyclists cope with the thing i'm going
through, that anyone goes through once and again. It's already a death
trap and yet it's not, add in a lot of stress and the bike becomes a
high stakes poker game (I was going to say Craps ). But it's also a
huge relief being out with nobody talking and nothing but the bike an
yourself then it reverses into a situation.

Along with your desire to emulate WC by absorbing every catchphrase,
meme and "tough boy" personality trait in ukrm you also seem to be
losing (if you ever had it) the capacity to understand fairly basic
English. I didn't say dealing with emotional problems involved slowing
down or wakling carefully. It really couldn't be more clear. So you're

Nurses, eh? My last experience of a nurse was the one that gently
stroked my (albeit tiny) dick all through my vasectomy. I presume it was
supposed to distract me from the immense pain of having my balls hacked
about with a scalpel. It didn't work.

And anyway, stop tallking about me, you bastards.

Well I certainly felt that way at the time, but it's quite possible
that, had I been unconcious, I wouldn't have been breathing either.
And given that it was perhaps a half-hour before a doctor[1] arrived I
might well have been dead. As it was it took a huge conscious effort
to overcome the pain and draw breath, so perhaps I was better off that
way.

Important distinction in terminology here - I was never unconcious, on
either occasion. I just had concussion.

In the first accident, a friend sat with me at the side of the road,
waiting for the ambulance. I have no memory of that day from
breakfast until the hospital.

On the second occasion, at Oulton, I was 'awake' but...well, lets say
that Suze put her head round the door of the ambulance and said "Hi
Champ". Apparently the look on my face said "Champ's not in right now.
Please leave a message after the tone...."

Quite. Dunno if the mental state of 'concussed' can be sufficiently
aware to make such decisions.

In medical/first aid terms you almost certainly were 'unconcious'
which is defined as having 'reduced or absent response to stimuli'.
Doesn't mean you have to have been completely blacked out.

But yes, I know what you're saying.

have any more than basic first-aid training - certainly no paramedics
on board.
That wouldn't have happened in the UK.
In a relatively rural area I think it might have been as long until
'proper' care arrived. The fact that the local Sapeurs Pompiers were
there before the doctor arrived, and to be honest I've no idea how
long it took, doesn't in itself point to a poor service. And the
helicopter was there soon afterwards too. Called from another country,
which is an interesting example of cross-boarder cooperation.

[1] The crews of the two ambulances that did arrive didn't seem to
have any more than basic first-aid training - certainly no paramedics
on board.

What have miffed public schoolboys got to do with it?

It would've probably been hours before a UK, and especially Welsh,
ambulance turned up: at least there would've been a paramedic on board
though.

Well apart from not being able to upgrade Firefox at work and thus
being able to use the ignore thingy, there's the fact that although
newbies get their heads bitten off for the slightest transgression; the
entire yank population get constantly ridiculed for being idiotic; all
cage drivers are morons, etc, there is a suspicious leniency in ukrm
itself.
The dual standard is so suffocating at times that if I'm the only one
who is petty enough to tell these pointless cocks to make an effort or
stfu then so be it. It's a war that can't be won, but it's one that
should be occasionally fought. Frankly, it's no different from the

childish expression "No, you are".

Quiting smoking is the closest i've come to it before, you want to stop
but also, fuck it.
It is perfectly normal.

If you really must, carefully look about your person. There should be
two dials, one is labeled immortality and the other invincibility.

Normally these are set midrange, however they can be thrown out by
events and clearly this has happened in this case.

Sometimes one of the dials is hard to locate, just set the other one a
couple of notches lower to compensate.

Quiting smoking is the closest i've come to it before, you want to stop
but also, fuck it.
When you realise you're taking stupid risks, pull over somewhere, take
a little stroll and remind yourself that your recently deceased
relation/friend, would really not want you to kill yourself on your
bike... And then remember the last time you saw them really
laughing... Works for me...

He's fine as long as the beer keeps flowing. Actually a quite amusubg
drinking partner, even if he doesn't actually laugh much.

Admittedly it took me 3 attempts at meeting him to realise I'd met him

Not as much of a sweetie as Paul Corfield, mind, but then who is?

[1] I don't mean to imply he's forgettable, merely that my memory then
was at its absolute worst, due to my brain chemistry being fucked beyond
all measure as a result of alcohol & drug "misuse" [2]
[2] daft term: I mean, you're using it in the way it's supposed to be
used, so how can that be misuse?

That's what I think. In fact, something someone said, (plus some
downtime during a storm a couple of weeks ago), encouraged me to write
a list of people in ukrm, split in 3 columns. Those I liked and
respected, those I liked but didn't respect and those that I respected
but didn't like. Carmers was definitely in the first group.
I was actually surprised at how many were in the groups altogether. Not
even including dead ones.
