GHOST ADVENTURES:SCREAMING ROOM:
"Descent Into Darkness". It's pedal to the metal as Zak and the guys review
their iconic underground investigation into a famed Route 66 destination –
the Grand Canyon Caverns

I was tired from my workout and nothing interesting was on so I went to bed.

What did you watch?

Yeah, if you'd said DINOSAUR CAVERNS I'd have known what you meant. Been
through them, and there's not a hint of a trace of a whisper of a connection
to dinosaurs outside of the gift shop. :)

On the other hand I've never heard of Peach Springs (unless it's where I got
my imaginary friend's nom de plume from). I question how there can be
'springs' near something fabled for not having a drop of moisture near it in
the last 345 million years.

Route 66 made it a ghost town! It's a TV related tie-in!

I watched:

Stargirl - "Brainwave Jr." - I was forced to stream this from the CW
website. This episode picks up where last week ended with Brainwave Jr.
learning about his powers while reluctantly teaming up with the heroes.
This was a very good episode. I still don't know why it didn't air.
Through various means, I've been trying to contact my local CW station
to just ask someone, but so far I've had *no* luck in reaching a human
or getting any response.

Agents of SHIELD - "As I Have Always Been" - The mandatory groundhogs
day episode that *all* sci-fi shows are required to do if they are on
the air long enough. This was a pretty good one.

Stargate SG-1 (Season 10 DVD)

"Family Ties" – Vala’s estranged conman father (Fred Willard) asks for
sanctuary on Earth and once settled in promptly starts doing various
cons on people. At the start of the episode they broke the 4th wall and
referenced an unnamed tv show unexpectedly being cancelled. This
explains why they spent so much of this season spinning their wheels
instead of moving the plot forward. I guess it also explains why they
didn't bother to wrap up the storyline. Although I think by this point,
they did know they would be making the movie since it was referenced in
"200." Also more 4th wall breaking when they talk about the "Stargate
program not getting the respect it deserves" after all it's done for
this "network of planets" and when asked why, another character shouts,
"Eureka." Yeah, not exactly subtle!

"Dominion" - SG-1 tries to capture Adria, but Ba'al has other plans.
This was a good one.

"Unending" – Season 10 finale. Not exactly a time loop, but SG-1 does
get trapped in a time bubble where they grow old while the rest of the
universe is moving slower through time. Solid series finale, even
though it didn't wrap anything up. On the commentary they said they
didn't expect the show to end. The cast had deals for season 11 and
they were building up to a cliffhanger. But because they were suddenly
cancelled, they had to write the season finale in a hurried panic. The
movie is basically season 11.

Stargate: The Ark of Truth (DVD) Stargate movie that takes all of what
would have been season 11 condensed into a made for TV movie. It was
better than I remembered, but I'm still not sure what to make of
shoehorning in the replicators. And the "arc of the truth" did feel a
little like deus ex machina. But at least they wrapped everything up.

The ep guide said to switch back to Atlantis for a while.

Stargate Atlantis (Season 3 DVD)

"First Strike" – Season finale. Earth's newest battleship arrives with
plans to launch a first strike on the human form replicator planet. The
attack is a success but the replicator's counter attack forces them to
launch the city into space to escape. It's a pretty good finale, but
felt a little abrupt. Jewel Staite joins the series as the new doctor.

Stargate Atlantis (Season 4 blu-ray)

"Adrift" – Season 4 premier. Now on blu-ray! It looks a lot better.
Not to gush too much, but these blu-ray really blow away the DVDs.
Anyway, Amanding Tapping joins the team to help save the day.

"Lifeline" - Part two of the premier. Dr. Weir leaves the show and is
replaced by Carter. I was *shocked* by this development! Even though
I've obviously watched the series when it originally aired, and I knew
that Carter would be joining the series, I did not remember Higgins
leaving the show. After I finished all the episodes on the disc I went
back and rewatched the start of "Adrift" with the commentary and to see
if Higgins was still in the opening credits. Had I watched the opening
credits, I would have caught that Weir was out and Carter was in. They
talked about that on the commentary how those credits would spoil the
show for people. But I had to quickly turn off the commentary since
they were talking spoilers for the whole season.

"Reunion" - Ronan meets people from his home world and considers leaving
Atlantis to join them.

"Doppelganger" - I'm not sure I "got" this episode, but some alien dream
duplicate of Sheppard was killing people in their sleep.

Yeah, that could be it. That's part of what I feared. That's what I
was trying to find out from the local station. I know sometimes the
local station gets into a fight with the cable provider. But I think
that usually takes out the entire network, not just one show. It looks
like it's airing next week. So it could just be one of life's mysteries.

Nope -- I'm one of those strange OTA folks! (And that seems to be
getting weirder, too. One day a station will be loud and clear, with
the signal meter nice and healthy. Next day it'll be unwatchable.
And another station may be just the reverse. An engineer at KTVU
suggested to me that the signal over the Bay from Sutro suffers from
bad refraction, and that he has had the problem. Whatever, it's mighty
annoying!)

Heh -- no... If I hadn't done a rescan I wouldn't be seeing any of those
stations, ever! What's interesting is that with the new frequencies,
and at least one transmitter move, I'm seeing stations -- like KRCB --
I could never get before.

Oh, yeah -- the "Repack" and Re-Scan. That's what caused my emailing
KTVU (the first time...)! I did the rescan, but ch 2 was still just snow!
So I sent a frantic e-wail to the station, and got a nice note back explaining
a more elaborate (and nonsensical sounding!) way to do a multiple rescan,
that he "had heard worked". So I tried it, and dammit, it did work!

I seem to have to do the occasional rescan anyway. The signal sometimes
get so bad that my TV completely loses its memory that "channel 2" is
real channel 44, and I get snow again! I still have no desire for cable
though.

What did you watch?
Stargirl (recorded) - "Brainwave Jr." (ep. #1.10), which I forgot to
mention in Wed's WDYW? thread.
This was a pretty good episode. Barbara now knows the "truth", and
freaks, and kicks Pat out, but Pat wants her to take Courtney and go
far away. Barbara goes into work instead, and idiotically do Google
searches about Starman ON HER WORK COMPUTER. (Could she be any
dumber?!!) She does think to record Jordan and his parents talking in
Norwegian(?) so she can figure out what they're talking about, and she
and Pat discover that Jordan is building "a machine".
Meanwhile, Brainwave is awake, but can't remember the last 10 years.
Henry is convinced that he can turn his father to the "good" side.
Later, Courtney's idiot Cosmic Staff attacks Jordan and Brainwave, and
Jordan captures the Staff. So Henry hooks up with Courtney, and
together they go to the rest to convince them to go into the ISA's lair
to get the staff back, and possibly rescue Henry's father. Wildcat does
retieve the Staff for Courtney. (I love how Dragon King *still*
wouldn't let EVOL!!1! Cindy out of her cell during the attack by the
JSA kids!) But they're too late on Brainwave, who is back to full-on
EVOL!!1! In the end, Brainwave (seemingly) kills his own son as the
others look on.
Three episodes left, and the next one would seem to indicate that
Courtney's father isn't who she thinks he is!

soaps - B&B - Crazy Sally implements her plan to seduce Wyatt, with
apparently dumb as a post Dr. Penny serving as accomplice (despite Flo
trying to talk some sense into her!), but Flo successfully sabotages
Sally with a clandestine message to Wyatt. Meanwhile, it turns out Bill
Spencer is the one who hit Steffy on her motorcycle - she's in the
hospital now. I'm guessing this will set them up to become an "item".
DOOL - A mostly wheel-spinning episode. It takes the entire episode
to find out that, 1) no one is injured by the bombing (outside if Gabi
having a bum-ankle - based on where she and Jake were in relation to
the bomb, they should be *dead*!!), and 2) Ben Weston's "body" is
missing from the bombed-out church. No Crazy Claire this ep.

Agents of SHIELD (recorded) - "As I Have Always Been" (ep. #7.9). A
mostly good episode, directed by Elizabeth Henstridge herself, in which
Daisy and Colson get caught in a time loop (though one with a limited
number of iterations, before they all meet their doom!!), which they
have to figure out how to get out of.
Like I said, this episode was mostly good, but it was impossible to
ignore how *variable* the amount of time Daisy and Colson had in each
loop, depending on the requirements of the scene/script - this would
have gone a lot better if they had made the time loop duration more
like 5-10 minutes (in "show time") rather than the roughly 2-3 minutes
they seemed to get the first time through.

Miss Bala (HBO Go) - The 2011 Mexican film starring Stephanie Sigman
(whom I didn't realize until after watching this is the same Stephanie
Sigman who starred in the first two seasons of "SWAT"!!), not the 2019
American remake starring Gina Rodriguez, which is a challenge because
my Spanish is about *nil*!! (thank Ghu for subtitles!!).
I quite liked this, though it does a little while to get going. I
even liked the "POV" way it was filmed - e.g. a lot of the "action" is
taking place in the distance, or off in the background.
Anyway, that I said, I totally didn't understand the ending - maybe
somebody can explain it to me sometime...

Primary (Prime) - This, OTOH, was quite disappointing - I really only
watched this because it co-stars Katharine Isabelle (and Merrit
Patterson!!), though both were portraying underdeveloped characters...
It does finally have some kind of payoff at the end, but it takes *way
too long* to get there, and there's a lot of annoying side-distractions
along the way.
Basically, this is a very low-rent Canadian sort-of "Double
Indemnity" kind of flick (though without the femme fatale), in which
Dustin Milligan's insurance executive goes down a moral rathole, thanks
to Michael Eklund (*never* trust this guy!!).
Like "Miss Bala", I also didn't totally understand the ending - I
couldn't figure out if Milligan's character had targeted Katharine
Isabelle's character deliberately, or whether she was just collateral
dammage.

Recorded for later: Blindspot (series finale - I should get to the
penultimate episode tonight...).
--
"Who would ever do this to him!?" - HottCiara on DOOL (04-27-2020), asking
who would stab Victor Kirakis... How about ANYONE WHO'S EVER MET HIM??!!

Spencer is the one who hit Steffy on her motorcycle - she's in the
hospital now. I'm guessing this will set them up to become an "item".
DOOL - A mostly wheel-spinning episode. It takes the entire episode
to find out that, 1) no one is injured by the bombing (outside if Gabi
having a bum-ankle - based on where she and Jake were in relation to the
bomb, they should be *dead*!!), and 2) Ben Weston's "body" is missing
from the bombed-out church. No Crazy Claire this ep.
Agents of SHIELD (recorded) - "As I Have Always Been" (ep. #7.9). A
mostly good episode, directed by Elizabeth Henstridge herself,
I didn't realize that.

Daisy and Colson get caught in a time loop (though one with a limited
number of iterations, before they all meet their doom!!), which they
have to figure out how to get out of.
Like I said, this episode was mostly good, but it was impossible to
ignore how *variable* the amount of time Daisy and Colson had in each
loop, depending on the requirements of the scene/script - this would
have gone a lot better if they had made the time loop duration more like
5-10 minutes (in "show time") rather than the roughly 2-3 minutes they
seemed to get the first time through.
Miss Bala (HBO Go) - The 2011 Mexican film starring Stephanie Sigman
(whom I didn't realize until after watching this is the same Stephanie
Sigman who starred in the first two seasons of "SWAT"!!), not the 2019
American remake starring Gina Rodriguez, which is a challenge because my
Spanish is about *nil*!!
Thanks for clarifying *which* version. I wonder if the original is
better than the American remake. I can't say for certain, but I think I
also had issues with the way the American version ended.

What did you watch?
Stargirl (recorded) - "Brainwave Jr." (ep. #1.10),
It was spoiled for me that someone was going to die, so it wasn't a big
surprise. I knew it would probably be him or his dad.
Sorry about that... (:-/) I thought it was ambiguous enough to be safe.

Don't worry. I know there are some people who can see the recognizable
actor's name in the opening credits of a murder mystery show and never
figure out that the recognizable actor is going to be the person who did
it. Seriously, I've spoken to those people before! Then there's me who
if you say "twist" I'll probably figure out what the twist is in the
first 5 minutes. It sort of puts me in a bind when describing shows. I
know that if I know there's a "twist" I'll see it coming a mile away,
but it won't necessary be obvious to other people. But applying a do
unto others standard, I'm often much more vague that I probably need to
be when talking shows. That's why I'll rarely acknowledge a twist even
exists, even when that's the easiest way to describe the plot.

(I love how Dragon King

Three episodes left, and the next one would seem to indicate that
Courtney's father isn't who she thinks he is!
I noticed the mother kept denying he was Starman, but her denials
seemed to hint at she is hiding something.
I don't want to say too much, but I'm pretty sure I've figured out the
"twist" about who Courtney's dad is. If I'm right, it'll be amusing...

I just checked, and it looks like only Hulu (and Starz) have the 2019

Since this show is made by the guy who's responsible for Stoopidgirl et al,
I am going out on a limb and guessing she's Starman and had to pretend to
be a man because yada yada yada...

I can't quantify it. Just process of elimination. They just seemed to
be the most obvious choice. The episode focused on Brainwave Jr. so
either he or his dad being the one seemed to make the most sense. If
some random character we never met before had died, it wouldn't have
been mentioned. Stargirl and her family were safe. Although if the mom
had died, that would have solved a few problems. But if I hadn't known
going in someone would die, I wouldn't have assumed it was going to
happen. But once I knew, narrowing it down to those two was easy for
me. Although I wasn't able to narrow it down to which of the two.

If I was *forced* to pick, I would have said dad would be the one to go
since much like mom, that would have solved a bunch of problems. So if
anything, going with the son instead of the father is a sign of better
writing than I would have given them credit for.
