Post by UbiquitousWhat did you watch?
Stargirl (recorded) - "Brainwave Jr." (ep. #1.10), which I forgot to
mention in Wed's WDYW? thread.
This was a pretty good episode. Barbara now knows the "truth", and
freaks, and kicks Pat out, but Pat wants her to take Courtney and go
far away. Barbara goes into work instead, and idiotically do Google
searches about Starman ON HER WORK COMPUTER. (Could she be any
dumber?!!) She does think to record Jordan and his parents talking in
Norwegian(?) so she can figure out what they're talking about, and she
and Pat discover that Jordan is building "a machine".
Meanwhile, Brainwave is awake, but can't remember the last 10 years.
Henry is convinced that he can turn his father to the "good" side.
Later, Courtney's idiot Cosmic Staff attacks Jordan and Brainwave, and
Jordan captures the Staff. So Henry hooks up with Courtney, and
together they go to the rest to convince them to go into the ISA's lair
to get the staff back, and possibly rescue Henry's father. Wildcat does
retieve the Staff for Courtney. (I love how Dragon King *still*
wouldn't let EVOL!!1! Cindy out of her cell during the attack by the
JSA kids!) But they're too late on Brainwave, who is back to full-on
EVOL!!1! In the end, Brainwave (seemingly) kills his own son as the
others look on.
Three episodes left, and the next one would seem to indicate that
Courtney's father isn't who she thinks he is!
soaps - B&B - Crazy Sally implements her plan to seduce Wyatt, with
apparently dumb as a post Dr. Penny serving as accomplice (despite Flo
trying to talk some sense into her!), but Flo successfully sabotages
Sally with a clandestine message to Wyatt. Meanwhile, it turns out Bill
Spencer is the one who hit Steffy on her motorcycle - she's in the
hospital now. I'm guessing this will set them up to become an "item".
DOOL - A mostly wheel-spinning episode. It takes the entire episode
to find out that, 1) no one is injured by the bombing (outside if Gabi
having a bum-ankle - based on where she and Jake were in relation to
the bomb, they should be *dead*!!), and 2) Ben Weston's "body" is
missing from the bombed-out church. No Crazy Claire this ep.
Agents of SHIELD (recorded) - "As I Have Always Been" (ep. #7.9). A
mostly good episode, directed by Elizabeth Henstridge herself, in which
Daisy and Colson get caught in a time loop (though one with a limited
number of iterations, before they all meet their doom!!), which they
have to figure out how to get out of.
Like I said, this episode was mostly good, but it was impossible to
ignore how *variable* the amount of time Daisy and Colson had in each
loop, depending on the requirements of the scene/script - this would
have gone a lot better if they had made the time loop duration more
like 5-10 minutes (in "show time") rather than the roughly 2-3 minutes
they seemed to get the first time through.
Miss Bala (HBO Go) - The 2011 Mexican film starring Stephanie Sigman
(whom I didn't realize until after watching this is the same Stephanie
Sigman who starred in the first two seasons of "SWAT"!!), not the 2019
American remake starring Gina Rodriguez, which is a challenge because
my Spanish is about *nil*!! (thank Ghu for subtitles!!).
I quite liked this, though it does a little while to get going. I
even liked the "POV" way it was filmed - e.g. a lot of the "action" is
taking place in the distance, or off in the background.
Anyway, that I said, I totally didn't understand the ending - maybe
somebody can explain it to me sometime...
Primary (Prime) - This, OTOH, was quite disappointing - I really only
watched this because it co-stars Katharine Isabelle (and Merrit
Patterson!!), though both were portraying underdeveloped characters...
It does finally have some kind of payoff at the end, but it takes *way
too long* to get there, and there's a lot of annoying side-distractions
along the way.
Basically, this is a very low-rent Canadian sort-of "Double
Indemnity" kind of flick (though without the femme fatale), in which
Dustin Milligan's insurance executive goes down a moral rathole, thanks
to Michael Eklund (*never* trust this guy!!).
Like "Miss Bala", I also didn't totally understand the ending - I
couldn't figure out if Milligan's character had targeted Katharine
Isabelle's character deliberately, or whether she was just collateral
dammage.
Recorded for later: Blindspot (series finale - I should get to the
penultimate episode tonight...).

"Who would ever do this to him!?" - HottCiara on DOOL (04-27-2020), asking
who would stab Victor Kirakis... How about ANYONE WHO'S EVER MET HIM??!!
