Belgian Classic TT (CRMB), Gedinne, Belgium 25-26 August 2012
And on a bank holiday weekend too. It'd be rude not to go for the whole
weekend this time.

Looks like it'll be Gedinne followed by the Bol then.

This time last year I'd have opted for Chimay then Oschersleben but
Gedinne was so much better than Chimay that it's a no-brainer.

Chimay's been fucked up a bit by the loss of the lower camping field.
The campsite was just far, far, far too packed this year.

Gedinne's primary appeal is novelty value.

If you are going for a 10 day holiday then the area of France between
Gedinne & MC has some decent roads, scenery & viticulture. That itinery
would be more interesting for me than watching old bikes and sleeping in a

I've no doubt plans will be made and changed several times over the
winter and we'll end up sleeping in a foreign field watching old bikes
and drinking strong lager.

A hotel really shouldn't be necessary.

All he needs to remember is

1) Pack a tent
2) Don't re-use the same shallow grave for the victims

We found a couple of hotels within easy range of the circuit but that
leaves the problem of getting to and from the circuit with crashing
because I'm absolutely slaughtered after a day on the beer. It also
leaves a slight issue of nowhere to pass out when the heat becomes
unbearable as it did this year.

Next.

The straight answer to that is "in the shade of an R1"

I'm not sure the heat was the problem so much as 2000 miles and several
days of ludicrously hot weather. Neither of which, last summer aside, is
generally a problem when travelling to the Ardennes from SE England.

As I understand the eligibility rules for IHRO it would have to be at
the least a decent replica of a pre 72 GP bike, not any old SO bike with
a race fairing. A bit beyond a whip round, unless someone has a TZ or
similar lurking unused in a shed. A Morini is definitely out of the
frame. I can't see Provini's 250 single being up for grabs on Ebay any
time soon.

Ah. Shame. I might register the 400 Four for the parade laps, though.
Why don't you do the same for the Morini and thhen we can have a thrash,

TBF there may be other races at the Belgian Classic TT not to IHRO rules
but I can't find much about it other than on the IHRO web site.

Is this a gauntlet which I see thrown down before me?

Tell me more of these 'parade' laps. If they are anything like the one I
did at the Trofeo Rosso[1] on the Mille GT/Squire, 'thrash' is the
operative word. Anyone got a URL for details?

[1] Which is another excellent weekend of track days in mid July for SO
bikes with camping on site at the Val de Vienne circuit. Almost
exclusively Italian machinery but they let Voxans circulate[2] with the
more modern Spaghetti burners.

[2] Though not for very long usually, naturally.

I think the pink splatters had more to do with the bottle of port we'd

Well the obvious choice of pilot is Champ, being nearly of classic
status himself. A pity I broke up the Morini Racer, though as well as
being only a 350 and dog slow it was a 77. Definitely a vintage rider
however, but I'm sure my ACU hill climb licence wouldn't suffice.

As I won't have 'the chateau' by then I'm torn between the Manx and
parade laps on the 2C/375 or seeing if it might get me to Gedinne and
back. Anybody else likely to take up the challenge of doing on a pre
1980ish bike?

Well the obvious choice of pilot is Champ
Unlikely, as it'd clash with the Manx GP. And F would have his guts for

<Consults Google Maps>

450 miles, is that all ? I've done four times that distance on the wee
vee two up with camping gear. That was over a 3 week period and in 1987
TBF. I still might be up for it, if my mate[1] doesn't take up my
challenge of us going to the Manx on GFRs, though if nobody else is I
might use the Shiver.

You don't think we have enough time to put together a Ukrm(c)
Classic Racer, do you? And have we got anyone who could pilot it?
What's the cut-off date for real racers, as opposed to parade
lappers? 1974, isn't it?
Do you have any idea how hard I had to resist snapping this up last
year?

Not least because it reminded me of my first proper bike

ISWYM. I'm looking vaguely for a decent used stroke right now.

another RD350 YPVS, maybe a Suzuki 500 twin.
Have you noticed the amusing prices RG500's fetch?

I /just/ missed out on a sub-?1000 Maico 440 Magnum a few weeks ago. I
was gutted.
