Pressure Mounts for Dean Apology Over Race Joke

Pressure continues to mount on Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard
Dean to apologize for racially tinged remarks he made last Friday while
addressing the Congressional Black Caucus, where he joked that minorities
tend to be employed as bellboys and hotel maids.

In a joint statement issued late Tuesday, former Rep. J.C. Watts and
Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele said: "We are simply outraged over
recent racially insensitive remarks made by Democratic National Committee
Chair Howard Dean. In his comments to the Democratic Black Caucus, Dean
equates African-Americans who support Republicans to hired help.

"This kind of backward thinking reminds us of a horrible time in history
when blacks were only seen as servants," Watts and Steele noted.

The focus of the growing outrage was an awkward joke Dean told to the CBC:
"You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of
color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here."

On Monday, Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman told ABC Radio
Network host Sean Hannity that Dean's remark was "pretty offensive. It's
pretty racist, if you ask me."

In an interview Tuesday with Baltimore's WBAL-TV, Steele called Dean's
remarks "racially insensitive and intolerable."

An online poll taken by the TV station showed that 72 percent of those
responding thought Gov. Dean needed to apologize.

Bullshit! Right wingers are such fucking liars
and whiners. He joked that the only people of
color at a Republican event would be on the
service staff because that's the kind of inclusive
party the Republican party is. The only way
they can attack Dean or Gore or anybody is
by lying about them.

That wasn't a joke, that was the truth.

If Dean had said, "Republicans were so proud of J.C. Watts, they gave him
the key to his own washroom," that would have been a joke.

Question: which party freed the slaves and which party was the first to
include minorities at the very highest levels of government? Which
party drafted and passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964?

Need I remind you that the first black president, Pimpin' Willie
Clinton, never had a minority in any meaningful governmental position.

GW is THE MOST INCLUSIVE President in the history of our country, it's
a fact, deal with it.

You stupid cocksucker, first of all the Democrats are made up of the most
racist bastards in the country. They use the minorities only when they need
their votes and ignore them any other time. Kerry didn't have one person of
color on his staff and neither did Dean as far as I could see. Kerry looked
stupid as hell in those Black churches looking as uncomfortable as hell.
Dean is a super racist who has made other comments like this in the past.
He looks down on minorities as does Kerry and only shows up to beg for
votes and to speak lousy Spanish when he has to. The big problem that the
Democrats have is that the minorities are finally wising up to this trick
and they voted Republican in surprising numbers last Nov.

Cold icy hands taking hold of me
for Death has come, you all can see.
Hell has open it,s gate to trick me.
Oh! Death, Oh! Death, can't you spare
me, over for another year!
I'll stuff your jaws till you can't talk
I'll blind your leg's till you can't walk
I'll tie your hands till you can't make a

And finally I'll close your eyes so you

Oh, Anna Why Didn’t You Appear
T’ was perfect plan of deviant pleasure so bold on that Spring nite
My inner felling hot with propension of the new awakening season
Warn, wet with inner fear and rapture, my pleasure of entanglement, like
new vines at night
Oh, Anna, Why Didn’t You Appear
Drop of fear fresh Spring rain would roll down from your nakedness to
scent to lofty fever that burns within,
In that small world of longing, fear, rapture, and desparation, the game
we play, fall on devil ears
Fantasy spring forth, mounts, to storm fury, then winter clam at the end.
Oh, Anna Why Didn’t You Appear
Alone, now in another time span I lay with sweet enrapture garments
across most private thought
Bed of Spring moist grass, clean before the sun, enslaved with control,
warm wind scenting the air, sun light sparkle tears in eyes so deep and
clear.
Alone again I trod in pass memory of mirrors, and ponder why for number
eight was not.
Oh, Anna Why Didn’t You Appear

The "decline of personal responsibility" is a legit talking point.
There is nothing "racist" or "fascist" about it. Especially when one
sees all of the debauchery contained in an average MTV video.

He was addressing a black caucus and he made a joke
at the expense of Republicans. That's not shooting
from the hip or lip or anything. Newsmax are lying
by totally misrepresenting what Dean said. Republicans
lie to distort Democrats' images. They lied about
Gore's alleged "lies" and they've lied about stuff
that Dean has said to make it more controversial

Like Dean is really gonna say something racist in front

Now explain how you Repub's constantly misunderstand

I don't expect and honest answer but there's one of two

Dean was simply wrong. The highest position a Black got in Clinton's
admin was... Secy of Holding The Prez's Hand (when he got caught with
his dick in the mouth of a "barely legal".

We, on the other hand, have already seen Secy of Edu, 2 Secy's of State
and many more. OBTW... a promotion to Chief Justice once Bill decides
to call it a career.

When GWBush does that, that's gonna drive the left crazy -- we'll
really see leftist racism. *snicker*

Top Black Dem: Dean Should Apologize

The most powerful African-American member of the House of Representatives is
calling on Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean to apologize
for a racially insensitive joke he told Friday during an address to the
Congressional Black Caucus.

Asked on Tuesday if Dean should apologize for suggesting during his address
that minorities usually work as servants, Rep. Charles Rangel told ABC
Radio's Sean Hannity, "If he offended anybody, he certainly should." Critics
say Dean crossed the line when he told the CBC, "You think the Republicans
could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the
hotel staff in here."

Addressing the comment directly, the Harlem Democrat said, "I think Dean may
not have used the right language, which he has had problems with before."

Rangel went on to explain that what the DNC chief meant to say was that "the
Republican Party finds it very, very difficult to attract blacks to become
public officials."

Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, who is Maryland's first black to hold that office,
joined with former Rep. J.C. Watts yesterday to demand that Dean apologize,
and expanded on his complaint last night.

"I think it is rather presumptive [for Dean] to presume that the staff in
the hotel is African-American," Steele told Fox News Channel's "Hannity &
Colmes." Steele said the DNC chairman's remark was further evidence that the
Democratic Party takes the black vote for granted.

"If I or another Republican had made a statement like that, it would be all
over the place," Steele added. "And so the reality is for me, when I read
that and hear it, it's offensive, because what it says is you don't see me
in any other role."

Now explain how you Repub's constantly misunderstand
Dean's comments. On second thought don't bother as
I don't expect and honest answer but there's one of two
possible reasons: a) you're all very stupid; b) you're
deliberately misrepresenting his words in an attempt
to smear him. IOW, either you're sincerely stupid or
sincerely insincere.
Dear Idiot,

Steele and Watts don't count as they're Repub's.

Actually, you're right. What's his name Jones said
it was Democrats I was talking about when I complained
of people making a big deal over nothing. Rangel
doesn't seem to have too much of a problem with what
Dean said. The people trying to fan up a controversy
are Republicans.

It's a non-starter.

See...., it's a non-starter. As Bill Maher says, there's

So when Republicans are the only ones who care enough to stand up for
the minorities, they don't count because they're republican?!?!? You
liberals are SUPPOSED to be the ones to stand up for the minorities, you
should all be SCREAMING for Dean to apologize.

If that's your opinion you don't understand
the joke. His audience was composed mostly of
black people and they weren't offended. For
years conservatives have been decrying political
correctness and that's one of the few things
they were right about. So let's not get over-

All of this mock outrage is getting tedious.

First of all, I for one am not MOCK outraged at all, and I'm actually
appalled at your dismissive attitude towards other people's views. How
do you know the audience wasn't offended?? I am not getting
oversensitive; I agree that political correctness has gone too far over
the years, and I would be the first one to allow him the benefit of the
doubt, but Dean has ignored the problem instead of trying to apologize
for it. Since political correctness has gone too far, I believe that
people should have the freedom to say what they want, but also the
freedom to make sure, after the fact, to apologize for any
misconceptions about what they said. The difference is that Dean
doesn't seem to care that some people are offended by his comments.

He was making a joke at the expense of Republicans.
It wasn't racist. If you think it was then you don't
get it. The thrust of the joke is that there aren't
a lot of "people of color" in the rank and file of the
GOP, so most of the minorities at an RNC conference
would be in the service staff. Not very funny but
nothing to get upset over. What's cause for outrage
is that people or misrepresenting it to make Dean
look bad. Must GOP'ers politicize everything? Dean
has nothing to apologize for.

I'm not making it political, I'm making it human (not to mention that
even if I was making it political.... this involves the head of the DNC,
which means it IS political, whether we want it to be or not). I
understand your point, truly I do. But part of being intelligent means
you understand that not everybody sees things as you do. The "joke"
assumes that the serving staff is made up of mostly people of color,
which many of "us" see as racist in and of itself. You see it as a joke
and laugh, and the bottom line is that others do not, and Dean, as the
head of the DNC, MUST be more diligent with how he words his "jokes".

Yes, I did. You know why it's lie, you fucking dickhead? Because those

Furthermore, your lie exposes your own fucking, sick racism. You obviously

Why don't you give us some examples as proofs?
Well Strom Thurmond is dead but the spiritual
descendants of the old Dixiecrats are Repub's
today. Looking at historical trends, there was
a migration of old Democrats, who stayed loyal
to the Democrats partly because of a deep seated
hatred of Lincoln, to the Republican party when
people like RFK pulled the Dem's in a progressive
direction during the 60's. Browse for Nixon
and "southern strategy". This is history and
not opinion. Here's a good summary:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

Recently Republicans have tried to fob off the
Democratic party as more racist because more
Repub's voted for the civil rights act of 1964
than Dem's (IIRC percentage wise). This is
misleading as the Democratic party was in flux.
The present day Democratic Party is more liberal
and more pro-civil rights than the GOP who owe
their present standing to the "southern strategy".

Some day blacks in this country are going to wake up and start to
examine what the democrats have done to them.
You two are despicable fucking liars.
Show us how asshole liberal.
Fuck you, Donnie, you fucking liar. Dean never implied or said anything
even remotely racist. He was speaking about the racism of RepublicOns,
which <btw> these days masquerades under the phrase "personal
responsibility". Instead of just calling blacks 'niggers', you
'consevative' <fascist> assholes now whine about the "...decline of personal
responsibility among certain groups..." So fuck off you fucking lying piece
of shit.

Rangel went on to explain that what the DNC chief meant to say was that "the
Republican Party finds it very, very difficult to attract blacks to become
public officials."

Lt.

Look at what Rangel said. If he offended anyone he should apologize.
That's just a weasely cya statesment. This is a non-issue because
black people know exactly what Dean meant.

Yeah, what an outrage. The Republicans sure have perfected the art of
phony sanctimony lately.

Here's what the *conservative* commentator Ranesh Ponnuru had to say
about this incident on the *National Review* web site:

"...Let me quote the complaint: "In his comments to the Democratic
Black Caucus, Dean equates African-Americans who support Republicans to
'hired help.' This kind of backward thinking reminds us of a horrible
time in history when blacks were only seen as servants." Give me a
break. Dean is saying, hyperbolically, that there aren't many blacks or
other nonwhites in the Republican party. He's right. I've been to many,
many Republican dinners where most nonwhites present have been serving
the food. (Or giving the keynote.) If Republicans are bothered when
people make that observation, they should try to make it less true."

Here's what the *conservative* commentator Ranesh Ponnuru had to say

Rangel went on to explain that what the DNC chief meant to say was that "the
Republican Party finds it very, very difficult to attract blacks to become
public officials."

Lt.

No shit, Shirlock. Blacks vote democratic 90% of the time so the numbers
of black republicans showing up at formal dinners won't be that high.

As for trying to make it less true, you can lead a horse to water but you
can't make it drink. In other words, republicans can reach out to black
people but that doesn't mean they will accept as obviously they haven't.
That doesn't mean the republicans are racist and have not reached out to
blacks as is implied by this idiot writer.
