There's an interesting article on Lou Reed in the latest Forward. And it's
http://forward.com/culture/365997/was-lou-reed-a-lot-more-jewish-than-we-thought-he-was/
Don't think I've heard Reed's (ironic) "I Want to Be Black" (with the
repeated line, "And fuck up Jews." Interesting to think about this song
after having seen "Get Out" this weekend.
Oh, the Lou Reed song was scandalous, but the entire Street Hassle album was
quite a rocking ride.

"I wanna be like Malcolm X and pass the Hex over President Kennedy's tomb...
and have a big prick too."

Anyone here familiar with Lou Reed's Berlin album?

A harrowing example of life transformed to art.

Without apology.

We all transform our life experiences into art ... the operative word being "transform."

There is a line where "reportage" ends and "art" begins, and the best artists instinctively know how far to cross that line under varying sets of circumstances.

I have always appreciated your attempt to mythologize your life. There's something noble in the concept that every man's life is the stuff that myths are made of.

I don't think you need to convince any of us that art is created from life. Jim specializes in capturing snippets of life (his own and others) in his verses. Your argument with him is more over *how* the incidents of your life are transformed (not *that* they are transformed).

My "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR" poem is based on real life -- only the names have been omitted on the off-chance that my poem should ever be used as evidence for the prosecution.

I know it well as Lou Reed was very popular up in Buffalo....;

Rock And Roll Animal, one of our radio stations used his line for a tag.....
