I just uploaded a fix for FTP_synchronize which comes with the current build
of Notepad++ 4.7. A bug caused the plugin to leak icons which in turn can give
mayor problems with any GUI in windows (esp. 9x). Please download 0.9.5.1 if
you still use 0.9.5.0, it can be found at the following location:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=189927&package_id=245189
A quick test showed no more leaks, but the problem usually occurred after multiple
hours of usage so if anyone still has trouble please post :)

Note that the problem occurred when explorer icons were used instead of the
built-in ugly icons.

-Harry

Great. Thanks for the great plugin. Can I know why the AINSI version is included
with N++ not the unicode?

Probably for compatibility with old windows versions like 95 and 98.
That and Notepad++ itself is ANSI, so it matches closer (?)

The best plugin in Notepad++
but it is consuming all my CPU.

First around 10%
then using it for 30 minutes or more it is using 40-50% of CPU.

I noted this with the last release of notepad

Could oyu please describe more how you use this plugin and if the behaviur still
occurs if you disable some options?
Specifically, are you connected most of the time and is Keep-Alive enabled?
Does it still happen with autosave enabled?
With the explorer icons still enabled?
What fi you disable keep alive?

Also, are you using a dualcore system? 50% CPU on a dualcore usualy means 100%
on a single core desktop which means it hangs. Is the plugin/Notepad++ still
responsive if the CPU usage goes so high?

Thank you for any input, I have no idea what causes this so any help would be
welcome ;).

Dear Harry,

I don't use a dualcore system.
The Plugin/Notepad++ is still responsive with this high CPU usage but I have
to restart Notepad++ to resolve the problems.

I do not have enabled the keep alive feature.

Yes auto-save is enabled (default I believe), I've never changed it.
It is a beautiful feature.
I'm most of the time connected and use it many times to save and auto-upload
the changed file.
I use it many times to keep the connection alive and to view immediate the change
on the server.

What do you mean with "with the explorer icons still enabled"?

btw I don't use filezilla and totalcommander ftp anymore with this great plugin,
thank you :)

Would it be possible to drag and drop new files to the server?

Under General settings you can uncheck "Use explorer icons" or something similar
which make the plugin use default icons (rather ugly but more reliable afaik).
See if checking/unchecking makes any difference.
Also please try without keep alive and see if that helps (if you do many operations
yourself the server probably wont disconnect too soon).

As for Drag N Drop, thats needs some modifications in Notepad++ itself in order
to work. I like to finish some stuff up before attempting to modify Notepad++,
so its not going to happen soon but it's on my list ;).

Also, does the CPU suage drop if you were to hide all the dockable windows?

Thank you Harry.

BTW I had not keep alive enabled.

I disabled "use explorer icons" now.

Hope Drag N drop will be soon there.
The problem is that I have to switch a few times to my ftp client to add files.

I will keep you informed about CPU usage.

Thank you very much for this great plugin.

Harry,
Thank you for this plugin, it's actually much more handy than I expected it
to be. I did run into a bug when downloading from an IIS FTP site... when
FTP_synchronize goes to cache the path information, it cannot. I assume this
is because the root on this Windows machine I'm connecting to is D:\, and I'm
guessing that's causing the problem. Works great on Linux FTPs though ;) Anyway,
no big rush on my part, but I thought you might like to know. Thanks again,
& keep up the good work!

Could you please try this version from the CVS?
http://npp-plugins.cvs.sourceforge.net/npp-plugins/NppPlugins/FTP_synchronize/bu
ild/FTP_synchronizeA.dll?view=log
it should fix that problem I think. Buts its the CVS so it may be a bit buggy
;)
The directory listing seems fine btw, the error message you posted was the real
problem.

I forgot to ask and it mayt be important, does this still occur when you disable
ftp_synchronize by removing the plugin (leaving the rest exactly as it is).
Its probably FTP_synchronize but I'd like to be sure if I find time to debug
this :)
It does mean you temporarily have to switch to another client.

I'm a newcomer to Notepad++ and FTP Synchronize, which is very useful (thanks
to Harry and its developers). But I've noticed a few minor things with it.

When I save the file locally, can FTP Sync be made to auto-upload it to my FTP
server? I thought the option 'Upload cached file on save' did this. But I can't
see this option doing anything in the Queue when I save the file in Notepad++.

Also it's icons don't get bigger when I switch to using Big icons in the NotePad++
Toolbar.

Lastly can the FTP folder tree view, where it shows the root yellow folder path
of the server, be made to show the end of the path rather than all the path?
If I want to see the end of the folder path I'm uploading a file to, I have
to expand the width of the tree pane and if it only showed the last 20 chars
say, I can keep its width to a minimum? :-)

Comments welcome. :-))

I'm running Notepad++ V4.7.5, FTP Sync 0.9.6, on Windows XP Pro SP2.

:-)

-Autoupload only works on cached files, so it wont upload any random file you
have opened in Notepad++ (the risk of uploading it to a bad place is too high).
You can however automatically move the file to the cache when you manually upload
the file, so afterwards the file gets saved. Downloaded files go to the cache
by default.
I think I need some better documentation sometime, just like Notepad++ ;).

-The Notepad++ toolbar is not related to the FTP_synchronize toolbar and so
the toolbar wont enlarge (I dont intent to add it either, the icons used by
FTP_s are only available as 16x16 anyway). The toolbar supports tooltips so
if the button is too small you can use that for guidance.

-Check the "subtree root folder" option, that way all the folders get their
own treeicon and the string wont be as long. In a later release I think I am
going to drop the current behaviour altogether, when symbolic links get handled
better it'll interfere ;).

When you select "Show FTP folders" a new dockable window should show, it contains
the ftp toolbar.
Maybe the window is out of the screen range. Open config.xml and remove the
lines within the
<GUIConfig name="DockingManager" (...) >
</GUIConfig>
tags, this will reset the docking.

There should be 2 dockable windows, the one you see if for the messages, the
other one has the toolbar (it should be on the right).
What OS are you using? If its Vista, see if it works with admin priviliges (it
should work w/o though).

Thanks alot for the plugin. I'm loving it.
There's but one gripe for me (and it's a relatively minor one at that).
When I´m working on a project, I have a predefined structure on my hard-disk.
Setting the profile cache solves the problem I had before by saving in a specified
directory (project name). All fine and dandy so far.
The 'problem' I have is that if the server path is convoluted (i.e the 'initial
directory' is filled to hold something like 'web/usr/h/hamburg/wwwroot') FTPSync
uses the path relative to the server, instead of relative to the settings, which
is rather cumbersome, because when a project is finished, I have to move all
the files, and I can't just turn it over to my colleagues because they
use Dreamweaver *shudder*.
But, as I said before. It's an inconvenience.
Kudos on the plugin.

But if it can use different tag page icon to differentiate remote files from

Even with the cache auto-upload checkbox enabled, FTP_sync doesn't auto-upload
FTP files. I download the file from FTP using FTP sync, edit it, and save it.
I have to click the upload button for it to actually save to ftp.

I have a problem with the FTP_synchronize 0.9.6. This is the error message :

Unable to create directory for file C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My

As you can see there is a : in the name of the folder. I have no way to modify
that folder name because it comes from my host. That server is on a linux box
so there is no problem with the character :, however on windows it refuse to
create a folder with : in the name. Is it possible to do a check on the folder
name and to remove all the characters that windows is not supporting for folder
name : \/:*?"<>|

Or do I have any way to specify the exact name that a folder name should be
transfered ?

Thanks
