Post by Gracchusbe to just enjoy his money and let others scrap out who or if there's a GOAT. I'm sure Sampras didn't like his hard-fought 14 left in the dust, but he left a legacy to be proud of regardless.
Federer did something exceptional. We all know he played in not so competitive era mid 00s, but he crushed and beat everyone so he did what he was asked to do. Can't do better than that.
By the time Nadal/Djokovic fully emerged Federer had already achieved stuff like 5 straight Wim, 5 straight USO, 237 straight weeks at #1, slam record and now I understand better that it was hard for him to acknowledge the fact that they might be better than him or that they would eclipse him. Certainly not both of them. Who would have bet on that?
Just try picturing that? Him telling himself "I broke all the records, I'm a goat, but this guy who's a beast on clay, he's goat too. And the other guy who retires in matches, he's a goat too."
Lol impossible.
Federer is a bit stubborn and I guess all champions are. But you can't blame him for not grasping this.
Hazelwood predicted 18 slams for Federer and we all laughed. Imagine someone predicted cca 20 for all top 3 guys?
No way.
I believe the only time he went doing something without the feel he is better than Nadal or Djokovic was in 2016 when Ljubi?i? taught him new backhand.
Then he wins AO 2017 against Nadal and with Wim 2019, despite not winning it, those two slams redefine his career and leave him in boat debates.
And if he stays in boat debates, then he stays in goat debates as well.
But he should never forgive himself for trying, for the most part of his career, to beat Nadal/Djokovic playing from the baseline.
That was just gay.
great pt and one i've mentioned often. the stubborn tactic of allowing
arrogant. IMO it was fear based. i believe fed could've beaten nadal a
few of those slams had he changed his tactic a bit.
