I wonder what Wales will have in response to the haka this weekend... 2008
was pretty lame, they just stood there like stunned mullets, delaying the
game even more. In 2006 the Welsh Rugby Union had a cry about the timing of
the haka and it was performed in the change room. Youtube below:

http://tinyurl.com/haka2008

In both cases Wales were belted by 30 points, or thereabouts. Game on,
fuckers!

Where it JUST you I could dismiss this as excitable fanboy chatter but
it's not.

Don't you think it's sad that the haka has become almost as talked about
as the game?

Only in Wales, I don't remember the haka being so controversial in any other
arena... This decade anyway. Wales were good 100 years ago and briefly 60
years ago.... but these days they're just shite and they should behave
accordingly!

Just about every other match the ABs play someone seems to disrespect
it, they either tun their backs, stare too hard or just want to have a
sing song afterward.

Just out of curiosity, how should they behave mg?

not answering for mg ( in any way ) the Haka should be with the cultural

For the record I agree, I think it gives the All Blacks an unfair advantage.
I'd be ok with it being restricted to the change room for away games, good
luck trying to remove it from a home game though.

If they feel up to the challenge they may perform a traditional folk dance,
with top hats and canes.

But not AFTER the haka, right? Last time someone tried to get the last
'word' the AB threw their collective handbags out of the pram.

Uh. It's entirely commonplace for other countries with challenges -
e.g. Samoa, Tonga, Fiji - to do theirs at the same time as the Haka.

So if the welsh boys dance WITH them the AB won't go off and dance in
the dressing room?

Problem solved, maybe they can meet after the game and exchange makeup
and hair grooming tips as well.

How so? When wales wanted to answer the AB by singing a traditional
welsh hymm the AB flounced off to the dressing room.

MAYBE as a compromise the welsh sing at the same time? Bread of Heaven
isn't what I would call a dance track but I'm sure the AB choreographers
could make it work: ".... shake it Richie, shake it ... that's it Danny,
you work it girl .... and step and step, turn and jazz hands .... smile
Nonu you miserable breeder!"

Well Chard wouldn't have had anything to do with forming up in ranks
under normal circumstances, he was a Royal Engineers officer, but, he
was senior to Bromhead and therefore assumed command. Incidentally the
soldiers were not all Welsh either, the 24th of foot Regimental number
was taken by the South Wales Borderers but most of Bromhead's men were
from Shropshire, Harry Hook was a Londoner and later a Sergeant in the
1st (Volunteer) Batallion 7th of Foot, the Royal Fusiliers
(Coincidentally Chard's uncle was a Colonel in the Royal Fusiliers),
Fred Hitch was also a Londer and became a London Cabby.

I served in the successor to 1st (Volunteer) Batallion 7th of Foot at
Balham in London

Only in Wales, I don't remember the haka being so controversial in any
other arena... This decade anyway. Wales were good 100 years ago and
briefly 60 years ago.... but these days they're just shite and they
should behave accordingly!
Just about every other match the ABs play someone seems to disrespect
it, they either tun their backs, stare too hard or just want to have a
sing song afterward.
Just out of curiosity, how should they behave mg?

The Welsh should do what Twickenham did last year with "Swing Low" and drown
it out with their own song. If the Haka is a challenge, then the
"challenged" should be allowed to reply how they see fit. The AB's always
want to have it their way or else throw a tantrum.

Other teams can do what they want. And honestly, when have you ever
seen a thread on RSRU about "disrespecting the haka"? What a load of
rot - google one up if you can. You'll find way more threads from the
likes of yourself and John Hill about how it annoys you, but bugger
all from Kiwis about "disrespect".

Claims to have a kiwi connection but the reality is that his application
was turned down.
Because:- by claiming that sheep and the Haka were not the most precious
thing in the world and not hitting the immigration officer with a handbag
when he got angry he proved he was not a true NZer

You're spot on about Sydney and steak though, you're just jealous - you live

The best Australian Lamb produced sits in the supermarket just down
the road from me. Money talks, you get the leftovers.

If your steak was any good it would be here as well, but apparently
only McDonalds bothers to buy Australian beef.

Actually - the best steak doesn't make it to the saleyards. It gets
cut up and placed in my in-laws freezer where I would liberally help
myself to the best cuts. ;)

Actually in Gonad's defence : he has a point. It was a bit precious of
the Kiwis to take their ball home and dance in the dressing room but,
IMO, even more so of the Taffs to upset the accepted order of things. A
lot of Welsh fans were pissed off at missing the Haka : it is a
spectacle.

I wonder what Wales will have in response to the haka this weekend...
2008 was pretty lame, they just stood there like stunned mullets,
delaying the game even more. In 2006 the Welsh Rugby Union had a cry
about the timing of the haka and it was performed in the change room.
http://tinyurl.com/haka2006
http://tinyurl.com/haka2008
In both cases Wales were belted by 30 points, or thereabouts. Game on,
fuckers!
Where it JUST you I could dismiss this as excitable fanboy chatter but
it's not.
Don't you think it's sad that the haka has become almost as talked about
as the game?
Mike
The Haka is as much part of the game as the oval ball. Deal with it.
===================================================
The Haka is not part of the game of rugby nor rugby about the Haka. The Haka
is a cultural thing. If the NZers or whoever want to do it, so be it but
don't be so bloody precious about it.
I only see a certain section being precious about it. Your complaints
would have some veracity if you were making them of every other
nation, but they don't keep beating you do they..?
=================================================
Same applies to all nations but it is the NZers who seem to get so precious
about the Haka. I have a simple solution:- cultural things, the anthems and
than the game. The Haka has got nothing to do with rugby as such
Bullshit. The Haka is an institution now and EVERY time the ABs do it,
the pub/audience pay attention.

Stop being such a precious little killjoy.

majority rule, it's more about bloody minorities getting their squeaky

Rubbish. Think All Blacks, think the Haka. Even people who don't know
rugby know about the Haka and the All Blacks. It may be a cultural
"thing" for many New Zealanders, but it's a rugby icon for pretty much
the rest of the world. It is indelibly associated with rugby and the
All Blacks, and that, I'm guessing, is precisely why it winds you up
so much.

rugby know about the Haka and the All Blacks. It may be a cultural
"thing" for many New Zealanders, but it's a rugby icon for pretty much
the rest of the world. It is indelibly associated with rugby and the
All Blacks, and that, I'm guessing, is precisely why it winds you up
so much.
Richard Bridgman
Well said. I don't know what johnhill's problem with it is either, but
it's a tad like UD's claims of "not bothering" to watch these
Internationals as they are meaningless cash cows for the IRFU.

===================================================
The Haka is not part of the game of rugby nor rugby about the Haka. The Haka
is a cultural thing. If the NZers or whoever want to do it, so be it but
don't be so bloody precious about it.
JR is a neutral, chuck. He obviously enjoys it.

Come on Chucky... surely by now you know I'm Sef Efrican...

Tell you what, I would demand my money back if I should ever pay to
see a game in which NZ does'nt do a Haka that would shake Captain Cook
in his grave. They have come close recently with the more gay
versions of the Haka though...

As long as the AB's don't do the Te Rauparaha cowardly lament - who
gives a toss.

Just get on with the freeking game - dancing around shouting about
hiding in a kumera pit looking at an old womens twat while the
neighbouring tribe that you had just raided, killed and eaten a couple
of their warriors is searching for you - is not an appropriate way to
start an international rugby match.

Translation

I'm jabbering and quivering,
stuttering, shaking and naked!
I'm brushed by your crotch
a cleft mound, a pulsating cavern!
Forbidden mysteries are revealed;
banter and intimacy, your flushed face:
I am caught in your noose.

I'm scared but fully alert.
Who is this man with a thrusting shaft
investigating the hot moist depths,
the squirming pungent depths below?

I am dying, I'm dead!
No, I'm alive, fully alive!
a virile man
who can bring joy and peace!
Together, side by side
We can make the sun shine!

The British were prudes concerning sexual stories, so they were told that the first section of the haka explained how the incantations of his enemies were absorbed by Te Rangikoaea, while the second section told how Te Rauparaha had to whisper to her to prevent her moving away to her sleeping hut to satisfy her sexually aroused husband.
In truth, Wharerangi would have had a lot more urgent matters on his mind than taking his wife away for a spot of conjugal relaxation. He was faced with a vigilante group who would have annihilated his entire village if they had got an inkling that he was assisting Te Rauparaha. However this explanation of the words allowed the haka to be used in the presence of British settlers whose distorted morality condemned sexual frankness, even though they approved of wholesale land theft.
As the years have passed by, Kikiki/Ka Mate has gone from being a haka 'about' Te Rauparaha to one 'composed by' Te Rauparaha, although James Cowan wrote in 1935
"There is no good Maori authority for this story. The fact is that "Ka mate, ka mate," and the rest of it is a very old chant, long antedating Te Rauparaha's period."
