I "think" I've gone as far as I can go with prep for tomorrow. Apologies
for the pecan pie visual, but it'll taste good. The turkey is thawed. I
hate prepping brussels sprouts for steaming, and that's done,
and the cranberry sauce is made.
The cornbread and chopped onions and celery are for the stuffing, but
that's tomorrow.

Not too shabby there, Leo, and Happy Turkey Day to you and yours...

I've got a ton of food fixin's, but I'm going to someone's home tomorrow, so will
fix my victuals over the long weekend...

Very thankful to live in this time and place, all the conflict and political stuff aside, we are
very, very blessed... am very grateful for all that I have...

I'd not shy away from digging into that pie! But those Brussel sprouts. . . .
My cranberry sauce is ready too, it's sitting in a can whenever I want it. All
I have to do is get the can opener out. :o)

I've got my ham cooked and it's in the refrigerator chilling waiting to be sliced
tomorrow. There's several dips that were requested that will make the trip with
the ham and many varieties of chips and crackers, too. When I get up I'm going
do a 'Pioneer Woman' cherry dump cake; that was a special request.

Is your sister-in-law there with y'all to partake of your feast??

She is not. She, my niece and her son are just getting over Covid
in Wisconsin. The old gal is high risk, but is improving. We're pretty
sure she'll be OK.
Most of her plans have been put on hold, including returning here, for
the time being. Both she and my niece were fully vaccinated, so that
ought to inspire everybody.
She was hospitalized for about a day and has received something called
infusions last week, whatever that is? It's Mayo Clinic stuff.
Things appear to be on the upswing for all involved.

I have can of cranberry sauce in fridge and also fresh/frozen
cranberries in the freezer if I want to make from scratch. I prefer the
canned sauce myself. The whole cranberries are for a casserole recipe.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving day, Joan, and same to all others here.

I'll be eating simple today but will do a turkey dinner in a week or so.

I made the stuffing yesterday; it's in the basement fridge alongside the
turkey. They'll be joined in happy matrimony in a couple of hours.

The stuffing is fresh white bread, torn up, sauteed crumbled breakfast
sausage, onion, and celery. Rubbed sage and just a few flakes of hot
chili pepper. Salt and pepper. Butter and some turkey stock out of the
freezer. We cut back on the fat in the dressing this year, and used the
stock to ensure sufficient moisture.

Contrary to our usual practice, I'm roasting the turkey to be done at
lunch time. We've been eating our main meal at midday for quite some
time, preferring a light supper.

I made a green salad last night, so that's all squared away.

Turkey, dressing, gravy, and salad. That's all we need.

After lunch I'm baking a small (8x8) carrot cake. Dessert around 3 pm.

Perhaps I just never noticed it before but when I went to the
supermarket last week, in the bakery area I saw bags of fresh torn up
white bread for sale. Presumeably for making stuffing. Have people
really gotten that lazy that they can't tear bread into pieces? I
suppose if you're prepping and cooking for 20 people it would be a
convenience and a time saver but I chuckle when I see things like that.
I didn't bother to check the price.

I hear ya. Even when I was a kid the Thanksgiving and Christmas meals
were always served early in the day, never later than 2PM. It makes
sense to have the bigger meal earlier. :)

Maybe it's bread that got damaged or unsightly in the bakery section,
in the course of the year. So they froze it all, waiting to sell it
during Thanksgiving.

I saw those bags at Kroger as well. There must be a market for them or they

We're eating at 4:00 and I'd prefer 2:00 but I'm not hosting so I just along
with the plan.
We're done eating, the leftovers are put away, the dishwasher is running,
and the carrot cake is in the oven.

It was a very good turkey. The white meat was succulent and the dark
meat was cooked through.

Biden Is Making Russia Great Again

"All of this in one year. Imagine what three more of the Biden Administration will bring us..."

The world is at the precipice of another major European conflict largely because
Biden has formulated truly bad policies that have led Europe and the United States to this position of weakness.

Under former President Donald J. Trump, for the first time in decades, the United States became a net exporter of
natural gas and oil. That helped to keep global energy prices relatively low. It also gave the United States leverage
over the international system in ways it had not enjoyed since before the 1970s.

Alas, the propagation of the novel coronavirus from Wuhan, China, along with the ceaseless lies of the Western “mainstream”
media made such a prosperous and secure future under Trump an impossibility.

In the eight months since assuming office under a cloud of controversy, Joe Biden has done more to harm America’s inherent
strategic advantages in the global energy market than any U.S. rival could have imagined. Under Biden, the United States has
gone from being a net exporter of global energy to begging the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to
produce more oil for the world to consume.

Why?

Because the Biden Administration killed the much-needed KeystoneXL Pipeline that would have linked Canadian energy
sources with American refiners. Once inaugurated, the Biden Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
enacted a bevy of onerous regulations that ensured American fossil fuel producers would not produce their essential
product out of fear of retribution from vengeful federal regulators.

Biden also killed similar pipelines linking northern Michigan with Canada. Meanwhile, global supply chain woes following
the painful COVID-19 lockdowns from the previous year ensured that there would be even more strain on the already
stretched global energy supply. Plus, the reopening of the world’s major economies, coupled with the massive
government spending that occurred over the previous year to combat COVID-19, forced a spike in demand that was
not commensurate with supply—further straining that already limited energy supply and sending the price of energy
into the stratosphere.

Higher energy prices not only harmed American consumers but, over the last year, it has given renewed life to the
Putin regime in Russia. Since Russia is a major producer of natural gas and oil, Moscow needs consistently high
prices of energy to survive—and dominate—in their region of the world.

To top it off, Biden, a man Western media insisted would be the toughest world leader on Russia since Batu Khan
and his Mongol horde invaded that region in 13th century A.D., then removed all of the Trump-era sanctions on the
Russian’s planned Nord Stream II (NS2) pipeline that was set to link Russian natural gas with Germany—thereby
making Europe more dependent on Russia than at any other time in the postwar era.

All these moves by Biden amounted to completely unnecessary self-inflicted wounds that only empowered Russia
at a time when Russia had been kept back from fulfilling its most egregious foreign policy designs, thanks to the
energy and foreign policies of the previous Trump Administration.

As America under Biden got less energy independent and softer on Russia, Vladimir Putin licked his lusty lips. Finally,
prices in the natural gas and oil sectors were consistently high enough to support Putin’s military plans for Europe.
Biden’s presidency was heralded as having the most aggressive Russian foreign policy in decades. Today, as Russian
forces amass along their contested border with Eastern Ukraine, the question is not “if” Russia invades and attempts
to shatter the U.S.-led regional order there, but “when”? And given previous guarantees made to Kiev by Washington
and Brussels, a Russian invasion of Ukraine could be devastating for the U.S.-led regional order in Europe.

If Biden were serious about keeping the status quo in Europe, he’d reduce restrictions on the production of American
natural gas and oil, restore sanctions on the Nord Stream II pipeline, and start shipping America’s excess energy capacity
to Poland and other parts of Europe to offset the loss of the Nord Stream II pipeline. Then, Biden would invest in a
robust space-based missile defense force to reduce Russia’s nuclear threat, while empowering militarily competent
nations, like Poland, to take the lead in keeping Russia out of Europe.

Ukraine is probably a lost cause at this point. But the rest of Eastern Europe needn’t be. Biden doesn’t need to go to war
with Russia to preserve American access and influence in Europe. All he needs to do is give Europe—specifically the
Eastern European countries most threatened by Russian revanchism—the tools it needs to defend itself while flooding
Europe with cheap sources of North American energy so as to offset any dependence on Russian energy.

Maybe America can’t keep Russia out of Europe forever. But Washington can complicate Moscow’s most aggressive
plans for Europe, giving the Europeans the time they need to stand up their own defenses. The world is at the precipice
of another major European conflict largely because Biden has formulated truly bad policies that have led Europe and
the United States to this position of weakness. All of this in one year. Imagine what three more of the Biden
Administration will bring us.

There are 2 standards here. Turkey is the majority winner by far with
probably 80% of us having one or at least some form of poultry that
day. Ham is the other one. After that, it's a mix-n-match sort of
'anything goes'.

The potatoes were sliced on Wednesday for baking Thursday. And the Marie Calendar coconut pie suffices

I was going to live it up too. I figured when dinner was served it

‘We’re F***ed’ Says Dem Strategist as Focus Groups Show Party in Shambles

The Democrats’ political problems go beyond their embarrassing defeat in Virginia, reports Politico, as a
new poll shows that the Democrat brand has been destroyed over the past ten months.

The liberal group Third Way spoke with suburban Virginia focus groups and what they found is a disaster for their party.

“Voters couldn’t name anything that Democrats had done, except a few who said we passed the infrastructure bill,” Third
Way and its pollsters found. According to their report, most of the Biden voters they spoke with “could not articulate what
Democrats stand for. They could also not say what they are doing in Washington, besides fighting.”

Democrats have pursued their most radical agenda yet despite their razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate, making
passage of legislation difficult as they’ve struggled to appease both the moderate and socialist wings of the party. Despite
claiming he would bring Democrats and Republicans together in compromise, Biden has struggled to even get all of his own
party on board for key parts of his agenda.

“Just one year after Democrats kicked Donald Trump from the White House, it’s not obvious to many voters what Democrats
are doing now that they’re in charge,” Politico explains.

The House did pass a trimmed-down social spending package last week, but one Democratic strategist who advises major
donors told Politico it’s “too late. We’re f—ed.”

“Voters believe the economy is bad, and no amount of stats can change their mind [at least in the short term],” the Third Way
report said. “Jobs numbers, wage numbers, and the number of people we’ve put back to work don’t move them. We should
still talk about these [more the wage and back-to-work numbers], but we should realize that they will have limited impact when
people are seeing help wanted signs all over main street, restaurant sections closed for lack of workers, rising prices, and
supply disruptions. Even where things are getting better, Biden doesn’t get credit.”

Adding to the Democrats’ problems is that while they hoped the infrastructure and social spending bills would help them in
the midterm elections, Third Way found little evidence that these would help them at the ballot box. They also found that
Biden voters “do not necessarily blame him for ongoing problems with the delta variant, inflation, or supply chain
bottlenecks,” however they don’t have a lot of good things to say about Biden either. They describe Biden as a
disappointment. “They were reluctant to say he’s not up to the job, but they don’t feel like he’s getting it done right now.”

Gee, I wonder why?

How many people want turkey or ham for a wedding or birthday? These are at best sliced lunch meats.

I don't see why so many people despise turkey. I'm not a huge fan of

most people only have it once per year.

I saw those bags at Kroger as well. There must be a market for them or they
wouldn't be available.
Post by jmcquown
I hear ya. Even when I was a kid the Thanksgiving and Christmas meals
were always served early in the day, never later than 2PM. It makes
sense to have the bigger meal earlier. :)
We're eating at 4:00 and I'd prefer 2:00 but I'm not hosting so I just along
with the plan.
they have been available everywhere since I was a child. I would
think the advantage is that the bread is already dried for you.
Janet US
I don't think we're talking about the same thing. These weren't bags of
dried stuffing bread cubes or crumbled bread. They were fresh torn
pieces of bread in a bag. In the fresh baked goods area.

Cindy Hamilton
glad I read your post, something was missing from my stuffing. I
forgot the pepper. Using ground beef as Mom always did.

My brother got us a meal from one of the hotels. It was pretty good. The stuffing was "Portuguese stuffing." I've never heard of it, nobody has. It was a black stuffing with some Chinese taste to it. It was pretty strange. Other than that, a good time was had by all. Later on, we played Bingo. I kept falling asleep during Bingo.
