The most obvious immediate benefit is that persons already subscribing

Just like in the UK Amazon Prime subscription increased by £30.00 when
video was added!

I find Amazon Prime movies to be so horribly unusable that I never watch
anything on it. Can't imagine the music service would be anything
better. The primary purpose of the Prime movies seems to be to sell you
DVDs.

My experience with the video service has been OK. We don't use it much,
but the streams have been reliable and of good quality. We use their
PS3 app for viewing. We've watched mostly TV shows: Alpha House and
Orphan Black.

At first glance the music service is a little underwhelming. The seem
to be focused on big name artists, and selected tracks. Not my area of
interest. Maybe it will improve.

One nice thing they did was to preload a "Library" page in the mobile
app with music I'd purchased on physical formats over the last few
years. That's actually pretty handy.

It's always nice to have options, but given where they are and the fact
that I'm enjoying my Beats subscription, I don't see myself using Amazon
Music all that much.

The main purpose of the amazon app is to sell music which is ok. I do
like the fact that you can buy a cd and also have a good rip to listen
to at once. That it also let's you listen to some albums is a nice
bonus. It's not going to repace google or spotify for a good, pretty
complete music source.

Tapatalk gave me this handy App for my Nexus 7 :-)

Interesting -- I've found Amazaon prime movies work fine on my iPad,
computer, or on my tv via a Roku box. The menu/selection functions fine
and haven't had issues with the streaming itself. The current music
selection seems much less extensive than most other services (they boast
"over a million songs", which is a small fraction of Spotify, Rhapsody,
and probably others).

And my cursory initial search fails to find any music that I want that
is not available via Rhapsody.

But as someone else has already pointed out, the main appeal would
likely be for someone who already has Amazon Prime, but does not have
Rhapsody, Spotify, or the like.

Speaking of Rhapsody, is it still working on Squeezeboxes? I'm thinking
of re-subscribing now that MOG is dead. The Rhapsody pages note
compatibility with the Logitech UE Radio, but nothing re Logitech
Squeezebox. I wasn't sure if that was because of incompatibility, or
because it's a discontinued line so they don't bother to cross-brand.

Rhapsody is still working fine with my Touch and Radio (the "regular"
Radio, not UE).

In what way? Lower bitrate? More compression?

A couple of quotes from news articles concerning Amazon Prime Music:

"Play Music streams at a variable bitrate by default, but discerning
ears can opt to listen only at its "high quality" setting of 256kbps."
- The Verge

"For streaming, sound quality will be adjusted for available
connectivity, which will range from a high bit rate of 256k to a low of
48k" - BillboardBiz

I didn't think anyone did 48K anymore...YIKES! I guess that's for those
that connect with a tin can & string!

I suspect the 48kbps is what it drops to on a "not strong" 3G connection
on one's phone. There are ipad/iphone apps for Amazon prime streaming.

I doubt that I'll ever use the music streaming much, since I have plenty
of other options, including streaming my own LMS library to my phone and
to a Boom or Radio when I travel. But since I already have Prime, it
doesn't bother me having the option available.

+1. I've streamed lots of movies via Amazon Prime both through Roku and
built in app on smartTV. Not much interest in music streaming from
them as I use Spotify for that currently.

I've never had any problems with streaming. I was referring to Amazon's
web interface. For players with software that use their API, I imagine
it's much better.

As a matter of fact, I'm browsing Amazon's web interface right now and
it looks like it's improved quite a bit from the last time I looked at
it. A lot more like Netflix now.

Did you guys really do a close analysis of the stuff on Amazon Prime
music? In just 30 seconds I did a quick scan through some of my
favorite artists and then a few up-and-comers that I've listened to
lately and I found LOTS of holes in Amazon Prime music. Yeah, it's
great that it's free with my Amazon Prime subscription, but doesn't look
anywhere as comprehensive as Rhapsody, Spotify, Xbox Music, etc.

I think it's fairly well known that Amazon Prime's music library is a
fraction of the size of that of Spotify and other services.

Of what they do have they are only letting the Prime app access to a
very small portion. Unless you want to buy of course.

Bit late to the party but I like a bit of something for nothing (well I
had prime anyway and never noticed the music). I have a multitude of
amazon devices for the video service the main one being the amazon fire
TV which is hooked up to my amp so can use prime music there, my hole is
in the kitchen where my boom lives? I have the amazon app on my phone
and have a bluetooth speaker but would be a lot easier on the boom if
anybody comes up with something? I'm still a physical music man so not
really embraced any of the streaming services, so this is a nice
introduction even if not to the spotify levels.

Just tried the new (at least over here) Amazon Music streaming service
on my Android device.

Quite interesting since it is free for Prime Members.
If I recall it correctly they grant access to around 1milllion tracks.
Not too bad.

It's just mp3 though. However for backround noise its quite usable.

I'll keep the fingers crossed that one day we'll see a LMS plugin or an
app on mysqueezebox.com.

I have found a workaround way to do this using
http://www.streamwhatyouhear.com/ and then tuning LMS into the resulting
stream. Basically this software turns the sound card output of your PC
into either an mp3 or WAV/PCM stream.

Windows only.
I think it should be possible to run it on the same Windows PC as LMS as
it uses entirely different port range.

Note - on install it crashed on my W10 box but after a restart it was
fine.

Definitely not a long term solution.

For 'free' (if you have Amazon Prime) it's pretty awesome. It's not a
replacement for something like Spotify or Napster in terms of available
catalogue but it does have a lot of good stuff. You can also download
music to your mobile device to listen to offline too, using the Amazon
player app.

I can't ever see it supporting Squeezebox/LMS though :-/

I'm finding myself using Bluetooth audio streaming directly from my
phone or tablet to my Hifi more than listening on my Squeezebox Classic
in recent times ...... Still getting good use out of the Boom and
Radios as they have the USP of having built in amplification and
speakers but even there I could just use portable bluetooth speakers and
use my mobile as the source (of course, you can install a Squeezebox
player app on Android too). Or hook up a bluetooth receiver box to the
Boom I guess.

Highly unlikely as their objective is to sell Amazon Echo's and Kindle
Android devices etc and AFAIK there are no plans to launch an API. I
suppose it is possible that they will release something for mainstream
hardware manufacturers but that must be a low priority for now.

I have a workaround to play Amazon Music on squeeze - for iOS device
owners only.

First I activate the shairtunes2 plugin.
All squeezeclients will then be offered as airplay devices on
iPad/iPhone.

Then open Amazon Music App and select the Airplay output device of
choice.

Works great.

We now have a great workaround for both iOS and Android in the form of
our new Bluetooth plugin! The plugin allows you to pair your
phone/tablet with the Pi and automatically reconnect after pairing. It
then lets you either feed the audio from the phone/tablet directly to
the preferred audio outlet by selecting the "Pulse"-option in our
Squeezelite audio player or, even better, you can establish the
connection as a "radio channel" in your native Squeezebox Server to
immediately feed all your Squeeze players with the phone/tablet's audio
stream.
This way, you can easily use the Amazon Prime Music app on Android or
iOS to start playing your music from Amazon. Or really from any other
App or stream on your phone for that matter.

You can find the option by installing the Bluetooth plugin on Max2Play
and making a beta update (premium only).

Hmmh.

That's an unacceptable option to me.

1. I'd never go for Max2Play (Nice try to do some marketing)
2. You're leaving the squeeze universe.
3. You need pulseaudio (which is basically a mixer with awful samplerate
conversion) - which would all but acceptable to me
4. I prefer WLAN over bluetooth.

But that're just my 2cents.

That is a very cludgy workaround!

Bluetooth is compressed and lossy and I for one can hear it.

My preferred workaround remains a separate WindowsPC and
Streamwhatyouhear. You then "tune in URL". It's PCM.

Hi d6jg and soundcheck,

Thanks for the feedback! It is true that the Bluetooth signal does not
support the highest bitrates out there. However, the idea was originally
conceived to find a solution to play Audible audio books with our images
on the Raspberry Pi. Audible does not support and thus cannot directly
work with the Squeezebox environment. With our Bluetooth plugin, it is
now both possible to play an Audible stream (or any other stream from
your smartphone/tablet) directly to your Pi via Pulse or establish the
previously mentioned second alternative of creating a favorite stream
"Bluetooth *yourdevice*" in the Squeezebox Server that will play the
output from your smartphone/tablet directly to all selected Squeezebox
players you select.
Consequently, I thought this also make a great workaround for the
missing Amazon Prime Music plugin in the Squeezebox system. And any
other missing services under Squeezebox. The key component we
established is the possibility to start a stream for your smartphone or
tablet with just one click that can be used by all Squeeze players in
the environment.

Just because you can does not mean you should!

I tried this, and indeed could find my players on the iphone. When I
selected one and streamed music to them, the album art appeared on the
controller screen, but no music played. Upon closer inspection, I found
a message on the controller that the connection timed out. I also have
some Logitech Internet Radios, and tried streaming to them, and the same
thing happened.

Any ideas?

Hi all,
First post here. I know it's unlikely but maybe Amazon will reconsider
if they get enough signs of interest for a plugin. Afterall, they stand
to earn far more from repeating subscriptions than from one off Echo
purchases! I think the Echo etc. is designed to push Amazon Music subs
and not the other way around ;-)

So anyway I created a petition you might like to sign and let's see what
happens. Obviously it is far more effective if we share the petition via
social media as nobody will find it by chance.

Thx all.

Is it free with Prime?

Or is this the new Prime with films and stuff that they doubled the
membership price for?

free with prime (there is only one "prime" as far as I know). It used to
by $79/year and they raised it for all to (I think) $99. I'm a member
because of streaming free movies, TV shows and the free shipping for the
seemingly hundreds of things we buy from Amazon. And the music streaming
comes at no additional charge. I played with it a little on my iphone
with the amazon app. Don't really need it at the moment for my
squeezeboxes (between spotify, my own music, and other free stuff
(internet radio). But if an app worked with it, that would be fine with
me (particularly if it didn't require mysb.com). That is, something like
triode's spotify 3rd party app.

Their movie app on my tv is basically unusable but the one on my Sony
bluray player isn't too bad. Made it at least another option to Netflix.

I just took a look at the music library that Amazon is offering and
there are many artists and albums that I like. I would love to be able
to play them on my SBT.

Please someone help create an app.

Nothing terribly wrong with Amazon. Prime offers additional benefits
including this one. Why not use it? I have a very old Squeezebox 3
which still works perfectly. Use it all the time and would very much
like to have this service added, but I don't have a clue how to do this.
One of you experts could probably enable this with your eyes closed...selizaga wrote:
