By the way, Alain, for full-price CDs (and it still makes sense to get as
many of them as you can and to buy budget CDs later, with your own cash)

catalogues -- except perhaps for some really old items of preponderantly
collector and archival interest (or of some not really good sounding live
recordings), many of the issues of all three labels offer extraordinarily
valuable musical treasures in exceptional transfers. If you want I can get
more specific but I have the feeling that you would know what you might
enjoy once you take a look. Buying directly from them where possible is
also recommendable -- if not in disagreement with the insurance company's
terms -- insofar more of the profit would go to the labels themselves, in
the hard times we're experiencing.

The only criteria you set is "full-priced." Then I noticed
my recent purchases are almost lower priced reissues and box
sets or used CDs. Anyway, here are some:

person who asks me "what's Haapanen" will get bopped on the head by this
here lollipop) which has masqueraded as it from time to time. The first
issue of the "real" one known to me was on an obscure label called YLE,
with the catalogue number CDY 231, entitled "Jean Sibelius - Live"; other
contents are "En Saga" with Kletzki from 1958, and a 1954 David Oistrakh
performance of the Violin Concerto with Nils-Erik Fougstedt; the Finnish
National Radio Orchestra performs in all selections.

Unfortunately, from the timing I've seen on the CD (which I have therefore
not bought) I suspect that the Ondine issue has been shorn of the spoken
announcement which seems to "authenticate" the performance as genuine. The
YLE disc times out at 7:38, including the announcement.

I couldn't even begin to pick 5 favourites from my ~1700 CD's. I might be
able to manage my 100 favourites, though even that varies from day to day.

are on a pair of Phillips Duos, and the Rowicki/LSO Dvorak symphonies
are on a trio, same label.

Looks like it's time to get a clarification from the insurance company!
See whether they will allow restatement of the settlement as "236 full-
priced CDs, or the cash equivalent in lower-priced CDs."

By the way, are you interested in replacing any of those you lost?

My earlier suggestions were all over the map, price wise. In the spirit of
optimizing this opportunity, here's a full price one from one of my Wish
Lists/shopping carts (ie, love it, want to buy it, too cheap to do so at
present...):

"Arias for Farinelli" Genaux, Jacobs, Akademie für Alte Musik (Harmonia
Mundi HMC 901778) Has excellent liner notes and complete texts

Also, two other personal favourites which are at full-price or close to it:

Vivaldi: Motets for Soprano (Karina Gauvin, Analekta FL 2-3099) Contains:
Laudate pueri Dominum in C minor, RV 600, O qui coeli, RV 631, and Sum in
medio tempestatum, RV 632

Reimann: Lear (Fischer-Dieskau, Dernesch, Albrecht, DG 2GH2 463-480). The
CD release doesn't have the spiffy book that came with the LP but it does
have a libretto.

Further to my earlier suggestion of John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme", there
is a higher priced version 2 CD version currently out which is remastered
and has additional takes, if you don't have it already.

for the the cost of 236 full-priced CDs, I'd get better value from 500 or
more mid-priced or bargain favourites, but then it is your call.

Horowitz Schumann Jacket Collection MS 7264 Sony

For what this costs you can get the entire Sony box from MDT. That is
something to consider too, where you order your CDs from to maximize your
funds.

And one can even shop around and find sealed record club editions of the Sony
box on eBay or other such venues. That's how I got mine for <$105.

I hate to ask, but is the BMG Horowitz box gone, or even gone gone?

Well, I imagine so, but I felt that as long as I was outside the USA, I
might as well check for these things. The Naxos displays at the HMV Store
had all of the Met and Toscanini product right out there in the open.

The distribution situation is getting rather desperate almost everywhere.
For example, the Pavane and Ondine labels are no longer distributed in the
UK, even though they have some US distribution. So UK customers may have to
start making some of their purchases from Germany or even the US. As a US
record collector, I sure wish jpc's postal rates to the US were not so
outlandishly high.

You should check out the EMI set, which I find a lot more poetic (the DG has
more fire). The sound is also very good.
