Tried to make Johnny Ace sound like the Moonglows.
R&B vocal group collectors were always talking about how great Ace's records would have been if they had a vocal group behind him. Loads of vocal groups did "Never Let You Go."

But that background is straight out of Sincerely.

So? They combined 2 great records to make a hybrid. "My Song" by Little Milton is a killer IMO. I guess I like the Ace version slightly better, but both get an 8, and the Milton is as close as we're gonna get to having Ace's version with a vocal group behind him.

When this was discussed various ideas were thrown around of which group would back him. I'm sure the Moonglows were mentioned.

My Song - Little Milton
Milton's version is right up there---only Ace's definitive original
and Aretha's superb 1968 version better it IMO.

There' were nice covers from Johnny Moore's Three Blazers,Marie
Adams,Dinah Washington and Hadda Brooks.

Hell, there was even a so-so country version from Curly Wiggins

I guess I should have kept the Nathaniel Mayer instead of dropping it for the Milton. Never did I think that the Puente would go further than the Milton. Still 2 ballots to come though, Milton is not out yet.

The Solitaires and Gospelaires will advance. The Everlys and Milton are going bye bye. Just need Jim's ballot to finalize things.

FINAL RANKINGS

1. Ride This Train - The Gospelairs - 33
2. The Time Is Here - Solitaires - 31

3. My Song - Little Milton - 28
4. Just In Case - Everly Brothers - 28

Milton edges the Everlys for 3rd place on the tie breaker, but it's small consolation as both are out.
