If my quick mental inventory is correct, there are 21 objects in my
house that have some timekeeping capacity[1]. Ten of them set
themselves - and the others I don't bother with, because I don't care
in the least what time they think it is. (One of which is an _actual
clock_ which I just haven't gotten around to goodwilling yet.)

[1] Excluding decommissioned computers, phones, etc. and a telescope
mount which forgets its time when it's unplugged (and which I don't
expect to ever use again), and possibly excluding a 'smart' TV which I
do not allow to be smart.

I actually would use the kitchen clock, which has been gradually
setting itself towards Standard Time for the past couple of weeks. I
expect my roommate will re-set it. She's been advised to change the
battery while it's off the wall. Why is it so hard to align a wall
clock onto a simple nail when putting them back?

Because while trying to put, not the nail into the hole, but the
hole onto the nail, you can't see either one.

I still remember Windows 95. At 2:00 AM on the specified date it
reset itself to 1:00 AM. An hour later, it was 2:00 AM on the
specified date ...

It really burned us at a place I used to work. We had nightly jobs
that did a lot of important summary and update tasks. I think they
ran at like 2:30am, so the Spring Forward completely skipped over the
trigger time. Why we weren't running those servers in GMT I'm not sure..

My two brothers and I climbed all over the Stonehenge rocks in 1973 when
we lived in England. I can assure you that they do not move. At all.

BTW, DST sucks. Except for "Fall Back", I like that one.

You don't need to specify "except". On Sunday, we got RID OF DST.

My proposal is double daylight time. In November we jump ahead *another*
hour. Darkness at 5 sucks..

If we absolutely MUST adjust our clocks (a premise I don't agree with)
then let's just move them half an hour ONCE and be done with it.

You're going to have darkness in some portion of the 24-hour day
anyway. Six months of it, if you live at one of the poles. If
you live at the equator, it'll be pretty much 12 hours
year-round.

Britain did just that during WW2, to save energy
