Discussion:
When a black woman is accused of murdering a white woman

... most of the press reports show a picture of the Asian man accused of
assisting her (presumably of disposing of the body, I haven't looked
into it that much) but no-one seems to want to show a picture of the
alleged murderess. Even an image search on "Gareeca Conita Gordon", the
name of the alleged murderess, brings up 10 pictures of the man who
allegedly helped her but only 2 pictures of her.

It would be racial profiling to show a black woman as black.

Isn’t murderess sexist?

I don’t believe murderer to have any gender bias, although I realise you
probably did it deliberately; but that just adds to the irony of racist
implication.

So how does the rest of Europe get by, when most nouns in most
languages have a gender (to use the word correctly)?

Maybe they just ignore the implications of gender?

They know them off by heart, as they learned them at school.

Very probably. And the same is true of proper English words such as
actress, conductress, authoress and seamstress, surely?

'Actress' is disappearing in favour of 'actor' for both sexes.
Prostitutess disappeared long ago.

a picture of the alleged murderess. Even an image search on
"Gareeca Conita Gordon", the name of the alleged murderess, brings
up 10 pictures of the man who allegedly helped her but only 2
pictures of her.
Isn’t murderess sexist?
I don’t believe murderer to have any gender bias, although I realise
you probably did it deliberately; but that just adds to the irony of
racist implication.
Oddly, I've never heard that waitresses prefer to be called waiters.
You will. Just give it time.

But, of course, actors and actresses are 'special'.
Stewardesses became flight attendants instead of stewards. Are they
'special' too?
I think of them as trolley dollies and male trolly dollies. Like
strippers and male strippers.

When the word 'stripper' was coined, nobody imagined there's be male
strippers. That's probably why it wasn't 'stripperess' originally.

Yes, painting and decorating used to be a more or less all-male profession.

But it's changing. So is plumbing.

Indeed. There's only so much you can do with a 'degree' in gender
studies!

However, the grammatical gender does not always correspond to
biological sex. German has "das Fräulein" and "das Mädchen", both
neuter because the grammatical suffix takes priority over any other
consideration. Another one is "die Ratte", which is feminine but can
also mean a male rat.

Indeed. Even in this day and age, there are people who shy away from
the word "sex".

Have you seen the term "Latinx" which is becoming common in the US? Groo!

Liza Estrada, 22, a student at San Francisco State University, said she
first became aware of "Latinx" on Twitter. She praised the fact that
it's becoming more common in her academic life. "Professors at my
school have started incorporating the term as well, which is really
great. It's a huge step that teachers are becoming aware about the
nonbinary students in their classes and aiming at inclusivity,"

Grammatical gender is different from natural gender. In Old English, for
example, the word for woman is "wif", which is a neuter noun. The word for
man, on the other hand, is masculine but actually refers to either gender.

There is no 'natural' gender: that's called sex. Gender is strictly
a grammatical term.

I used the English language correctly, deliberately.
I usually do, deliberately.

White. Difficulty in working out who she was, along with needing to
contact relatives before going public with her identity, mean that you
can't read too much into a lack of photo in early reports.

sounds quite horror scenario as they showed picture of her, the picture
showed her as in the marriageable stage, quite pretty, raped young... yet
another victim of feminism and political correctness eh!
