Forgive the intrusion, but I'm looking for somewhere to stay for a week or
so for myself, my daughter and our dog. I seem to recall a caravan park
near Hayle which led onto a beach that allowed dogs but when I was in
Cornwall at Easter, I could not find it.
I would be prefer to be around the St Ives area and can go any time within
the school holidays.
East Looe has one no dogs beach, and another dog friendly beach. On the
other side of the river is Hannafore Point, and dogs are allowed on the
foreshore there, mind you it is a bit rocky in places.

I'm fairly sure Par is a dog-friendly beach.
My wife and I had a run out this afternoon - there were dozens of dogs on
Perranporth beach.

Shame all other shit machine owners aren't as caring as you! Have a gold

Can you answer me this?
Why is it that when a dog eats a can of food why does it proceed to shit
two cans out the other end?

Thanks, but most of the dog owners I know clean up after their pets.
Judging by the constant flow of crisp packets chocolate bar wrappers
various other detritus that blows into my garden the same cannot be said
for parents and their children. I imagine it's no better on beaches. I
even saw used nappies lying on one beach once.

No idea, my dog's food comes in a big bag.

You seem overly preoccupied with excrement. Perhaps you attract it.

'Thanks, but most of the dog owners I know clean up after their pets.'

Then you are fortunate to live in an area where people care? Unfortunately
you and your fellow dog owners are in a minority.
Evidence this by walking down a Greater London street, and feeling very
fortunate you have not squelched a pile underfoot!

I also agree that human beings are increasingly careless with litter. We
live in an increasingly lawless society where it seems fashionable to
'chuck it' out of a car window rather than take it home and bin it. Can't
comment on nappies, we use nappy sacks and bin them.

'You seem overly preoccupied with excrement. Perhaps you attract it'.

Yes Sir, you said it!

If you're willing to go slightly further North, the area between Newquay and
Padstow has plenty - Watergate, Mawgan Porth, Porthcothan are 3 that spring
to mind and I'm sure there are more. It's just a pity I don't live there
any more :-(
Yes, I stayed near Mawgan Porth last year. It seems like they have
extended the ban on dogs to the whole of the Hayle Towans, though why they
could not have left one small section of a 3 mile beach seems crazy.

I also used to use a National Trust beach (which was completely covered by
the sea twice a day) When they banned dogs from that, they lost my
membership.

They banned them because of the mess! Not because of you. It is a simple
fact that most dog owners are irresponsible, but not you. It is like litter
louts they are uneducated yobs.
May not be an issue soon. My daughter want to go to Greece. The way
things are it costs about the same.

You are not wrong there. Where in Greece does she want to go? May be able to
assist there?
Not really bothered. Good beaches and not too commercial would be my
preference

Try Skiathos. Avoid Corfu and Rhodes. Crete is very nice but again be
careful, parts are getting very 'clubby' with 'larger louts'.

Hi Geoff
Perranporth, Par, Watergate Bay & Rock are all pretty much dog
friendly. Just watch out for holidayers that think they arent!
Watergate Bay has a great caravan park at the top and is just far
enough away from Newquay.
Hope this help
Richard
Forgive the intrusion, but I'm looking for somewhere to stay for a week or
so for myself, my daughter and our dog. I seem to recall a caravan park
near Hayle which led onto a beach that allowed dogs but when I was in
Cornwall at Easter, I could not find it.
I would be prefer to be around the St Ives area and can go any time within

I am a dog warden for south east Cornwall...
All beaches in Cornwall have banned dogs in the summer time - Lets keep it
that way.
This is one of my most called upon duties - to fine people who flout the
law!! - think on...
For more details contact Cornwall County Council at Truro.
Having said that, there are some private beaches that do allow dogs.

Odd - if you were a dog warden for SE Cornwall you'd know that Caradon
District Council has 9 beaches open all year for
dogs.KIngsand,Whitsand,Downderry,Seaton,Plaidy
Beach,Hannafore,Talland,Lantivet Bay and Lantic Bay.
Talland Beach is owned by Ian Slee who owns the beach cafe, and I was
recently told that dogs are banned. I may well see him tomorrow, so I'll
ask.

I know our dog warden quite well (a really lovely chap...an ex policeman,
who puts in a lot of hours into keep our lane clean) but I don't recognise
your name.
Hannafore Beach (West Looe) is open to people with dogs all year round. We
have a few discusting inderviduals that 'can't be bothered/won't be
bothered' to pick up after thier dogs, but the majority of the locals are
most certainly vigilant about dog mess. To be absolutely honest I can't see
our genuine, caring people who post here being the sort who would allow
there dogs to be so objectionable. The holiday makers are another story,
once again the vast majority are very respectful and clear up, but there are
exceptions to every rule.
The holiday makers here are usually wonderful and they bring life and
prosperity to our little town but that isn't always the case.
I have met people who have 'ignored' what there dog is doing on the end
their own lead and looked the other way but maybe we can help by providing
more bins?
Very little can change peoples standards when they are on holiday, but we
can only hope they will make improvements.
All the best,
Denise.
