Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib demands Detroit Police only hire blacks to
operate facial recognition software because "non-African Americans think all
blacks look alike".

The most encouraging thing about this video is that you can tell the other
two people with her clearly seem to realize that she's batshit crazy.
Deputy Police Chief James Craig says that if he said that he would have to
resign.

Except she didn't say that. You're quoting an extremist source

Further, nothing about this in the Detroit newspaper.

Sigh;

Rashida Tlaib, the freshman Democratic representative from Michigan, has been accused of racism following comments she made demanding that Detroit's chief of police only hire black analysts for the city's facial recognition crime centers.

Apparently, Tlaib doesn't get that the facial recognition SOFTWARE is
deciding which faces match whatever they're searching for, not the
people who are running the software. If the software can't distinguish
between black faces - which may be the case - it's the fault of the
software, not the operators.
But what can you expect of someone who probably knows nothing about
computers or policing?
And what can we expect of someone like "Rhino" who refuses
to understand the slightest concepts of what's going on
with how this software has been designed?

Oh really? What's your background with software and computing? I wrote
my first code in 1973, very possibly before you were even born, and have
continued to code ever since.

Do you know anything about the subject?

Are you proud of demonstrating just how stupid you sound?

On the very slim chance you really don't have a clue
as to what's going on outside your mom's basement:

The MIT Media Lab is one of those groups way above
any of our pay grades whose pronouncements are
definitely worth paying attention to.

The Epstein reference was to the recent scandal in which
it turned out he had given them (as well as lots of
other instituions) plenty of contributions. But in
their case, it wasn't just to get attaboys and positive
recognition, but there were some pretty close connections
between him and some of the top people.

it turned out he had given them (as well as lots of
other instituions) plenty of contributions. But in
their case, it wasn't just to get attaboys and positive
recognition, but there were some pretty close connections
between him and some of the top people.
And how does Epstein's donations to MIT refute anything I've said?

Here's a little primer for you since you admit to not knowing a whole
lot about computers. (Or at least I *think* you admitted that but it was
in one of your less coherent paragraphs so I could be wrong.)

A facial recognition system is going to compare one photograph to a
series of photographs in a database. The photographs will have been
taken by cameras, perhaps without any human intervention. The system
will compare the target picture to each of the ones in the database
until it finds one that is a close match. The computer itself is not
human and has no biases against different "races"; ditto for the cameras
or databases. I defy you to tell me how a computer or camera could be
racist.

Now, the facial recognition system is presumably initiated by a human
being. SOMEONE is going to decide which picture is being searched in the
database. They will presumably supply the clearest available picture of
the person who the police are trying to find so the operator will give
that to the system. Assuming they actually supply a picture of the right
person and not some innocent third party, the system will do the rest.
Now, the input parameters for the search MIGHT conceivably include an
option for setting how close the match has to be. In a perfect world,
starting with a perfectly clear and perfectly lit photo, the match would
also have to be 100% and you wouldn't need to specify a percentage. But
the picture the police have may not be perfect; it could be blurry, the
lighting might be bad, and the face in their picture might be at an
angle that makes it hard to compare with the pictures in a mug shot,
which means a 100% match might never match ANYTHING in the database. So,
it's possible there is an option to lower the percentage to, say, 95% or
90%, just to get some suspects.

An ethical operator will know that any hits that turn up in that search
are only POSSIBLE matches and will advise his police colleagues only
that this person is SIMILAR but not a perfect match. Now, the human
investigators COULD demonstrate some sort of racial bias by preferring
one of the people on the suspect list "because he's black and we all
know those blacks are all criminals at heart" (or similar racist
garbage) but it's NOT the software that's being racist.

I would be happy to discuss with you further if any of that is not clear
but if you abuse me again, I *will* killfile you as a waste of my time.
Your choice: learn something or just fling abuse at people who are
trying to help you understand something outside of your field of
expertise, whatever that is.

Earlier posts in the thread pointed out the _fact_ that

I pulled up the MIT Media Lab report that confirmed this.

While you are correct in suggesting there may be issues with facial
recognition and race that doesn't really impact the original complaint
about bias from the operators of such software. The issues with race
should be able to be resolved by training the software on similar
number of faces of all races.

Fixing perception issues where people make incorrect assumptions as in
the original complainant is going to be nearly impossible as those
assumptions likely can't be corrected by going over the facts of how
facial recognition software works and how little control the operators
have over the software.

I'm sorry that you are having trouble keeping up with the two issues
raised in this discussion. So much so that you can't even see when
someone is agreeing with you on the issue of racial bias in facial
recognition software.

I also wonder if you are suggesting that I'm a sock puppet for Rhino

Nothing to say on Trump's impending impeachment, then?
I didn't think your balls grew back, and here's our proof.
Look... that's not important. AOC is important. Omar is important.

16 year old developmentally disabled little girl is important.
The POTUS committing crimes, lying about them and covering them up -
that's NOTHING!
Except he's doing no such thing.
Do try to stick with facts, eh?
Twitski using facts? That would be a first.
Inviting foreign powers to meddle in US elections is a crime.
Alert the media to investigate the Dems then since the Russians were
helping Hillary.

Ukraine is a foreign power.
China is a foreign power.
You know that. You just don't care that you support a traitor.
Looks like FPP has become completely unhinged.

Enjoy the short-lived power.
Your party is dead.
If you think this non-impeachment will get the Dems elected, you may
find yourself very surprised.

He still hasn't recovered from Trump's landslide victory.

If FPP weren't such a congenital liar, I'd be worried about him felating one
of his firearms after President Trump gets re-elected by a larger landslide
victory.

Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib demands Detroit Police only hire blacks to
operate facial recognition software because "non-African Americans think all
blacks look alike".
https://twitter.com/RealSaavedra/status/1179579104472944640?s=20
The most encouraging thing about this video is that you can tell the other
two people with her clearly seem to realize that she's batshit crazy.
Deputy Police Chief James Craig says that if he said that he would have to
resign.
https://twitter.com/RealSaavedra/status/1179580373895806977?s=20
Pretty analogous to the new racist show ALL RISE
Ok, I'll bite. What's racist about All Rise?

Ok, I'll bite. What's racist about All Rise?
The preview show consisted almost entirely of them saying "White Men Can't
Judge"

Over and over they point to people of color - almost all women - and say
what's wrong with America is that judges don't look like those people.

Can't say I noticed that about the first episode. The second one was
eyeball rolling about Evil ICE enforcing the law. The judge,
prosecutor, and defense attornies conspired together to stop Evil ICE.

I don't know if the preview footage was from the show or not. And I never
will :)
