What did you watch?
The Dark (Prime) - Note: This is the 2018 film, not the 2005 film with
Maria Bello and Sean Bean (which I think may have also seen, some time
back...) This was sort of interesting, and I liked where they were
trying to go with it... the problem is that I don't feel like they
*justified* the result.
This stars Nadia Alexander (who was in "Blame" that I watched
yesterday) as a cursed undead teen zombie girl who lives in a forest
searching out human flesh. Unfortunately, the film takes quite a while
to get to her, and starts with an old guy who is apparently a serial
child molester who is trying to escape the authorities. So he heads to
a section of a forest called "Devil's Glen(?)". Of course, there he
runs across the Zombie girl who promptly gets him (justice!!).
But then she discovers the molester's victim (whom the molester has
blinded) in the molester's car. Long-story short: Discovering the
abused boy (he's actually around 13-14 from the looks of it) starts an
existential crisis for the cursed undead zombie girl. (We also start
getting her backstory.)
Anyway, like I said - I kind of like what they were trying to do
here (though this film is very... *deliberative* in its pace), but I
don't feel the events of the film justified the ending - This felt like
it needed a few more passes through the typewriter.

soaps: B&B - Unfortunately, it was mostly stasis in the Sally-Penny-Flo
storyline - while both Penny and Flo realize that Sally, and her plan
to get Wyatt back is *crazy*, Dr. Penny refuses to side with Flo, so
Flo remains tied up. But Flo manages to knock Sally out for a second,
and writes something on Sally's leg - likely some kind of message to
Wyatt. Meanwhile, Steffi mostly whines about Liam and Hope, and then
manages to crash on her motorcycle!
DOOL - This episode was almost entirely HottCiara's and Ben Weston's
wedding, and HottCiara's wedding dress was ridiculous! - showing *that
much cleavage* in a wedding dress is in really poor taste!! Anyway, the
only interesting parts were the side parts with Crazy Claire and her
mother (and they mostly disappear from the second half of the episode)
- Claire admits that she's ready to abandon Salem and go to Hong Kong.
But the bomb goes off at the end of the episode (mostly impacting Ben,
which is ridiculous considering the *size* of the bomb they showed!!),
and Claire will end up being suspect #1.

Vagrant Queen (Spectrum app) - Ep's #1.9 & 1.10, so I finished out the
series. The final two episodes were mostly satisfying (though generally
lacking in the show's usual silly humor), and they mostly wrapped all
storylines... until the very ending when they introduced a very
unwelcome cliffhanger. It's too bad this show wasn't cancelled before
production ended, as all they needed to do is cut, like, the last 30
seconds from this last episode and it would have made for a
satisfactory series finale.

Better Watch Out (Prime) - This 2016 flick is one of the newer
"Christmas horror" flicks, though the Christmas elements are almost
entirely incidental here... This is also maybe a horror "satire" flick
as well.
As such, it's actually quite similar in tone with "The Babysitter"
(2017). However, I thought this flick was *much better* than "The
Babysitter" (I never really bought into the latter film). "Better Watch
Out" has a completely unexpected twist 20-30 minutes into the flick
which spins it off into an entirely new direction, and from this point
forward I had no idea how it was going to turn out. Which is a good
thing... Anyway, I liked this all the way up to the ending, which I
quite liked. But they should have cut the "coda" scene - it was
unnecessary, and added nothing to the experience.
Anyway, I'd recommend this to anyone who liked something like "The
Babysitter".

Recorded for later: Agents of SHIELD!!

I saw the Sean Bean movie, but I'm not familiar with this. I'm not a
fan of deliberative pace. That's just another way of saying tedious.

Agreed. But I can live with the cliffhanger.

I very much agree. I don't remember what the twist is, but I do
remember being caught off guard by it and liking this movie a lot when I
saw it.

Recorded for later: Agents of SHIELD!!
I was so wrapped up in Stargate DVDs that I completely forgot about
SHIELD! Then again, I was thinking it aired tonight, so I didn't bother
to check the DVR. Can you confirm, did Stargirl actually air Monday
night? My DVR didn't record it and it's not available on OnDemand. I
have hadn't any luck with my local CW station. I have no idea what's
going on with it.

I watched:

Stargate Atlantis (season 3 DVD)

"The Game" - The Atlantis gang play their own version of The Sims, only
using real people on a primitive planet. Filler episode.

"The Ark" - The gang find survivors of a dead civilization in storage on
a hollowed out moon and need to save the day. Sounds like a Star Trek
script. Another filler episode.

"Sunday" - The gang take a day off. I knew from the description this was
going to be a filler episode, but for whatever reason I watched it
anyway. Then I was *shocked* when they killed off a regular. I did
*not* see that coming. Had I known, I would have watched the episode
with the commentary track. I wonder why did the actor leave. I sample
a little of the commentary at the end, but they didn't say.

"Submersion" - The gang battle a Wraith Queen in an underwater drilling
platform. I noticed they have been not too subtly changing the design
of the Wraith. In the pilot they were pale white and now they are
closer to neon green.

"Vengeance" – Team Atlantis vs. Aliens, I mean giant bugs, This was a
straight rip off of "Aliens" and once again Michael is back to twist his
mustache and laugh maniacally as he tries to turn Teyla into one of his
bug creatures.

The ep guide said to hold here and switch over to SG-1.

Stargate SG-1 (season 10 DVD)

"The Road not taken" – Carter is accidentally transported to an
alternate universe. And in this universe she's married to McKay. The
horror! This was a pretty good one with an abrupt ending.

"The Shroud" - Daniel is finally back, and he's a Prior. Or is he? Not
bad.

"Bad Guys" - The team pretend to be terrorist while biding time on an
alien planet.

"Talion" – Teal'c gets his vengeance on. Someone was must have been
channeling Michael Bay for the scene where Teal'c beats up a bad guy
stuffs a bomb inside of him then walks away in slow motion as the bomb
explodes behind him.

Stargirl did air -- on *Tuesday* (as usual) It was a good episode.
Another death... It should be streamable from the CW (not KBCW!).

Guess I'm the only one here who's seen this week's Stargirl and S.H.I.E.L.D!
So I won't comment yet. (Except that the latter wasn't that good.)

Yeah -- I hadn't seen the other thread when I said that. Opinions
differ, I guess. I'm not that fond of 'Groundhog Day' plots, and
it seemed as if each loop took whatever variable time it took for
the plot twist. As I saw mentioned in the other thread, though,
the acting, esp. Chloe and Enver, was excellent.

Yeah, Groundhog Day riffs are variable, but there are good ones. Stargate
SGHD1 comes to mind, as does Xena (probably the only good script Hilary Bader
ever wrote). I agree that some loops seemed like they must have gone on way
longer than others.

I was so wrapped up in Stargate DVDs that I completely forgot about SHIELD!
I am currently casting about for new shows to watch, esp. something
"light" (to replace "Vagrant Queen") for lunch viewing.

There are some obvious things I can put in my TV series queue next -
e.g. "Rome" or "Boardwalk Empire" or "Doom Patrol" - but none of these
seem like good lunchtime shows.

I'll be looking at Netflix's offerings again, and may be forced to get
it now - I can probably use something like "The Order" or "The Society"
for this purpose...
Then again, I was thinking it aired tonight, so I didn't bother to

"Stargirl" aired Tuesday night, as usual - I watched the most recent
episode last night (oops! means I forgot to "review" it today!! - I
guess I'll add it to my post for tomorrow's WDYW? thread).
My DVR didn't record it and it's not available on OnDemand.
I think I've already established that The CW app has all episodes of
"Stargirl" right now...
I have hadn't any luck with my local CW station. I have no idea what's

Rome is excellent. If you've never seen it before check it out. I like
Boardwalk Empire, but others like it a lot more than I did. Doom Patrol
may be an acquired taste. I'm waiting for HBO Max or whatever channel
it's on to fully load on Xfinity so I can watch the new season. Last
time I checked, the channel was properly integrated yet.

Once I did a search for "Stargirl" on the Comcast site, and got two
results. One was just "Stargirl." It would only display upcoming
broadcast episodes, nothing On Demand. The other was "DC's Stargirl."
That one had both On Demand episodes and listings for upcoming episodes.
Weird. I just tried it, and got "DC's Stargirl" with all the options,
and no entry for just plain "Stargirl." They may have been playing
games with the title for a while.

That one had both On Demand episodes and listings for upcoming episodes.
Weird. I just tried it, and got "DC's Stargirl" with all the options,
and no entry for just plain "Stargirl." They may have been playing
games with the title for a while.

I read what you wrote, then sort made a mental note to myself, that
maybe that was the problem. But I thought the problem was fixed. I saw
it last week and I thought I set a new series recording. Then I checked
for tonight's airing of Stargirl. Except there is no tonight's airing
of Stargirl. It aired last night and didn't record!!!!! It looks like
they did rename the series to add the DC. Under the new title, I see
all the past episodes. It's added again. Hopefully it sticks this time.

I was so wrapped up in Stargate DVDs that I completely forgot about SHIELD!
I am currently casting about for new shows to watch, esp. something
"light" (to replace "Vagrant Queen") for lunch viewing.
CURSED would be perfect for that!
Post by Ian J. Ball
There are some obvious things I can put in my TV series queue next -
e.g. "Rome" or "Boardwalk Empire" or "Doom Patrol" - but none of these
seem like good lunchtime shows.
Hmm. How about CURSED?
Post by Ian J. Ball
I'll be looking at Netflix's offerings again, and may be forced to get
it now - I can probably use something like "The Order" or "The Society"
for this purpose...
Or CURSED! That would be perfect!
Post by Ian J. Ball
Then again, I was thinking it aired tonight, so I didn't bother to
check the DVR. Can you confirm, did Stargirl actually air Monday night?
"Stargirl" aired Tuesday night, as usual - I watched the most recent
episode last night (oops! means I forgot to "review" it today!! - I
guess I'll add it to my post for tomorrow's WDYW? thread).
My DVR didn't record it and it's not available on OnDemand.
I think I've already established that The CW app has all episodes of
"Stargirl" right now...
I have hadn't any luck with my local CW station. I have no idea what's
going on with it.

That's certainly not going to be a "dinner" show for me - "Rome" is a
much more likely bet for that, or "The Last Kingdom" as soon as I get
Netflix.

'Rome' (the HBO series from some years ago) is definitely not "light".
I haven't seen 'Boardwalk Empire' but I doubt its "light" either.

Don't you have "season pass" functionality on your DVR? It's great for
eliminating the need to remember to record shows every week.

TNT introduced a title for series 2 of The Alienist, which defeated the
entry in the series priority list left over from season 1, so I missed
the first two episodes. I should have checked when Robin posted her
list. Fortunately I noticed that they're being repeated late night
tonight.

Yep - TNT is airing this season as a "weekly miniseries", effectively.

Hm. Yes, it's set to record, but we'll see how cooperative the DVR is
that evening. Thank you for pointing it out.

Survivor is worse still, because they'd not only subname the season, they'd
do it to the recap eps and most egregiously the finale - you might get the
first part of the finale, but Jeff would say 'and the winner is' and it would
cut off, because the rest of it was named SURVIVOR FIJI REUNION or something
you couldn't possibly predict. So you had to remember, and set it manually
from the guide, and then it would fight you if you had padding. Even if you
got the reunion, you didn't get Jeff announcing the winner!

Recorded for later: Agents of SHIELD!!
I was so wrapped up in Stargate DVDs that I completely forgot about
SHIELD!
I forgot it too, and was curious as to what the majik DVR was trying to tell
me it had recorded ...
Post by Arthur Lipscomb
Then again, I was thinking it aired tonight, so I didn't bother
to check the DVR. Can you confirm, did Stargirl actually air Monday
night? My DVR didn't record it and it's not available on OnDemand. I
have hadn't any luck with my local CW station. I have no idea what's
going on with it.
To my knowledge, no one has ever said. The theories all think the actor was
pushed, they didn't jump, either to make room for their replacement, or in a
budget shuffle as they changed leads.
Post by Arthur Lipscomb

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. / 7x09 / As I Have Always Been / 07/22/20

[A time storm ravages the Zephyr, propelling it toward destruction while
simultaneously forcing Daisy and Coulson to relive their failed attempts
to save the team.]

It's time...for a Groundhog Day episode for Daisy and Coulson. And while
I've seen the concept used many times since the classic movie, I can't
recall it ever being more enjoyable and entertaining. This was another
FUN outing and a huge improvement over the previous episode. Making it
even more impressive was the serious turn that it took at the end with
Enoch's sacrifice, which was handled really well by all involved. And
making it all even more impressive still is the fact that it was
directed by Agent Simmons herself in her first directorial effort. In
short, a strong final run is made even stronger by this one.

Grade: A

The scenes of them in post-Enoch battle, lying around all bloody and
