#35 Requesting the entirety of the internet change their font-face css
selectors is not relatively painless, especially when this problem was
caused by D3D font rendering being set to default. It is the browser at
fault.

Can confirm that using the following font-family resolves the issue, but
obviously the bug is still there. We had to fix it on our end because it
made our sites unreadable and therefore could have been driving people away.

Windows Registry editing fixed the font thickness issue for me completely,
we can tune the font thickness/darkness by calibrating FONTSMOOTHINGGAMMA
value to between 150 and 190 hexadecimal( 336 to 400 decimal )

- START -> RUN -> REGEDIT
- search for FONTSMOOTHINGGAMMA by keying "Ctrl F"
( will automatically take us to CurrentUser\ControlPanel\Desktop
path)
- double-click mouse on FONTSMOOTHINGGAMMA enter any
thing between 150 and 190 hexadecimal.
(the Lower the value, the thicker the fonts.)
- close the REGEDIT tool
- LOGOFF and then LOGON

Now all the fonts are very thick & very dark in Chrome Browser.

But we must make sure that ClearType smoothing is enabled in Windows
( controlPanel -> personalization -> appearance
-> Effects -> ClearType smooth check (ticked box) )

OR alternately in RegEdit ...

FONTSMOOTHING=2
FONTSMOOTHINGTYPE=2
FONTSMOOTHINGORIENTATION=1 for LCD-screen, 0 for CRT-screen

Update Chrome to 37.0.2062.94 in Windows 7 64 bit.
Browse to this website: http://cssfontstack.com/ and notice how the Gill
Sans font is displaying incorrectly.

I found a fix! Its stupid, but it works. Chrome is struggling with an
issue IE had awhile back with fonts that are 2-word names. Gill Sans

In your html, you have something like "Gill Sans" you need to add a ' on
either side of it.

"'Gill Sans'" or dependent on your code, if you don't have quotes at all,
you need to add the quotes so its something like font: "Gill Sans"

Works for me, hope it works for you.

Seriously I do not understand how this issue still exists.
Version 40.0.2214.85 beta-m (64-bit) has the issue. Firefox and even that
garbage IE has no issue with this. My financial (corporate) sites are
exhibiting, I hate Foxy Fire and prefer Chrome but alas, I don't control
the corporate sites and thus can't have them change the fonts and I rather
not make a grease monkey script or similar for something you guys ought to
fix (which seems you are refusing to do because the other outstanding issue
of the OS having d/m/y for date format yet you insist on printing the
bizarre m/d/y which causes a lot of headaches here as well. I think if
these two issues don't get corrected I may have to go back to Firefox.

It may be Microsofts problem fundamentally, but every other browser works
around it. You're standing out as the one that does it "properly" which
isn't much help here. Microsoft are unlikely to ever fix this given it's
been this way for so long that everyone considers the broken state as being
correct. You've made the wrong call here.

This problem also exists using MS Office 2007, installed on a Win 7 64 bit
machine, same installation works fine on 32 bit machine - I have a feeling
its a Windows font processing issue more than anything else...

If you read the comments, we all know this is a Windows Font issue - the
problem is every other browser works around it, including Chrome up to a
certain version. Given the age of the issue, Microsoft are unlikely to fix
it as the work arounds are now considered the "correct" way of doing it.
