The Meddling Monk was going to wipe out the Viking invaders, so that King Harold's forces would be fresh for the Battle of Hastings, and thus win it. The Monk's long term plans were to introduce advanced technology to Earth so that Earth would have airplanes by the 14th century, and so that William Shakespeare would be able to see his plays on TV! But wouldn't the Monk's scrambling of Earth's history prevent Shakespeare from ever being born?

The Monk's plans:
Arrival in Northumbria
Position atomic cannon
Sight Vikings
Light beacon fires
Destroy Viking fleet
Norman landing
Battle of Hastings
Meet King Harold.

Points 1 to 3 are ticked on this plan, and the Monk is about to do point 4. If I were the Monk, I would add the following item after "Destroy Viking fleet": Reposition atomic cannon at the Norman landing spot so as to wax the Normans as well, so that King Harold need not fight at all!

The Monk claimed that helping King Harold prevail over his enemies would help humanity. I wonder how the Monk thought humanity would benefit from changing the outcome of the 1066 power struggle in England.

Why did the Monk think that Shakespeare would still be born in his altered timeline? Why didn't the Monk have any plans to use his atomic cannon against the Normans? How did the Monk think humanity would benefit from Haroold being King instead of William?

Why did the Monk think that Shakespeare would still be born in his
altered timeline?
Perhaps Shakespeare's birth could be a fixed point in time.
