Companyweb Error after restore..

Hey,

I just finished doing a restore using the MS KB article below.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829113/en-us

All seemed to go well, except now when trying to reach companyweb I
get..

Unable to connect to database. Check database connection information
and make sure the database server is running.

Could this be a SP issue on WSS? I think I was running SP2 on the old
server.. only SP1 on the new.. any ideas?

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

I understand you could not connect to the companyweb on the SBS server due
to the database is not accessible. If I have misunderstood your issue,
please let me know.

Patrick, please understand that we are sure whether the steps in KB829113
can be applied to your exact scenario. Currently, if you would like to work
more efficiently to solve this issue, we could backup the current
companyweb database, reinstall the companyweb and restore the database
back. Please refer to the following KB 829114.

829114 How to remove and how to install the Windows Small Business Server
2003 SharePoint Services Companyweb Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829114

Following these two KB articles are for your reference:

829112 How to back up and restore http://companyweb data in Windows Small
Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829112

827701 How to perform a disaster recovery operation of SharePoint Services
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827701

============

If you would like to take a close look of this issue, I would like to
collect following information for a further analysis.

1. Just to double confirm, what is the exact SP1 you have installed on the
SBS Server? SharePoint Service SP1 or the SBS 2K3 SP1?
2. Just to double confirm, can you access http://companyweb on the SBS
Server Console? If no, please capture a screen shot for the error message
and send it the Newsgroup.
3. On the SBS Server, run "services.msc" (without quotation marks), check
if the service MSSQL$SHAREPOINT running?
4. On the SBS Server, open a command window, type "osql -E -S
<sbsserver>\SHAREPOINT" (without quotation marks), what is the result?
5. Do you have SQL Server is installed on the SBS server?
6. On the server, run "eventvwr" (without quotation marks), check whether
there are any errors. If yes, double click it, click the Copy button and
paste the full content to the Newsgroup.
7. What is the version of Oledb32.dll file on your Server? you can right
click the file, select Properties, on the Version tab, click File Version
and you will see it.

Please take your time to perform the steps and gather the information for
research. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Hey Brandy,

I Have SBS SP1 with WSS SPS2 (this matches the previous server).

The MSSQL$SHAREPOINT Service is running.

Was able to connect using osql command with "1" appearing and a cursor.

Oledb32.dll is #2.82.1830.0

The error in the evenlog is as follows:
#50070: Unable to connect to the database STS_CRSISERVER01_1 on
CRSISERVER01\SharePoint. Check the database connection information and
make sure that the database server is running.

Tried to uninstall and got the following error:
An error occurred while copying files for the intranet component.

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for posting back and keeping us updated!

I am sorry to hear that you were ill, and hope you are better now!

From your reply, it seems that the Oledb32.dll version is correct. I
understand that you got Event ID 1000 on your SBS Server. Please apply the
steps in KB 840685 if the symptoms are exact the same.

An event ID 1000 error message is logged to the application event log when
you restart Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/840685

by the way, I need to know what component you "tried to uninstall and got
the following error".

Please take your time to perform the steps. If you have any further
updates, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing
from you!

Hey Brandy,

It was trying to uninstall the Intranet component. I was following the
directions from 829114. It seems to have partially uninstalled the
intranet, but it still lists "Remove" as the only option. I get a 403
error trying to reach the intranet now.

Thanks,

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for posting back!

I understand that you suspect you did not fully remove the SharePoint
Services per KB 829114. Please help me to gather following information and
log files to analysis:

1. Did you meet any error message when performing the steps in KB829114? If
yes, at which step did you encounter error message? What is the exact error
message? Please capture a screen shot for it and send to my mailbox.

2. On the server, run "eventvwr" (without quotation marks), check whether
there are any errors. If yes, double click it, click the Copy button and
paste the full content to the Newsgroup.

3. Please help to gather the following log files and send them to my
mailbox:

a. %system drive%\program files\Microsoft Integration\windows small
business server 2003\logs\errorlog.
b. %system drive%\program files\Microsoft Integration\windows small
business server 2003\logs\eventlog.
c. %system drive%\program files\Microsoft Integration\windows small
business server 2003\logs\setup.

4. Please help to gather Windows SharePoint Service (WSS) installation log
based on the following steps:

[Note]: You need to log on the SBS Server as the account used to setup SBS
to gather the WSS installation log. For example, if you used AAA this
account to set up SBS server, then you need to log on Server as AAA to
gather the WSS installation log.

a. Click Start, and then click Run.

b. Type "%temp%" (without quotation marks), and then click OK.

c. In the %temp% folder, look for Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
Setup(0001)_Task(000n).txt.

[Note]: n is number.

Please take your time to perform the steps above and collect the
information for us to troubleshoot your issue. I am looking forward to
hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for posting back!

In the Setup.log, I notice following error information:

Error Message: An error occurred while copying files for the Intranet
component. See C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small
Business Server 2003\Logs\SBSMSI-91140409-7000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9.LOG
for the list of files that were not copied. You may want to run Setup again
and reinstall the component.

Also, in the Eventlog.txt, I notice following error information:

[02/15/06,14:03:23] Intranet: ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : ClientX: DWInstallMSI
for Sharepoint Failed in DoRemove w/ error [1605].
[02/15/06,14:03:23] Intranet: Exiting Install

Due to complicated of the issue, I need to gather more detail information
for further research:

1. Does the error screen shot (error.gif) in your last reply generated at:

a. When trying to remove "Server Tools"?

OR

b. When trying to install "Server Tools"?

2. Please zip all the log files in %system drive%\program files\Microsoft
Integration\windows small business server 2003\logs and send as an
attachment to my mailbox.

Thanks a lot for your time and co-operation!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for posting back!

In the SBSMSI-91140409-7000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9.LOG, I found following
error information:

MSI (c) (B4:F8) [14:14:27:103]: MainEngineThread is returning 1605
=== Verbose logging stopped: 2/15/2006 14:14:27 ===

From your reply, I understand that you cannot uninstall the Server Tools.
In order to get the server tools uninstalled, we need to make the operating
system believe they were never installed. To do so:

Rename the following:

[IMPORTANT]: Please fully backup these registry keys and files:

o Export and then delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer
o C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003
o C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server

We were able to get all the tools installed successfully except for
Intranet. In order to get Intranet installed we performed the above steps
as well as performing the steps outlaid in the following document:

829114 How to remove and how to install the Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829114

By the way, I strongly suggest that you reply back to our Newsgroup so the
other customers who visit our Newsgroup regularly can benefit from your SBS
experience, and learn from your interaction with us.

Please take your time to perform the steps. If you have any updates, please
feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Hey Brandy,

I was able to remove and reinstall Server Tools, particularly the
Intranet component.

I then moved on to:
How to perform a disaster recovery operation of SharePoint Services
Companyweb and SharePoint Services Databases
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827701

I was able to complete the following steps sucessfully...

Restore the Small Business Server 2003 SharePoint Services databases
Remove Small Business Server 2003 SharePoint Services from Companyweb
Extend the Companyweb virtual server to Small Business Server 2003
SharePoint Services

I ran to trouble at:
Configure the Small Business Server 2003 SharePoint Services accounts

I got to 3c in the instructions and got this error..
Unable to connect to database. Check database connection information
and make sure the database server is running. For tips on
troubleshooting this error, search for article 823287 in the Microsoft
Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com.

Using article 823287 I was able to confirm that it was not Method 1 or
2.
In Method 3 I confirmed Application pool identity, but I'm not able to
proceed any further because I do not have Enterprise Manager because
I'm running SBS standard edition.

Any ideas as to the next step?

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for posting back!

I am sorry for the delayed response due to the weekend. Please understand
that the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals
to answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

I understand that you can reinstall the Intranet Component per KB829114.
Actually, on my 9th Feb reply, after you apply KB 829114, please reapply
WSS SP1 and WSS SP2, and test the issue again. KB827701 is just for your
reference.

I suggest that you go through KB829114 again, reapply WSS SP1 and WSS SP2,
and test the issue again.

Please take your time to perform the steps. If you have any further
updates, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing
from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Hey Brandy,

I began following KB829114 and got the same error that it was unable to
remove the Intranet Component of Server Tools and telling me to check
the log for an error.

I tried to following your instructions about the removing the registry
key and two directories to make SBS think it didn't have Server Tools
installed. This time when I loaded Windows Small Business Server from
Add/Remove Programs, it said the component was already removed and then
removed the Windows Small Business Server as an option from Add/Remove
Programs.

I am literally stumped.
