I finished listening to the first installment of Valentina Lisitsa's
new 5/8th complete set of Beethoven's sonatas on Spotify. Very good
sound from her Bösendorfer and exhilerating tempos. The trouble is
that there are so many great recent sets on Spotify that I can't say
that this one stands out. One sonata I have never heard the way I can
imagine it played is the Tempest. I want a real tempest with super
fast tempos and crashing sforzandos. Lisitsa's performance was very
good but too polite to tower over the competition.

Maybe Ludwig didn't intend it to be as tempestous as the Appassionata.

yeah but it's so boring if you've been listening to same old all your life. Performer needs to spice it up.

This is a rather unusual problem: many pianists
can barely reach the pedals, while this one can
barely reach the keyboard! ;-)
