Hi,

Can anyone tell me what "For Mention And To Fix" and "For Application To
Break Fixture" mean in simple terms please?
I've seen them used to describe upcoming court cases, but can't find any
information on them.

Where have you seen these terms?

A "mention" is usually where the parties have agreed a settlement prior to
trial, and they go before the judge to tell him what they have agreed and to
ask for an order or judgment in those terms. An appointment to fix is
usually an appointment before a court clerk (but sometimes before a judge)
to fix a date for trial. An application to break a fixture is where one
party is asking for the trial to be postponed to a later date, perhaps
because important witnesses are not available. For some reason, some of the
courts regard breaking a fixture as equivalent to breaking a valuable
antique vase.

Speaking of wasted money, how's the means testing going?

Vera Baird said on Friday it was going fine, and she was getting reports
from the Courts daily that proved this. There are a few issues, but they
are no more than teething troubles.

That's not how the practitioners working in some of those Courts see it,
though.
