SOB needed

Due to agreeing to race to Frankfurt on one, I am in need of a SOB. It
has to be no more than 200cc and as fast as possible. TOG recommended
an RD200 but I'm looking to spend as little as possible.

Anybody got one, or seen one available in the south?

Love the bike and the wheels. Can even live, just, with the top box. The

Just how many are taking part in this marathon of stupidity?
At the moment three, possibly rising to five. Or more.

Actually a few details may be helpful, when? where? rules? and are 30
year old 250's allowed?

Hopefully sometime soon. Ballistic needs to buy a bike, and I need to
get the Seedy running and MOTed.
Dates could prove the only problem, weekend? Which month? (Sept, Oct or
Nov). I'd need to square work up, sort leave and the like. So could do
with a bit of an idea.

As soon as I've got the Seedy running I'll have a better idea. Probably
a weekend, but not necessarily.

The sooner the better (as it gets colder as the year goes on).

I have two days of holiday left this year. If we do a weekend, I can
just manage it. Also with a day or two tacked on either end. But if the
bike breaks down, blows up, whatever, I'm fucked.

I'm up for it, given work commitments - I've got to go to Amsterdam and
then Cologne in October.

worry about it afterwards. might be an idea to remove the numberplate

I think we'll have a support vehicle.

don't be a fucktard - the SZR is no way allowed into this sort of
thing. I already did a ~2500 mile round trip to Italy (from NI) on it.
It's a fucking perfectly comfortable tourer compared to my CD200...

So is there going to be a minimum age requirement so people can't use

My money would be on them, purely because the older 2 smokes will blow
themselves to bits in short order on a motorway.

One of the guys I used to dispatch with had a CD175 as a backup bike to
drag out when his GT750 was in trouble; the only, and I mean *only*
maintenance it got was brake stuff when required and oil changes; he
never serviced or adjusted a sodding thing, on the basis he bought it
for £25, spent £25 getting it through an MOT, so fuck it.

It had done 66,000 miles the last time I saw it, and was making some
unreal clattering noises from the engine. I asked him what was up with
it, and he said "dunno ... it's only been doing that for the last 10,000
miles, so I don't worry about it"

Ta. I've just noticed that Frankfurt is ~400 miles from Calais.
If we're only going over a weekend, I can't see us spending much
on accomodation. ;-)

There's also *quite* a bit of work to do oon the TS250.

Calais to Frankfurt is the idea.
that's not far off 500 miles - it's truly a really stupid plan.
"I think this situation absolutely requires that a really futile and
stupid gesture be done on somebody's part ...
... and we're just the guys to do it"
The more I think about it, the funnier the idea seems ... best of luck
to all of you ... I was going to suggest seeing how far from Dover
everyone could get before breaking down, but there are CDs involved, so
they'd probably circumnavigate the globe ...
Who is going to run the book?
Not me; I can't afford the payouts if something untoward happens, like
all the 2 smokes *not* blowing up.

Blaney would be 1st choice, but he's competing ...

An endurance race for nutters?
For brainless nutters who have 'great ideas' when drunk ;-)
I was sober.
Is this open to all?
Yeah, you're more than welcome.

Oh, but if anyone who's a cunt asks if they can come, we'll say no.
I may have to speak to TOG about reclaiming my old TS....
It's going to be a right laugh. I can't wait.

Weekend of 7/8/9/10 November would be very good for me, 1st & 2nd OK.
October a bit booked up ATM - although most Tues/Wed/Thurs possible.

it'll be really fucking freezing cold. The "sensible" option would be
to postpone it to next summer...

no, I'd be fine - I've got decent all season biking gear and a wide
selection of polo-neck jumpers.

I was just thinking it'd be more /enjoyable/ in the Summer.

OIC. Do you have to wear a jacket over the top for full effect?
no, never - you're thinking of "arty" rather than "new media", aren't

Heh. The last time I saw *anyone* wear a cravat IRL was a few
years ago at the office where a new contractor had started. He
had on a maroon and white stiped shirt and a red cravat.
It was only once he had stood up from his desk that you could
notice that the rest of his ensemble consisted of safari shorts,
calf-length grey socks and sandals :o/

has to be no more than 200cc and as fast as possible. TOG recommended
an RD200 but I'm looking to spend as little as possible.
Anybody got one, or seen one available in the south?
When are you planning this marathon? I might be up for it.

Well, pretty soon since I've bought this RD200 this evening. I've got
to Tax & MOT it though.
Nice one.

Check the brushes in the dyna-start, they wear quite quickly and let go
all of a sudden stranding you at the roadside. Other than that, the RD200
is quite a reliable little bike. Just run it on reasonable quality semi-
synth 2-stroke oil, and make sure the points are *properly* set up every
3 or 4 thousand miles and it'll happily run for a long time.

Well it's mechanically good but needs a cosmetic 'going over' as it's
been standing for 5 years. How do I get the fir off the cooling fins?
Do I replace the chrome or get it re-chromed?
Use Wonder-Wheels the acid wash for car wheels on the cylinder fins,
seriously. Wash it off well with plain cold water and repaint using
Sperex VHT semi-gloss or satin black paint. ISTR that the edges of the
fins on the barrel were picked out in alloy colour, so just go over the
edges with a bit of emery cloth after painting.

You'll be very lucky to get new mudguards from anywhere now, my daughter
paid a small fortune for the new ones she has on her 1982 RD125 twin and
she had a hell of a job finding them too. If the ones you have aren't
rusted through, and just suffering from a bit of neglect, I'd whip them
into a decent chrome platers and let them give you their opinion on them.

you daft twat.

Anyway, hypothetically speaking, if you had a CD200 in your garage
that hadn't run for over a year, and clearly isn't in the mood to
start, what would you do to get it running, bearing in mind it's a 6V
battery, and you don't have a 6V battery charger....
