The David Byrne I know, formerly of Talking Heads, is alive
and kicking at 67.

I don't know him but there's a long-haired Irish comedian with a very
similar name:

Sorry, it was Bowie. I don't know the difference.

Right, Edd, with two ds.

Starred in "77 Sunset Strip". He parked cars, I think.

Recorded the song with Connie Stevens.

(Dick Clark, too.)

Don't know the other guy.

Turns out he wasn't a Usenet kook.

I've occasionally watched a rerun of one or the other 77 Sunset Strip
episode. I have the jingle in my ear, but don't remember anything else
- names, faces, cars ... Wasn't aware of the song from the subject
line.

Do not they speak false English ... that doth not speak thou to one,
and what ever he be, Father, Mother, King, or Judge, is he not a
Novice, and Unmannerly, and an Ideot, and a Fool, that speaks Your
to one, which is not to be spoken to a singular, but to many?

I agree but feel forced into conformity. What canst
thou do about this so grave an error?

For your next pub quiz: what do "77 Sunset Strip" and "The Addams
Family" have in common?...r

Are you prepared to defend the claim that the adjective "kooky" of
"They're creepy and they're kooky" is the same word as the nickname of
Gerald Kookson, III?

Not at all...what I had in mind was theme songs that prominently
featured paired finger-snaps....r

A prototype of the Thing thing was featured in The Navy Caper, a 1961
episode of 77 Sunset Strip, that showed a toy near the end of the
episode. The Addams Family THING toy came out in 1964.

So if I put up an ad today to sell Kookie's comb along with my red hair, big clown shoes, bulbous nose, and squirty flowers, do I hear any bids?
