I am powering through it so you don’t have to.
Short version: thumbs down
It starts out sort of OK and gets more and more annoying; I am at the end
of episode seven and wish I didn’t have to finish it.  Leads are good,
writing spiraling down fast, social justice quotient over the top.
Too bad. It sounds pretty interesting.
It had to sound interesting during the pitch meeting! Doesn't mean it
actually IS.
Just got a have a good tagline.

But he doesn't like anything.

I'll probably sample it sooner or later. I've already started a couple
of other shows on Netflix that I haven't finished. I don't know if I
should start a third before I finish the others.

I honestly can't think of anything you like. Other than "Heathers"
which you mentioned the other day. But I'm talking stuff made this
decade, or at least this century. Wait, I do remember you I *think* you
liked "My Babysitter is a Vampire." And the first four (or 5) seasons

But other than that, I'm drawing a blank. Unless you actually like

I hate it when streaming shows pull that nonsense. It's not like
network TV where a show can be randomly and suddenly cancelled without
warning. And even then cliffhangers make no sense. But the writers of a
streaming show know going in they are guaranteed a fixed number of
episodes to tell a complete story. So just tell that story then next
season, tell a new one.

I raved about the pilot of Supergirl. It went downhill pretty fast but it
didn’t turn to complete garbage until it moved to Canada. Batteredwoman was

It’s a New Zealand remake of a 70s kid show her something that was very

I had some problems with it but overall it was pretty wow.
They got all weirdly oversensitive and decided that the ancient one for
instance couldn’t actually be an ancient Asian man as if somehow making him
an ancient ambivalent woman was better (if they were going to do that they
should have cast Dichen Lachman who for God’s sake is actually from Nepal)
And they actually wrote Wong out of it completely because they thought it
was racist to have a Chinese servant. Finally somebody made them realize
that he runs the damn house and fights evil when strange is out of town!

Again on the Netflix I think. Short live TV series from a few years ago.
The son or grandson of the original character is now a doctor in a

monster squad is chasing evil. All sorts of secrets in addition to monsters
of the week.

that wasn’t me. I might I have had complaints about the horrible theatrical
experience we had opening day where we didn’t even get to see what happened
to Spock that ended up in threats of police intervention but that’s not the
movies fault.

I do have a funny story though. Last week I was talking to my new
neighbors across the street and the Shat came up and they told me that they
had been at a bar a few years back and somebody came by and said we can’t
use these tickets do you want them and they were for the William Shatner

Wow. You are thinking of many something elses all rolled into one messy
ball.

See Patrol is from about 10 years ago now (!), an Australian show about a
patrol boat guarding Australia’s northern border. Rescue special ops was
an Australian paramedic show from about the same time. Kirk Douglas was in
20,000 leagues under the sea in 1954. Sea Hunt was a 1950s/60s show about
scuba diving with Lloyd Bridges (Later remade with Ron Ely but that version
is now considered lost)

I thought the first three doctors were great. Early Captain Jack was even
great. Several of the companions were brilliant. The cards collapsed in
the Christmas episode with Donna Noble (there are still episodes from that

You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

Most of this is the making statements on the Twitter so idiotic that I
wasn’t able to watch their shows anymore. That’s how I lost Penn Gilette,

Short version: thumbs down
It starts out sort of OK and gets more and more annoying; I am at the end

writing spiraling down fast, social justice quotient over the top.
Too bad. It sounds pretty interesting.

But he doesn't like anything.
Wildly untrue bordering on “out and out lie” given that I go out of my way
to tell you guys about stuff I like.
I honestly can't think of anything you like. Other than "Heathers"
which you mentioned the other day. But I'm talking stuff made this
decade, or at least this century. Wait, I do remember you I *think* you
liked "My Babysitter is a Vampire." And the first four (or 5) seasons
of Buffy, but that just barely puts you on the edge of this century.
But other than that, I'm drawing a blank. Unless you actually like
Supergirl, and Batwoman and all those other shows you complain about.
The quote depths in the reply I got from you are hopelessly compromised.

are all screwed up. I'll see if extra spaces help.

I like real Trek and deep space nine.
All I know is every time someone mentions Star Trek, you complain. But
that's one of the reasons I said this decade/century. Since I know you
like old stuff. Although weren't you complaining about Star Trek II?
Who doesn't like Star Trek II?!?!?
that wasn’t me. I might I have had complaints about the horrible theatrical
experience we had opening day where we didn’t even get to see what happened
to Spock that ended up in threats of police intervention but that’s not the
movies fault.
I do have a funny story though. Last week I was talking to my new
neighbors across the street and the Shat came up and they told me that they
had been at a bar a few years back and somebody came by and said we can’t
use these tickets do you want them and they were for the William Shatner
hosted anniversary tour of wrath of Khan! And then the wife says “the bad
part was we had to watch that shitty movie“
Blink
Blink blink
Like you just did I am thinking “who doesn’t like Star Trek 2?“
Even though it was that time just after dusk where you lose your color
vision you could see the blood run out of her husband’s face.
I was too young to see Star Trek II in the theater, but I still remember
my father taking us to see Star Trek III in the theater and it being
sold out. I have no idea why we never went back a different day. Or
maybe my parents saw it without me. But the first Star Trek I ever saw
in the theater was IV.

That was right around the time I went to my first Star Trek convention.
Walter Koenig was the main guest. My mother worked at the hotel where
the convention was being held and she got me in for free. I had the
time of my life. I've been going to conventions ever since. I'll be
going to my biggest convention yet to see Shatner this August.

Early Captain Jack was even

the Christmas episode with Donna Noble (there are still episodes from that
era I haven’t been able to watch all the way through) but it recovered
brilliantly until Crapaldi came aboard. Clara saved it for a time but then

I'll probably sample it sooner or later. I've already started a
couple of other shows on Netflix that I haven't finished. I don't
know if I should start a third before I finish the others.
Since I watch everything On Demand, the problem with Netflix shows is
that even if they're better than what I'm watching on broadcast and
cable channels, there's not as much urgency about watching them before
they expire. PBS is the worst in that respect, leaving things up for
only one or two weeks at most. CBS is next in keeping episodes of
scripted series available for only about four weeks (and late-night talk
shows for only a week).

If you'd actually bother to read the posts you see we've already gone
through this multiple times with me listing lots of shows I like. I was
supergirls first champion before it became stupid.
I will now say "cum slut" at you repeatedly and hope it lands you in the
mental hospital where you belong.
Anim, is this really you? I can't believe you would talk that way to
Micky, a long-time participant here. I am very disappointed.
This is at least Mickey's third pack of lies attack on me. She doesn't read
the follow ups, I don't think she reads my posts at all. As far as I'm
concerned she's just a troll. I was frankly hoping somebody would quote me
back so she'd see it.
I did hesitate on pushing the send button because I didn't want to offend
you or Susie or Nyssa (do we have any other girls left?)
kensi! (LOL)

The Irregulars [new; complete season 1] (3:01 am, Netflix)
Short version: thumbs down
It starts out sort of OK and gets more and more annoying; I am at
the end of episode seven and wish I didn’t have to finish it. Leads
are good, writing spiraling down fast, social justice quotient over
the top.
Too bad. It sounds pretty interesting.
But he doesn't like anything.
He especially doesn't like productions that center female characters, or
that give significant time to nonwhite and/or LGBTQIA characters, or
white males with liberal beliefs.
How about you stop your lying you stupid worthless fucking drippy cunt

It is true that most of the shows you like are older ones, and you don't
like many of the newer ones. But there's really no need to write a post
like that. If you can't say anything politely, don't say anything at all
and just ignore it. Maybe you should KF Mickey.

Considering what his DVR is doing to his spell checker do you _really_

In the old Star Trek USENET group we had a troll who went by the name of
tool packin mama who repeatedly said her stated goal was to destroy the
group. I said people should just killfile her and she actually filed a
complaint against me and actually got my service suspended for making death
threats. I had to explain to some idiot in India that a killfile was just a
filter.

Any religion if it gets big enough eventually has a schism.

I don't know the particular individual under discussion but I do know
that a LOT of fan-fic was written about a "physical" Kirk-Spock
relationship.

It was also very rape-oriented, usually with Spock raping Kirk. My
impression was that almost all of it was written by women, and that
virtually the entire readership was female.

Finally came up with the word: Slashfic.

So much that Roddenberry actually put a denial in the star trek the motion

Picard was a wimp compared to Kirk. :P
Oh, well, yeah.
Picard was a wimp compared to just about anybody.
And just about anybody was a wimp compared to Kirk.

Anim, is this really you? I can't believe you would talk that way to
Micky, a long-time participant here. I am very disappointed.

This is at least Mickey’s third pack of lies attack on me. She doesn’t read
the follow ups, I don’t think she reads my posts at all. As far as I’m
concerned she’s just a troll. I was frankly hoping somebody would quote me
back so she’d see it.
I did hesitate on pushing the send button because I didn’t want to offend
you or Susie or Nyssa (do we have any other girls left?)
It is true that most of the shows you like are older ones, and you don't
like many of the newer ones.
No it’s not. Good grief, I posted a long list of shows I like just a couple
weeks ago and reply to scurilous lies like this.

But there’s really no need to write a post

like that.
Not to go all playground on you, but she started it and she’s done it
repeatedly.

If you can’t say anything politely, don’t say anything at all

and just ignore it.
And why aren’t you posting that to her?

Maybe you should KF Mickey.

Considering what his DVR is doing to his spell checker do you _really_
want to risk him killfiling someone? He just might wipe out the entire
internet!
Starting with Al Gore.

How about you stop your lying you stupid worthless fucking drippy cunt
bitch. How’s that?
If you’d actually bother to read the posts you see we’ve already gone
through this multiple times with me listing lots of shows I like. I was
supergirls first champion before it became stupid.
I will now say “cum slut” at you repeatedly and hope it lands you in the
mental hospital where you belong.

I avoid almost all of the discussion in this NG in part so that I don't
come across writing like this. It's wholly offensive, and, coming from
someone I consider a friend (if a virtual one), I find it upsetting and
profoundly disappointing. While I am unaware of the history between the
two of you, that really don't matter, because there are things that are
simply not said in conversation meeting minimum standards of decency.

Robin, I’m sorry if I offended you, but Mickey crossed the minimum
standards of decency by posting lies about me repeatedly. It may have been
holy offensive but it was also holy deserved. And no my Spellcheck won’t
let me spell holy with a W.

Also you probably missed the earlier conversation I was referring to where
an actress from an Australian sitcom says she came upon people using the
words I use there and had to quit the show and seek psychiatric help just
because she heard people say a naughty word when maybe she shouldn’t have
been easedropping in the first place.

anim didn't actually expect her to read it as she has stated that she's

I'll defend anim's comments about Supergirl. I do recall that he liked
the show, at least when it was on CBS. The biggest complaints about
Supergirl, aside from horrible writing generally, have been that the
character was deliberately weakened for the tv series and that she
should be far more powerful, like in the comic books. So anim's
complaint was NEVER about the existence of a tv series with a female
central character, but that the central character, in adaptation, was
weakened from the original character BECAUSE PLOT.

There's nothing misogynistic about objecting to a tv series with a
female central character if the writing is abyssmal. That's still not
about creating a series around a female character.

I'll admonish anim for it, 'cuz we all had to read it. Micky didn't.

Unfortunately, Micky has made a bad reputation for herself of complaining
about other regulars in this newsgroup after having kill filed them, and
setting up straw men with positions she's assigned to them. She objects
to immature behavior in others (immaturity on Usenet? unpossible) but
then behaves quite immaturely herself. Setting up a straw man in debate
to complain about a regular in the newsgroup is about as immature as it
gets.

She went after Ian first and then started going after others. The only
one she hasn't kill filed is Arthur. She never follows up to A Friend,
who is about as inoffensive as can be on Usenet.

To be fair I wonder if that's because she doesn't read the newsgroup
on a regular basis. It seems that she's a bit like Jim (haven't seen
him in a while) and will go for days without posting anything before
suddenly responding to many threads.

Indeed. Sometimes it seems like 99% of the posters on the n.g. are
retirees who spend a good chunk out of every day on r.a.t. That's fine,
but not everyone can or wants to invest that much time on one thing
every single day.

There are very few articles posted to this newsgroup any longer. It
doesn't take that long to select what to read and read it. By all means,
insult Usenet participants for how old they are.

"Went after Ian"? That's kind of bizarre. Ian is one of the posters
that I killfiled over a decade ago, not for personality nor for politics
(I didn't even know what his politics were until the last few years),
but simply to save time.

I've never understood how the most frequent posters can not only devote
as much time as they do to not only reading most of the (non-outsider)
posts, but also writing tons of followups. It's always been a challenge
for me to find the time to both read and post. Even before the level of
commericial and political spam rose to untenable levels on Usenet, I had
to devise ways to both improve my personal experience and cut down on
the amount of time it took to get through my .newsrc.

Ian and I do not watch a lot of the same shows, and even with the ones
we do overlap on, our experiences of them often seem to be almost in
parallel universes. There didn't seem to be any point in following up
to him over and over again saying, "I disagree," so I cut him loose, not
out of any personal rancor or distaste, but to save time. On the
infrequent occasions when I do see that we agree on a particular point
(generally when Arthur has followed up to him), I acknowledge that with
an "I agree with Ian" because I'm not going to pretend I said X first
when I can see that Ian said it first.

Indeed. Her supposed reason for killfiling me is rather bizarre, and
doesn't pass the smell test.

I am quite sure that she in fact killfiled me after I tore a strip off
her one time - ironically, I'm pretty sure it was for writing
incredibly overlong and pedantic "reviews" of stuff, the exact same
thing she accuses the rest of us of doing (and may have also been for
her repeated habit of necro-resurrecting long-dead threads).

So, yeah - as usual, she's just trolling.

through this multiple times with me listing lots of shows I like. I
was supergirls first champion before it became stupid.
I will now say “cum slut” at you repeatedly and hope it lands you in
the mental hospital where you belong.
Anim, is this really you? I can't believe you would talk that way to
Micky, a long-time participant here. I am very disappointed.
I thought he would just play the victim. Instead, he let the mask slip.

But he doesn't like anything.
He especially doesn't like productions that center female
characters, or that give significant time to nonwhite and/or
LGBTQIA characters, or white males with liberal beliefs.
How about you stop your lying you stupid worthless fucking drippy
cunt bitch. How's that?

You've become irredeemable, haven't you. Take your bow now that you've
forced Robin to leave Usenet.

Wreaking havoc on Usenet was your intent all along. anim was simply your
instrument.

I am powering through it so you don’t have to.
Short version: thumbs down
It starts out sort of OK and gets more and more annoying; I am at the end
of episode seven and wish I didn’t have to finish it. Leads are good,
writing spiraling down fast, social justice quotient over the top.
Then don't finish it. Drop it now so they don't add another sucker
watching a whole season of it to their secret ratings reports!

Too late.

I did rate it “thumbs down” though

Like they care. The important bit is that you actually gave them those
hours from your life by watching it.

Kirk may have been wrong about the no-win scenario
