Like his first wife's brother,the 6th Duke of Westminster(1951-2016),
the 10th Duke of Roxburghe, born November 18th 1954,has died rather young.
He was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2009 so this was not as
sudden as his ex-brother-in-law's heart attack.

I became aware of him at the time of his engagement in the 1970s but
he had already succeeded to the title, being Britain's youngest duke
(royals aside) from 1974 to 1995.

His eldest son,born 1981,succeeds (though his cousin,born 1991,
beat him to the youngest-duke distinction).

The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again,
at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.

Oddly enough, this is the first time someone who was not a teenager
has succeeded as Duke of Roxburghe since 1879.

And since he was born after February 6th 1952
(unlike His Grace of Westminster) it strikes me that I should
add him to the roster of those whose passing I have marked for
twenty years now, having achieved notoriety in the realms of,
during lifespans entirely within the reign of,Queen Elizabeth II.
The most recent person I so noted was Sir Charles Farr...
I did consider adding Ian Gibbons as he had managed to
live to 67 while being born in the current reign.

The first Duke born in the current reign to die was however
the brother of the present Duke of Northumberland...

...that Duke was born in 1953 (the year before His Grace of Roxburghe)
and the accession of his brother (born 1956) was the occasion on
which the youngest-duke mantle changed hands.
